SAP TM Processing Transportation Requests Business Documents
The following Business Documents are used to represent transportation demand:
Forwarding Order Forwarding Quotation (Request for Quotation) Order-Based Transportation Requirement Delivery-Based Transportation Requirement
They are derived from the technical object Transportation Request
Transportation demands can originate from different sources.
The technical object is not visible to the business user.

SAP TM Processing Transportation Requests Forwarding Order
Forwarding Order Management Comprises functionality such as creation,
update or confirmation of forwarding orders
Forwarding Orders can be received electronically via EDI or can be entered through UI
Tight integration with neighboring building blocks such as Transportation Planning, Transportation Charge Management and Forwarding Settlement
SAP 2007 / Page 9
SAP TM Processing Transportation RequestsForwarding Order
An order from an ordering party to a logistics service provider to transport goods from one or multiple shippers to one or multiple consignees
Contains information about Goods to be transported, Packaging /
Resource Information Quantities Ship-from and Ship-to Location Pickup and Delivery Dates Involved Parties Inco terms
The forwarding order can be received via EDI message (e.g. from another TM system) or it can be manually entered via UI

SAP TM Processing Transportation Requests Forwarding Orders
SAP 2007 / Page 11
SAP TM Processing Transportation Requests Forwarding Quotation
An offer (i.e. quote) by a logistics service provider to a customer for the transportation of goods
The offer binds the logistics service provider for a certain period of time to execute a subsequent forwarding order for a certain amount of money
The quotation process in Forwarding Order Management is seamlessly integrated with the tendering process in Freight Order Management

SAP TM Order Driven Transportation Requests ERP Integration
ERP Logistics Integration
Comprises of functionality to receive transportation requirements coming from ERP Orders and ERP Deliveries of an external ERP system
Capability to create ERP Deliveries in an external ERP system
Tight integration with Transportation Planning
SAP 2007 / Page 13
SAP TM Order Driven Transportation Requests Order/Delivery Based Trans. Requirement
An ERP Order (such as Sales Order or Purchase Order) is integrated with Business Document Order-Based Transportation Requirement
Transport relevant information of the ERP Order (such as items, quantities, source location, destination location, pickup date, delivery date, business partners) are stored in the Order-based Transportation Requirement
Transportation Planning is done based on the Order-based Transportation Requirement in order to optimize the requested transports with respect to the available capacity / resources
Based on the Transportation Planning ERP Deliveries are created in SAP ERP
An ERP Delivery (such as Inbound Delivery or Outbound Delivery) is integrated with Business Document Delivery-Based Transportation Requirement
The Delivery-Based Transportation Requirement based on the ERP Delivery reflects the final transport requirement from ERP
Order Based Transportation Requirements from ERP (SOs, POs, STOs)
Note that Order Based Transportation Requirements can not be updated in TM
Updates must originate in ERP

SAP TM Order Driven Transportation Requests Order Integration Highlights..
Integration of ERP Sales Orders, Customer Returns, Purchase Orders, Returns Purchase Order, Stock Transport Orders and Returns Stock Transport Orders into Transportation Management.
Transportation planning in TM with ERP orders, prior to delivery creation, results in an earlier forecast on future transportation and resource demands.
Enables tendering, subcontracting and execution in TM with ERP orders prior to delivery creation.
Continuously allows reaction to order changes in ERP.
Delivery creation based on dates and quantities according to transportation planning results, taking into account transportation constraints like resource availability and transportation durations.
SAP 2008 / Page 16
SAP TM Order Driven Transportation RequestsOrder Integration Basic Aspects
Customizing in ERP to define relevancy of orders for TM integration
Creation in TM as Order-Based Transportation Requirements (OTR) and Delivery-Based Transportation Requirements (DTR)
Delivery creation from TM will be supported both interactively and by batch processing
Customizing in TM to define different OTR and DTR types Planning on requested or confirmed quantities Automatic Freight Unit creation is possible
Integration via asynchronous enterprise service communication (SOA) Via SAP Process Integration (SAP PI) Via point-to-point communication (WS-RM)
Integration is available with ERP ECC 6.0, EhP 5

SAP TM Request Management Change Controller
The request data received from your ordering party and the planning data for transportation requests can change during the order management process.
The inbound controller in SAP Transportation Management checks whether the transportation requests have changed and assesses the impact of these changes on further transportation planning.
You can define whether the inbound controller automatically copies changes made to the request data to the planning data.
The system can perform the following actions:
Remove the corresponding freight units from the transportation plan Invalidate successor business objects Regenerate successor business objects Issue alerts
Actions are only triggered if the planning data is affected.
