The MiG-21 was one of a long list of Mikoyan-Gurevich products to be integrated into the armed forces of the Soviet Union, the Warsaw Pact, and allied client states. Its predecessors included such notable types as the MiG-15, MiG-17 and the supersonic MiG-19.
The roots of this project reach back to the first half of the fifties. In 1954, the Ye-1 project came to an end, and was quickly picked up by the Ye-2. Both had a swept wing. The first machine to feature the delta wing was the Ye-4, which first took to the air on June 16th, 1955. It was also demonstrated a year later at the Moscow airfield Tushino.
The first of the new line to enter production was the MiG-21F, which together with the MiG-21P and F-13 represented the first generation of the MiG-21, and was in production through the end of the fifties and the beginning of the sixties. Subsequent versions included the PF, FL, PFM, R, S, N and PD, the production of which peaked at the end of the sixties. The third generation started production in 1968, which included such versions as M, SM, MF, SMT, bis among others.
Simultaneously, two-seat training versions were also produced designated MiG-21U, UM and US. Production of the MiG-21 ended in 1985, and was put into service with some fifty nations.
Over the course of the cold war, the opponents of the MiG-21 included the likes of the Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter and the Dassault Mirage III. NATO assigned it the reporting name ‘Fishbed’. It became the most produced supersonic fighter in terms of quantity. The new machines came off Soviet production lines in Moscow, Gorky and Tbilisi. The MiG-21F-13 was also built under license in Czechoslovakia and the MiG-21FL, M and bis in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. The Soviet Union produced 10, 645 examples of all versions, 194 were built in Czechoslovakia and 657 in India. Outside of the Soviet Union, the type flew with a long list of nations on all continents with the exception of Australia. The MiG-21 participated in combat in Vietnam, the Indo-Pakistan wars, the Cuban participation in Angola and in the Arab world’s attempt to eliminate Israel. Thanks to the high volume of use, the highest number of aces produced on the type was in Vietnam. The top of the ladder is occupied by Nguyen Van Coc with nine kills.
The type serving as a fighter-bomber served with the Soviet Union and other nations of the Warsaw Pact into the eighties, when it began to be displaced by the MiG-29 Fulcrum.
This kit allows you to build foremost a model of the MiG-21MF. This is an export version of the SM where the ‘M’ signifies ‘modernizovaniy’ and the ‘F’ ‘forsirovannyi’ – or ‘modernized with afterburning’. In factory documentation, the type is identified as Izdelye 96F. It was powered by the Tumansky R-13-300 with afterburning and carried the Sapfir-21/RP-22 radar. The armament was composed of the GS-23-2L 23mm cannon with 200 rounds. The underwing pylons could carry a combination of FAB bombs up to 500kg in size, UB-16-57 rocket pods, and R-3S, Ch-66, S-24 missiles, as well as R-60 air-to-air missile, including the R-60M. NATO assigned the MiG-21MF the codename ‘Fishbed J’.
MiG-21 byl další konstrukcí kanceláøe Mikojan-Gurjeviè, která se zaøadila do výzbroje Sovìtského svazu, zemí Varšavské smlouvy a dalších ozbrojených sil. Jeho pøedchùdci byly tak významné typy jako MiG-15, MiG-17 èi nadzvukový MiG-19.
Koøeny vývoje letounu sahají do první poloviny 50. let minulého století. V roce 1954 byl dokonèen projekt Je-1, velmi rychle nahrazený druhým prototypem Je-2. Oba mìly šípové køídlo. Prvním strojem s delta køídlem byl prototyp Je-4, který se do vzduchu dostal poprvé 16. èervna 1955. Pøedstavil se také na letecké pøehlídce, která se konala o rok pozdìji na moskevském letišti Tušino.
Jako první se do sériové výroby dostala verze MiG-21F, která spoleènì s MiG-21P a MiG-21F-13 reprezentovala první generaci tohoto typu, vyrábìnou na pøelomu 50. a 60. let minulého století. Následovaly další, pokroèilejší verze – PF, FL, PFM, R, S, N a PD, jejichž produkce vyvrcholila ve druhé polovinì 60. let. Od roku 1968 probíhala výroba tøetí generace, která zahrnovala napøíklad verze M, SM, MF, SMT, bis a další.
Soubìžnì se stavìly také dvoumístné cvièné jednadvacítky MiG-21U, UM a US.Výroba MiGù-21 skonèila v roce 1985 a do výzbroje je zaøadilo okolo 50 zemí svìta.MiG-21 mìl bìhem studené války své protìjšky v typech Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter èi Dassault Mirage III. Vojska NATO dalo typu
kódové oznaèení Fishbed. Stal se v nejvìtších poètech vyrábìným nadzvukovým letounem. Nové stroje v Sovìtském svazu sjíždìly z továrních linek v Moskvì, Gorkém a Tbilisi. V licenci se stavìla verze MiG-21F-13 v Èeskoslovensku a MiG-21FL, M a bis v Indii u Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. V Sovìtském svazu vzniklo 10 645 exempláøù všech verzí, v Èeskoslovensku 194 kusù a v Indii 657 strojù.
Kromì ozbrojených sil Sovìtského svazu létal s øadì zemí, s výjimkou Austrálie na všech kontinentech. Zúèastnil se øady váleèných konfliktù, vèetnì války ve Vietnamu, indicko-pákistánských potyèek, kubánského tažení v Angole èi arabské snahy o znièení Izraele. Díky nejvìtšímu zapojení do bojových akcí se nejvìtší poèet stíhacích es zrodil ve Vietnamu. Na èele žebøíèku stojí Nguyen Van Coc s devíti sestøely.
V roli pøepadového stíhacího letounu sloužily MiGy-21 v Sovìtském svazu a dalších zemích Varšavské smlouvy až do 80. let, kdy jej jako plnohodnotná náhrada zaèaly z prvoliniové služby vytlaèovat nové MiGy-29 Fulcrum.
Z této stavebnice si mùžete postavit zejména modely letounù MiG-21MF. Jde o exportní variantu verze SM, kde písmeno „M” znamená „modìrnizirovanyj” a písmeno „F” pak „forsirovannyj” – tedy modernizovaný s pøídavným spalováním. V tovární dokumentaci figuruje pod oznaèením Izdìlje 96F. Pohánìl ji motor Tumanskij R-13-300 s pøídavným spalováním a nesl radar Safir-21/RP-22. Výzbroj tvoøil kanon GŠ-23-2L ráže 23 mm se zásobou 200 ran. Na závìsníky bylo možné podvìsit kombinaci pum FAB až do ráže 500 kg, raketnic UB-16-57U a raket R-3S, Ch-66, S-24, vèenì rakety vzduch-vzduch R-60 a její infraèervenì navádìné varianty R-60M.

A Machine No.7628 represents the appearance of Egyptian military aircraft that are known through to the present day. The black outlined bright orange fields appeared on Egyptian aircraft at the end of the seventies, not only on the MiG-21, but also other fighters such as the MiG-19, F-4 Phantom and the Mirage. The reason for this was closer American ties and visual recognition of friendly aircraft in combat over those of Libya.

Letoun è. 7628 reprezentuje vzhled egyptských vojenských letadel, který je znám i ze souèasnosti. Výrazné oranžové, èernì lemované doplòky se na egyptských letounech objevily na konci 70. let minulého století a kromì MiGù-21 je nosily i další stíhaèky, napø. MiGy-19, F-4 Phantom èi Mirage. Dùvodem bylo politické sblížení s U.S.A. a vizuální zvýraznìní vlastních letadel v bojích s letouny Libye.

This aircraft had the serial number 969712, and was built in 1974, and subsequently delivered to Czechoslovakia. It served with the 4th Fighter Squadron at Pardubice till May, 1989, at which time it was transferred to the 9th Fighter Squadron. Here, it flew with the Bechyne coat of arms on the left side of the nose. After the Velvet Divorce, this aircraft was assigned to the Slovak Air Force, and is currently in the collection of the air museum at Trencin. The aircraft carries a camouflage scheme as originally delivered from the Soviet Union.

V rámci rozdìlení Èeskoslovenska se tento MiG stal souèástí leteckých sil Slovenska a nyní je k vidìní v leteckém muzeu v TrenèínìLetoun nese kamufláž, která odpovídá pùvodnímu zbarvení, ve kterém byl stroj dodán ze Sovìtského svazu.
C This unique camouflage scheme came about in July 1997, when 31st AFB personnel applied it to the aircraft serialed 967713, and subsequently dubbed it ‘Milka’ for its resemblance to the coloring of a cow. The aircraft flew into August, 2000, and was scrapped at Prelouc in 2010. The individual shades on this scheme were derived by mixing black and white paints available to the general public, and as such, these were not any military standard paints. The left front carried the 4th Flight emblem, the right carried the marking of the 31st AFB Sliac. The aircraft was flown by LtCol. Zsoldos, and the crewchief was Capt. Krucina.

Unikátní kamufláž tohoto letounu vznikla v èervenci 1997, kdy pøíslušníci 31. letecké základny Sliaè dali stroji výr. èíslo 967713 unikátní zbarvení, pro které se pozdìji díky podobnosti se zbarvením krav vžilo oznaèení „Milka“. Stroj létal až do srpna 2000, v roce 2010 byl v Pøelouèi šesrotován.Jednotlivé odstíny vznikly smícháním bílé a èerné barvy, dostupné v bìžných obchodech, nejedná se tedy o použití oficiálnì schválených kamuflážních barev. Na levé stranì pøídì najdete znak 4. letky, na pravé pak znak 31. letecké základny Sliaè a slovenského armádního letectva. Na stroji létal pplk. Zsoldos, velitelem pozemního personálu byl kpt. Krucina.
D At the turn of this century, Poland began to reequip its air force. The Polish Air Force went from Soviet, and later Russian, equipment to flying the American Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon. One of the aircraft that was at the time nearing the end of its service life was MiG-21 ‘7809’, serving with the 10th ELT (tactical air force flight). Between 2001 and 2003, this unit was based at Lask.

Na poèátku tohoto tisíciletí zaèalo v Polsku pøezbrojení stíhacího letectva. Z typù sovìtské, potažmo ruské provenience pøesedlali polští letci na americké Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon. Jedním z MiGù-21, kterým se jejich kariéra chýlila ke konci, byl také 7809, sloužící u 10. ELT (letky taktického letectva). Tato jednotka sídlila v letech 2001 až 2003 na základnì Lask.
E This aircraft, adorned with a sharkmouth and eyes, served with the 812th Training Squadron, operating within the structure of the Kharkov higher training facility. This was one of the aircraft that were displayed for the leadership during the open house on August 18th, 1991.

Žraloèí tlamou a okem vyzdobený stroj létal u 812. cvièného leteckého pluku, zaøazeného v organizaèní struktuøe Charkovského vyššího vojenského uèilištì. Byl jedním ze strojù, které byly pøedvedeny veøejnosti bìhem dne otevøených dveøí dne 18. srpna 1991.
F Red ‘687’ was assigned to JG-3 based at Preschen near the town of Forst through the eighties and into the nineties. At that time, this unit operated the MiG-21MF as well as the MiG-29, and pilots also had the MiG-21UM and MiG-29UB training versions at their disposal. This unit served in the air force of the German Democratic Republic, which was the former communist East Germany. The JG-3 was graced with the name ‘Wladimir Komarow’, in honor of the Soviet Cosmonaut who died in April, 1964, while landing in the Soyuz I capsule. This aircraft is in the collection of the Deutches Museum Flugwerft in Oberschleissheim.

Letoun „èervená 687“ patøil na sklonku 80. let a poèátku 90. let minulého století do stavu JG-3, diskolované na základnì Preschen poblíž mìsta Forst. V té dobì jednotka létala s MiGy-21 MF a MiGy-29, piloti mìli k dispozici také dvoumístné cvièné MiGy-21 UM a MiGy-29 UB. Tato jednotka patøila do letectva Nìmecké demokratické republiky, tedy komunistického východního Nìmecka. Nesla èestný název „Wladimir Komarow“ na poèest sovìtského kosmonauta, který zahynul v dubnu 1964 pøi pøistání kosmické lodi Sojuz 1.Zobrazený stroj je v souèasné dobì souèástí expozice Deutsches Museum Flugwerft v Oberschleißheimu.
