Contemplation: The person acknowledges that there is a problem with their current behaviour or practices, however they are not ready or are uncertain that they want to change. Creating an argument for change and providing motivation will assist them to Preparation.
Preparation: A person has made the commitment to change and is taking the necessary steps to prepare themselves for action and to support the change in the long term.
Action: This is where the change is put into place. An individual starts to think and behave differently. An individual passes into the Maintenance stage through the ongoing application of these new attitudes and behaviours.
The Stages of Change Model1 provides an explanation of change at an individual level. The Model identifies the predictable and necessary stages that each individual will progress through in order to achieve sustainable attitudinal and behavioural change.
Pre-contemplation: A person does not see a reason to change. To initiate the change process and drive individuals to Contemplation, the individual’s thinking must be challenged by providing a motivation to think and act differently.
THE CHANGE PROCESSImplementing a safety, well-being or leadership cultural change process necessitates an understanding of the psychology behind the change process.
Maintenance: A person shows a continued commitment to sustaining the new behaviour (and not falling back into old habits). The change has progressed from the cognitive to the practical, and new ways of operating are the norm.
Sentis’ approach to cultural change parallels this process, tailoring the implementation of a change process around a number of phases designed to motivate and guide individuals, and ultimately a business through these stages with the goal of developing a culture that values safety and well-being. This process is represented by the three phase ZIP flow model.

Secondly, Sentis works with you to prepare your organisation for change, using activities such as assessing impacted groups, establishing sponsor roadmaps and steering committees, and developing a communication plan as well as a plan to counteract resistance.
PHASE 2: IMPLEMENTATION
Managing Change
The change process begins for the workforce using a layered approach targeting three areas: Individual, Leaders and Organisation. Activities could include:
§ ZIP Training for Leaders and Teams (and ZIP Coaches)
§ Individual coaching for senior leaders and group coaching for front line leaders
§ Implementing strategies and plans created in the ZIP Preparation Phase
§ Ongoing data collection and regular progress reporting and meetings
PHASE 3: MAINTENANCE
Reinforcing Change
The final phase involves measuring, supporting and sustaining the changes made, while better preparing the business to respond to opportunities to drive further change and improvement. Actions could include:
§ Monthly, quarterly and/or half yearly consultation services
§ Refresher programs and quarterly campaigns
§ Ongoing coaching for Leaders and ZIP Coaches
§ Ongoing assessment and feedback, including post implementation evaluation
PHASE 1: PREPARATION
Preparing for Change
This phase identifies the “what” and the “how” of the change process.
Firstly, Sentis seeks to develop a genuine understanding of your business and the nature of your current safety culture – to tailor the way we work to suit your business, your needs and your goals. Activities could include:
§ Quantitative and qualitative scoping that provides a baseline against which cultural change can be assessed
§ Identifying and prioritising the most important opportunities to achieve quick wins
§ Undertaking a pilot program to test the suitability of the proposed approach

.REDUCE WORKPLACE INCIDENTS & IMPROVE SAFETY ATTITUDES
ZIP Well-being
From an organisational perspective, the goal of ZIP Well-being is to strengthen productivity, engagement, resiliency, teamwork, and efficacy in the workplace, as well as reduce absenteeism, improve retention and increase openness to change.
It is well known that the leadership of an organisation directly impacts on the well-being culture and performance of a business. Therefore, the leadership component of ZIP Well-being will provide your leaders with:
§ the opportunity to reflect on their own well-being attitude and choices, and how this impacts the people they lead;
§ a foundation in the neuroscience of leadership;
§ a framework to directly influence the psychology and attitudes of the people they lead; and
§ information and tools to assist leaders to encourage their team members to make better well-being choices.
At an individual level, outcomes we have seen in participants in the ZIP Well-being process include:
§ Reduced stress and increased resilience
§ Increased conviction to take on challenges and deal with change
§ Improved health
§ Improved organisational commitment
§ Enhanced confidence and self-esteem
§ Increased job satisfaction
§ A healthier family and community
ZIP Coach
An important element of any culture change initiative driven by an external organisation is the transition phase whereby the client becomes an independent driver of the process. This is where the ZIP Coach process comes in, either during or at the completion of the ZIP Safety or ZIP Well-being training programs.
The goal of ZIP Coach is to ensure that the necessary expertise has been developed within your organisation to ensure further gains and a strengthening of culture is driven internally.
You choose the key individuals within your organisation who have the scope and authority to facilitate change when needed. These individuals become your internal ZIP Coaches and will assist in achieving long-term goals across the safety culture of your organisation.
Each ZIP Coach receives advanced training in high level influencing and coaching skills and is provided with ongoing support through coaching by Sentis coaches.
ZIP Support Materials
A range of support materials is available to enhance the learning and retention of core information provided in the ZIP training. These include workbooks, focus statements, coaching diaries, factsheets, posters and other visual aids.
ZIP Safety
ZIP Safety is not a program in “what” is safe, nor is it instructions on “how” to follow procedures. What keeps a person safe most of the time is their skills, knowledge and attitudes towards safety. ZIP Safety focuses on the link between safety attitudes and safety performance.
ZIP Safety applies a framework for enhancing your organisation’s safety systems using the latest neuroscience developments with the goal of:
§ increasing the level and quality of individual employee engagement with safety tools and practices, and reinforcing effective attitudes and personal responsibility for safety;
§ supporting leaders to directly improve safety performance in their team and enhancing the culture of leadership within your organisation;
§ creating and maintaining a cultural framework that supports ongoing improvement in safety and performance.
Our research shows that clients who have integrated ZIP into their safety programs have achieved positive results across a number of important safety outcomes.
The outcome is a reduction in incident and injury rates and the associated costs incurred when someone is injured in the workplace. This is often accompanied by a positive shift in employee safety attitudes and the safety culture of the organisation. ZIP has also demonstrated positive well-being outcomes for a number of clients, in terms of improving stress levels and psychological health reported by employees. Fo

the safety Culture survey
Psychological forces within an organisation can influence the beliefs, attitudes and behaviour of employees, and the complex interplay of individuals, teams and departments can determine the extent to which an organisation realises its safety performance goals. Sentis offers a Safety Culture Survey that is designed to assess shared perceptions of safety-relevant factors in operation within organisations. Following analysis of the data, organisations are provided with a tailored report and feedback presentation to guide strategic planning and the development of specific interventions.
site scoping Process
The Site Scoping Process is a multi-faceted process designed to thoroughly assess a site across a number of elements, including Practices, Environment, Leadership and Person factors. The Scoping Process involves comprehensive time on site, firstly, to observe and collect data against a range of activities including site meetings, risk assessment processes, inductions and training activities, and secondly, to interact with and collect data from a number of key site personnel. The resulting Assessment Report incorporates information and ratings from the Site Scoping Process with the data obtained from the Safety Culture Survey. This report will comprise a detailed explanation of the current safety climate, strengths and development opportunities for the site, as well as recommendations for both short and long-term improvements.
the ZeROscale-safety
The ZEROScale-Safety (ZS-S) is an assessment tool utilised as part of the ZIP Safety process for the purposes of individual personal development. It measures individual’s personal beliefs regarding safety – specifically across five core safety attitudes: Safety Control, Risk Awareness,
Operating Attitude, Stress Management and Professional Orientation. The results of the ZS-S provide insights into individuals’ thinking patterns regarding safety and whether these attitudes, which drive particular behaviours, either help or hinder their ability to stay safe.
the ZeROscale-Well-being
Similarly to the ZS-S, the ZEROScale-Well-being (ZS-W) is an assessment tool used within the ZIP Well-being process for individual personal development. The ZS-W assesses a core set of well-being attitudes that have been linked to important health, safety and well-being outcomes for individuals and organisations. These well-being attitudes consist of Brain Tools (Well-being Locus of Control and Directed Attention), Risk Awareness, Operating Attitude, Stress Management and Professional Orientation.
360º Feedback and assessment
360º assessments are feedback tools designed to obtain the perspectives of key stakeholders around an individual. Typically, they include ratings from an individual’s manager, peers and subordinates as well as a self-rating. 360º assessments are designed to increase levels of self-awareness and reflection and can prompt positive behaviour change, particularly when the process is facilitated effectively with professional and challenging feedback sessions.
Customised surveys
Sentis can create tailored surveys designed to gather information specific to client and/or site requirements. Sentis partners with clients in a consultative manner to discuss survey and reporting requirements and will create a customised survey, support the data collection process and create a targeted and comprehensive Assessment Report.
The research and assessments team at Sentis includes registered psychologists, data analysts and business leaders who offer a depth of experience in research and analysis. This experience allows us to offer both standard and tailored assessment tools to suit a client’s particular needs. We work closely with our clients to develop a genuine understanding of their organisational context so as to provide a research solution that is both practical and meaningful.
We offer a range of assessments that target the individual, leader and organisational level, as outlined below.
safety leadership survey
Leadership is a key predictor of safety in the workplace. The Sentis Safety Leadership Survey has been designed to measure the safety-relevant behaviours of leaders that may influence an organisation’s safety culture and the behaviours and attitudes of employees. This short 20-minute survey measures perceptions of safety behaviour and attitudes of frontline leaders across eight distinct safety leadership dimensions. Fo
