Pop starts have an identity or persona which is not restricted solely to their musicianship. A true pop star has a lasting significance and has 'brand awareness' amongst a wider market over time.
A stars image can be used in many different forms of media. Stars tend to use their image for advertisement purposes.
Stars are made to appeal to audiences, which will in turn make money for record companies. Record companies tend to mould their stars.
Stars represent shared cultural values and attitudes and will promote a certain ideology. Audience interest in these values enhance their star quality.
Stars provide audiences with a visual of 'what people should be like'. They may support conforming to it (being thin and beautiful) or difference (being overweigh and there being nothing wrong with that.
A pop stars persona needs constantly nurturing, they have to adapt and change overtime.
Star image motifs are a running theme for an artist. The aim is to establish the artists brand. This could be icons, images and fonts.
