WhAt is the bLUe CirCLe series? As a community arts organization, the Sid Williams Theatre Society strives to enrich the Comox Valley’s cultural activities. Each year between September and June, we proudly present a diverse season of professional performing artists.

Presenting a performance means we have carefully selected and contracted the artists to appear locally, unlike commercial or community user groups who select available dates to rent the theatre for their shows.

WhAt’s iN A NAme?It celebrates our brand, but there is deeper meaning. Blue is the colour of inspiration. The circle celebrates inclusion. It symbolizes our eyes and opening awareness. It represents the infinite nature of energy. It symbolizes the cycles of time, the movements of seasons. The circle is sacred to many cultures, and beckons the viewer to be drawn in, like a spotlight on our stage.

Celebrating artistic creativity and cultural diversity. Enriching our community.

Infectious roots rock with a classic rock soul and a country heart, The Matinée, whose four members have known each other since high school, recalls countless roots-rockers from Ryan Adams to The Sadies. With a live show generally known to be an uproar of stomping, clapping, and blazing chops, The Matinée have plenty of great group vocals and harmonies, and some fantastic guitar work.

“Rarely have I experienced a band that delivers such a complete musical panorama from the get-go as does The Matinée – outstanding songs, a fantastic stage show, and a classic look and sound.” – Grant Lawrence, CBC Radio 3

This six-piece band from Toronto has a sound described as “folk-pop”, “alt-country”, and “rock-grass”. The Strumbellas won the 2014 JUNO Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year and the 2014 SiriusXM Award for Folk Group of the Year. They also received a JUNO Award nomination in 2012 for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.

“The Toronto-based roots rockers prove you don’t need auto tune and synthetic beats...The Strumbellas hopeful brand of finely crafted indie music – full of handclaps and harmonies – offers an enchanting mix of folk, bluegrass and country.” - “PopForecast” Postmedia

An Arts Club Theatre Company ProductionMusic and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff MarxBook by Jeff Whitty

Irreverently witty and outright uproarious, Avenue Q is the musical story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who arrives in New York City looking for love, a job, and his purpose in life. The only neighbourhood he can afford is the multicultural Avenue Q, where Sesame Street-esque puppets rub shoulders with humans. Part felt, part flesh, Avenue Q is packed with songs that are surprisingly poignant and only occasionally PC.

WArNiNG: Full puppet nudity & other vulgarities will induce laughter.

“ Magical.., enchanting, ...mesmerizing,”

these are words that describe Winter Harp, an acclaimed ensemble of harps, flutes, medieval instruments, percussion, poetry and song.

WiNter hArpDeCember 11, 20147:30 pm

Join this Yuletide ensemble as it whisks you to a far-off land of moonlight, castles and snow. It’s like being in an ethereal medieval dream — hauntingly beautiful, yet as cozy and warm as Christmas. Gorgeous medieval attire and a stage set with candles and breathtakingly beautiful backdrops of cathedral and snow add to the beauty of this unique show.

Carols, both familiar and ancient, will set your heart singing as you journey with the musicians to Christmases of long ago.

Why FUNDrAise?

The Sid Williams Theatre Society is a registered charitable organization with a mandate to stimulate and enhance artistic, cultural, and recreation activities in the Comox Valley and surrounding regions through its operations of the Sid Williams Theatre.

Our fundraising activities support everything from technical equipment purchases to high school bursaries, to our Superstar program which allows us to provide free tickets to individuals, families, and youth who otherwise would not have access to cultural events at the theatre.
