When his mother Mary had beenbetrothed to Joseph, before they

came together she was found to bewith child of the Holy Spirit. (Mt1:18)

First sorrow

Simeon blessed them and said toMary his mother, "Behold, this child

is set for (…) a sign that is spokenagainst (…) that thoughts out ofmany hearts may be revealed." (Lk2:34-35)

Fourth sorrow

At the end of eight days, when hewas circumcised, he was called

Jesus, the name given by the angelbefore he was conceived in thewomb. (Lk 2:21)

Third sorrow

He came to his own home, and hisown people received him not. (Jn1:11)

Second sorrow

And he rose and took the child andhis mother, and went to the land ofIsrael. But when he heard thatArchelaus reigned over Judea inplace of his father Herod, he wasafraid to go there. (Mt 2:22)

Sixth sorrowSixth sorrow

An angel of the Lord appeared to

Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise,take the child and his mother, andflee to Egypt, and remain there till Itell you; for Herod is about tosearch for the child, to destroyhim." (Mt 2:13)

Fifth sorrow

They sought him among their kins-folk and acquaintances; and whenthey did not find him, they returnedto Jerusalem, seeking him. (Lk2:44-45)

Seventh sorrow

An angel of the Lord appeared tohim in a dream, saying, "Joseph,son of David, do not fear to takeMary your wife, for that which isconceived in her is of the Holy

Spirit; she will bear a son, and youshall call his name Jesus." (Mt1:20-21)

First joyFirst joy

For my eyes have seen thy salva-

tion which thou hast prepared inthe presence of all peoples, a lightfor revelation to the Gentiles. (Lk2:30-32)

Fourth joy

She will bear a son, and you shall

call his name Jesus, for he willsave his people from their sins. (Mt1:21)

Third joyjoy

They went with haste, and foundMary and Joseph, and the babelying in a manger. (Lk 2:16)

Second joyjoy

And he went and dwelt in a city

called Nazareth, that what wasspoken by the prophets might befulfilled, "He shall be called aNazarene." (Mt 2:23)

Sixth joyjoy

And he remained there until the

death of Herod. This was to fulfillwhat the Lord had spoken by theprophet, "Out of Egypt have Icalled my son." (Mt 2:15)

Fifth joyjoy

After three days they found him in

the temple, sitting among theteachers, listening to them andasking them questions. (Lk 2:46)
