Last week, as we celebrated the Class of 2020 during our Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony, my mind wandered back to when our graduates were freshmen. As I looked out in the pews, I was overcome with emotion at how much they’ve changed physically, mentally, socially, and spir-itually! They, as a class, weathered many storms and expe-rienced many joys, sorrows, challenges, fun times, and hard times together. Seeing them united, one last time, in prayer and in celebration, was a blessing for all in attendance and a great reminder to me that, in community and in faith, we have what we need to grow, to change, and to respond in dignity and in grace to our daily challenges. This is the es-sence of what a Catholic education aims to do, isn’t it? To equip our young people to face life as good Christians and good citizens.

We as a school community, as a faith community, face the 2020-2021 school year with hope, with optimism, and with the knowledge that we can continue our mission in the Sale-sian style: offering our students a home where they are wel-comed, accepted, and loved; a school that prepares them for life; a playground where they can have fun, make new life-long friends and experience true joy; and finally, a church where they can experience God’s love and his grace during every moment of their lives.

I know you are anxious to hear our plans for the reopening of our school buildings next month. Throughout the summer, our startup team has been working with Diocesan leadership to prepare to begin the school year in a manner that pro-motes the health and well-being of our students and staff.

The attached guide is meant to serve as a helpful reference for you and your family as we all prepare for the upcom-ing school year. It outlines the safety measures, policies, and procedures we are implementing in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope it addresses the questions and concerns you have regarding the opening of the 2020-2021 school year. Should you have any additional questions, please, con-tact the school office and someone will assist you.

Be certain of my prayers for you and your good health. I look forward to starting a challenging, but great school year!

FACIAL COVERINGA facial covering:

• Can be a mask or neck gaiter/buff, only.• Is REQUIRED to be worn by all persons on school

property throughout the school day.

All facial coverings worn at school must adhere to the following guidelines:

• The covering must fit appropriately, covering both the nose and the mouth.

• Any solid colored or patterned mask is acceptable.• Coverings featuring characters, graphics, im-

ages, logos or words cannot contain profanity, political-related content or any message deemed inappropriate or distracting.

• All masks must reflect Catholic values.

If school staff deem a mask inappropriate, extra masks will be available in the office for the student to wear if he or she is asked to change his or her mask.

We encourage each student to have multiple wash-able masks available at home to ensure a clean mask can be worn to school every day.

Masks may be removed for:• Eating/drinking at lunch.• Outdoor PE activities.

STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER CAMPUS WITHOUT A MASK.

Masks will be available for purchase if a student for-gets or loses his/hers.

SOCIAL DISTANCINGSocial distancing is an effective way to prevent the potential spread of infection. Throughout the school day, faculty and students will follow the CDC rec-ommended distancing guidelines and will eliminate physical and shared surfaces contact with others whenever possible.

All persons on school property are to wear a mask and are asked to keep 3 – 6 feet apart. In the situa-tions where masks are temporarily removed, all per-sons must remain at least 6 feet apart.

SHARED SUPPLIES/EQUIPMENTTeachers will minimize the use of shared items in the classroom. When that is not possible, shared items will be wiped down between uses (keyboards, computers, science equipment, whiteboard markers, etc.).

Shared school supplies will not be available (extra pen-cils, pens, etc.). Students will be responsible for ensur-ing they have all of their own necessary school supplies every day.

Chilled water bottle filler stations have been added across campus and water fountain spouts have been disabled. Students may use/carry a clear water bottle during the day, per the handbook guidelines.

Vending machines will be operational. A hand sanitizer dispenser will be stationed at each machine, and the cleaning crew will sanitize high touch surfaces through-out the day.

HEALTH MONITORINGWe all have a part to play to ensure the safety of our family at home and our school family. Self-monitoring and communicating are vital to a safe and successful

school re-opening. Our goal is to provide continuous on-campus instruction in a safe and healthy environ-ment and we will be constantly re-evaluating and re-as-sessing campus health and safety conditions.

REGARDING YOUR STUDENT’S HEALTH….YES, WE WANT THEM IN SCHOOL….BUT WHEN IN DOUBT,

KEEP THEM OUT!

Parents and students should self-screen at home every day. If a student is displaying any possible COVID-19 symptoms, please keep the student at home. Please also contact the school office so we know your student will be staying home. We will then provide additional information to coordinate at-home learning and share the protocols for your student’s return to on-campus classes.

Students who begin to exhibit COVID-19 symptoms or feel sick during the school day will be placed in one of our isolation rooms and the parent will be contacted immediately to take the student home. We will then provide additional information to coordinate at-home learning and share the protocols for your student’s re-turn to on-campus classes.
