• Is there a need / desire for a provincial website that highlights credible healthy eating and active living (HEAL) information and resources FOR TEACHERS?
• What is teacher access to internet?• What are common barriers in accessing resources
for teachers?• What resources are needed/wanted?• What is the best way to get HEAL information to
teachers?

• Canada’s Food Guide
• Alberta Education related resources
• Multiple sources including google searches and school-generated resources

Current Internet Access
• Only 2% of teachers reported NO access to internet
• Over 80% had a combination high/low speed access from home and school
• No one reported only dial-up access

Current Internet Usage• 74% of teachers use the internet to prepare
lesson plans weekly or daily
• 3% never use the internet for lesson plans
• 6% never use the internet for HEAL info or resources
• 60% are satisfied with the information they access

• 2% said they were not interested in a website
• Most respondents indicated multiple answers to support: health outcomes for nutrition and active living, DPA supports, cross-curricular outcomes for HEAL

• 40% of respondents had been teaching over 15 years

• 46% of teachers surveyed taught elementary grades

Subjects taught?
• 22% did not teach any HEAL related subjects
• All others taught one or a combination of: DPA, CALM, PE, Food Studies, Health and Life Skills
