Why did I say yes to the adventure? ● It was always a dream of mine...but I was scared!● I <3 Traveling● Needed to get out of comfort zone and experience new

cultures● My friends were doing it too

How did I make it happen?● Planned ahead!● Chose location● $$$

○ Saved, saved, saved○ Scholarships and grants○ Extra loans

● Pre-departure classes

So I got on a plane...then what?● Lived in apartments in downtown Dublin● Classes-Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design, &

Technology○ Loras professor and Irish professor○ The education system was an experience

● Internship-Dublin City University Language Services Office

But the best part was traveling!● Traveled to 9 countries

○ So easy○ Ireland, Northern Ireland, England,

Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, The Netherlands (twice!)

● This taught me the most○ How to travel (booking flights,

hostels, tours, transportation)○ Independence○ Problem solving○ Overcoming language barriers○ Being an aware traveler ○ A LOT OF HISTORY! ○ Interacting with different groups of people

The Highlights

Why I think you should do this?● Get out of your comfort zone--expand your horizons!● The world is so big--so much to learn!● Yes, it is expensive...but you won’t be able to do it as

cheap as you can in college again● Looks good on a resume/grad school applications● So many options (service trips, J-term/May-term, summer)● It’s an unforgettable experience● AND SO MUCH FUN!
