Australia is experiencing significant demographic change. We are living longer and experiencing our largest baby boom. The world growth rate is 1.0%, Australia at 1.8% and the over 65s are growing at an even faster rate. In 2044, Australia's population pyramid will become inverted for the first time with the number of over 60s outnumbering the under 18s for the first time. Our median age is increasing, we are living longer than ever before. The demand for aged care is increasing. And the sector will be facing great supply challenges - with the median age of someone in the aged care sector the highest of any sector. The sector will be facing mass retirements and need to attract and recruit significant numbers of new workers to keep the current ratio of workers to over 85s.
