RICK HUIJBREGTS
MIGUEL J. MARTINS, is the Global Lead – Innovation & Sustainability in the Knowledge,
Learning & Innovation Office of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Miguel joined
IFC in 2000. He is also the Program Manager for the FT/IFC Transformational Business Awards,
the world’s leading awards for financial and non-financial companies that demonstrate
leadership and innovation in integrating environmental, social and corporate governance
considerations into their business. Miguel started his career in the financial sector in 1987 as
Manager for the International Relations Group of Banco Comercial Português (BCP) in
Portugal, where he was responsible for managing the bank’s worldwide financial institutions
portfolio. In 1995, Miguel moved back to Mozambique as Director, International andTreasury Division of Banco International de Moҫambique (BIM), a start-up bank equitably
owned by BCP and the Mozambican Government. At IFC, he was an Investment Officer
for the Global Financial Markets Department. In 2002, he was Transaction Leader for the
Banco ABN AMRO Real project, IFC’s first ever financial markets project to exclusively target
sustainability concerns. He was also Project Leader for the BOVESPA Stock Exchange
Sustainability Index, the second index of its kind in emerging markets after South Africa. In
2005, Miguel moved on to the Financial Markets Sustainability Group where he started to
focus exclusively on financial markets sustainability.
RICK HUILBREGTS is the Managing Director, Digital Transformation and Industry Solutions at
Cisco Americas. Rick leads a team of highly skilled industry professionals and business
developers to drive business transformation and relevance with Cisco and Cisco’s
Canadian customers. As part of Industry Transformation, Rick and his team oversee two of
Cisco Canada’s top priorities: Smart + Connected Communities (changing Canada’s
productivity and innovation profile through community and infrastructure transformation) —
including Smart + Connected Real Estate, and the Internet-of-Things (connecting the
unconnected and driving toward an internet of infinite interactions with the goal to
advance sustainable performance in Canada’s industries). Rick started at Cisco in 2005 as
a member of Cisco’s corporate real estate team, after which he served for three years in
various business development roles focusing on the real estate sector in the United States,
Canada, and Emerging Markets [Russia, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Central
and South America] regions. Prior to joining Cisco, Rick was executive director of the
Center for Design Informatics at the Harvard Graduate School of Design where he worked
at the cross- section of innovation, technology, change management, and real estate. For
numerous years more, Rick promoted and implemented business transformation initiatives
with international clients like AEW Capital, McGraw-Hill Construction, Aukett Architects, and
Capital Planning Technologies. Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in construction
management, a master’s degree in real estate development and project management
from Delft University, and a doctorate from Harvard University with a specialization in real
estate technology and investment management. Rick currently is an instructor in Harvard
GSD Executive Education focusing on topics of Smart Cities and Smart Buildings; is
Executive-in-Residence for George Brown College; serves on the industry advisory board for
the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department at the University of Toronto; is
founding member on the Evergreen CityWorks Leaders Council; is recipient of the Queen
Elizabeth Royal Jubilee Award for his groundbreaking work in Community Innovation in
Canada; and was named “top 35 people to watch” in the industry by Realcomm.
