Hydro excavation is a safe, non-destructive form of excavation that lends accessibility and a small "footprint" to the tower industry. Speed up cumbersome hand digs and save grounding cables so that they can be re-used.

in relation to foundation modification and guy rod corrosion inspection

Backhoes, trenching machines, or augers.

As fewer new towers are being built , existing towers are having foundations modified to handle increased capacity.

Is the process of excavation by means of using pressurized air or water to safely break up soil and removing it by means of an high air flow vacuum.

Slot trenching is used to “clear” an area so that other mechanical equipment can then be utilized safely.

This truck has the capability of digging with either air or water. It is perfect for guy rod corrosion inspection and cathodic protection installation.

1. Safe and non-nondestructive.

2. Faster than hand digging.3. Congested areas are

easily accessible.4. Small “footprint.”

1. Hard ground and rock can lead to cost over runs. Don’t “turn your back on a job” if ground conditions are difficult,

communicate with the vendor.

2. Once soil is removed it is unusable. Account for backfill in your bid if necessary.

3. Truck mounted rigs are heavy and rain/soft soil can create unstable conditions.

Be prepared to go “remote” if weather works against the job (warning…remote means more expensive).

4. Trucks are loud. If you are in a noise sensitive are be sure to get a permit.

Hydro excavation means …MUD!

1. Is your vacuum equipment truck mounted or trailer mounted?

If it is trailer mounted quiz them on the time line to complete the scope.

2. If it is truck mounted… what size blower do you have (5000 CFM positive displacement blower).

The bigger the blower the faster the job should be completed

3. Do they provide civil services? They may be able to handle the concrete work as well.

1. Keep in mind that hourly pricing can be misleading depending on the type of equipment being provided. Know your volume and discuss a time line.

2. If possible, DUMP ON SITE! Hydro excavation companies bill portal to portal and dump

fees can be high.

3. Know where (and assist if possible) in vendor finding the closest possible water fill and dump site available.

Mud can usually spread out and will dry quickly if you have a skid steer or a tractor on site.

T-Rex to provide one Hydro Excavation truck and 2 man crew. Working through complete project without interruptions. 10-hour workdays. Additional work and standby not caused by T-Rex or bad weather will be

billed according to 2010 price schedule. If soil contaminants are discovered then additional handling and

disposal requirements may apply according to the 2010 price schedule or on a cost plus 15% basis.

Work that requires any type of air respirators will result in additional charges for equipment and compensation for additional time.

If excessive groundwater is encountered, client will have the option of having T-Rex skip over the area, or direct T-Rex to continue excavation according to 2010 price schedule.

Pre removal by client of concrete, asphalt, lime, or any other types of road base or stabilized materials. If obstructions are encountered, the client will have the option of having T-Rex skip over the obstructions, or direct T-Rex to continue excavation according to 2010 price schedule.

1. To safelyexcavate around existing utilities.

2. Non-destructive (ground wiring can be saved and re-used).

3. Accessibility….areas that are congested can be easily reached.
