IntroductionO R2D2 model for online learning activities –

cycle of Read, Reflect, Display and Do.O Collaborative and active learning

experiences in a blended spaceO Questionnaire – evaluate four learning

activitiesO Analysis suggests that the results were

favourable/ positive commentsO Assist the learning of academic skills for

vocabulary acquisition, pronunciation, note taking and presentations.

Applying R2D2

ORead

O Each week, students learn 30 academic

words.

O Multimedia application (Blackboard LMS)

O click on each word in order to see it written,

hear it spoken and see and hear the word used

O Finally, students practise pronunciation and

use them in academic sentences.

OReflect

O record audio file using recorder and post

the audio files in the discussion forum

O Facilitator - provides feedback to each

student and encourage usage of questions

(metacognitive skills)

O Students – listen, reflect and provide

feedback

ODisplay

O Students learn how to use MSPowerPoint.

O Facilitator - scaffolds the learning process by

leading an analysis of the design

O Blog - containing visual based learning

activities, examples and links about the

topic, is provided for students to utilise

O Students - expected to learn and apply

Internet search skills to find and share

resources

O Apply in real-life situation

O E.g - investigate options for further study at University.

O MSPowerPoint to present

O Students - organise themselves into groups according

to students with similar future study plans. Use Internet

and every group member must speak

O Rubric – provided to measure learning outcomes and

guide students

O Summative assessment - presentation and note taking

Conclusion

O The model has emphasised a

learning process which places the

student at the centre of the design

process enabling them to be

engaged in the active processes of

Reading, Reflecting, Displaying and

Doing.
