Labor Update

Local education added 600 jobs and construction added 200 more – part of an 1,100 job boost – and the unemployment rate fell from 4.2 percent in July to 3.8 percent in August, the Labor Market Division of the state Employment Development Department reports

Minimum Wage will increase 8.33% in January. The market rate for hourly employees has increased by 21%. PVE must increase our wages to market rate in order to remain competitive and attract employees.

Landscaping Update

• In August of this year, PVE’s contracted Arborist, Fallen Leaf Tree Management, was asked to do a comprehensive walk of our entire campus

• On campus we have 992 trees derived from 24 different species, with the most dominant tree being 250 Sycamores.

• Five species of trees make up 63% of our entire landscape, 145 Pear, 56 Pistache, 74 Hackberry, 100 Cork Oak and Sycamore.

• A total of 7 trees were recommended for removal, 2 of which have already been cut down with the remaining 5 to be cut down on September 25th.

• Q4 2019 - 2020 – approximately half of the remaining trees will be properly trimmed.
