In 2013, Pope Francis issued his apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium in which he discussed the New Evangelization. The New Evangelization isn’t new in the sense that the Gospel or teachings of Jesus Christ have changed or it’s throwing out the old and bringing in the new. Rather, the New Evangelization is a new way of preaching, sharing, and transmitting the same Gospel and teachings in a refreshed and revived manner. The New Evangelizations invites all the Baptized (you and me) to deepen our faith, believe in the Gospel message, and go out to proclaim of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The New Evangelization is an invitation for all Catholics to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
In this papal document, Pope Francis writes:
In virtue of their baptism, all the members of the People of God have become missionary disciples (cf. Mt 28:19). All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients. The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized. Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love. Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are “disciples” and “missionaries”, but rather that we are always “missionary disciples”. If we are not convinced, let us look at those first disciples, who, immediately after encountering the gaze of Jesus, went forth to proclaim him joyfully: “We have found the Messiah!” (Jn 1:41). The Samaritan woman became a missionary immediately after speaking with Jesus and many Samaritans come to believe in him “because of the woman’s testimony” (Jn 4:39). So too, Saint Paul, after his encounter with Jesus Christ, “immediately proclaimed Jesus” (Acts 9:20; cf. 22:6-21). So what are we waiting for?
In the Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus calls Andrew, Peter, James, and John to follow him. These men were not doctors in theology and not even rabbis. They were fisherman. They were simple and humble men, often disregarded by society. The Call of the Apostles should remind us that Jesus also has called all of us to follow Him. What is important to remember is that Jesus does not call the qualified, instead, He quali-fies those He calls. The mission of our parish is not just the work of the pastor nor the work of a selected few. The mission of the parish requires all of us to get up and follow Jesus to share the Good News. So what are YOU waiting for?

uno de los bautizados. Todo cristiano tiene el desafío, aquí y ahora, de participar activamente en la evangelización;
Eran pescadores. Eran hombres simples y humildes, a menudo
¿Entonces,
Qué esperas?

The red Sanctuary Lamp above the Tabernacle burns to remind us of the sacramental presence of Jesus Christ. If you wish to have the Sanctuary Candle burning in memory of a loved one, to honor a special occasion, or a special intention, you can make arrangements with the Parish Office. The cost of the candle is $20 and it burns for one week. A notice of your intention will be posted in the bulletin.

Gospel Differences Question: Why do the Gospels differ in their details? I was surprised to learn that not all of the Gospels tell the same stories, for example, the Nativity. Doesn’t this take away from their credibility? Answer: Take any event that happens, from family trips to national politics and ask two or three different people to explain what happened. You will get a different version of the same story. People tend to tell the story from their perspective, and past experience shades what we recall and how we recall it. Our choice of words and what details we leave in or out is also influenced by the audience who is listening to our tales. The Gospel writers are no different. Each one tells the story of Jesus from their own perspective. Versions differ in some details, not because one is true and the other is not, but because each Gospel writer, or Evangelist, has a different theological point to communicate as well as a different audience for whom he is writing. He picks and chooses the details of his Gospel based on what message he is preaching, what his audience may already know, and what message they need to hear. The various details of the Gospels point more to their authenticity as a record of the church’s experience and understanding of Jesus. In a good study Bible, the background notes for each Gospel contain a lot of information that helps us better understand each Evangelist and his message. ©LPi
