Ever get the feeling that it never just rains, it pours?Whether you’re a believer in climate
change or not, evidence suggests intense rainfall events around New Zealand look
set to continue.
In dealing with rainfall events like this it’s critical the right stormwater plans and infrastructure (drains, pipes, catchment
areas) are in place.

Please remember that we’ll need your feedback
by Friday 11th July. Once we’ve collated all the
information we’ll then provide you with an update based on the information we receive. This will be done via Council’s website.
All going to plan our intention is to have the Comprehensive Stormwater Consent in place
by the end of the year.
While the Council team has a good ‘handle’ on the
day-to-day management of stormwater across the District it’s important we
check in with you to ensure we identify any issues that may need to be included
in our plans.

While we’ve got your attention…
We thought it timely to provide some quick tips to help us
keep the stormwater system running smoothly.
Never put anything into a storm drain
Direct downpipes away from paved surfaces and/or use a rain tank
Vegetate bare ground with native plants
Use pesticides and fertilisers sparingly
Properly dispose of hazardous house-hold waste

How you can help us deal with the downpours
Over the next few months we’ll be updating information about stormwater in the Western Bay of Plenty District’s ‘central catchment’.
We need to update this information to get what’s officially known as a ‘Comprehensive Stormwater
Consent’ or CSC from Bay of Plenty Regional Council. We would like your feedback on our
Catchment Management Plan (CMP) and CSC Application.
The central catchment includes the urban areas of Minden and Te Puna only
(CSC was granted for Omokoroa in 2005).
By having this consent Western Bay of Plenty District Council can
get on with stormwater work required in the central catchment.
We can also work with you to improve
water quality and protect local waterways by
reducing any potential household stormwater
pollution.
