1. IntroductionThis guide assumes you have some basic understanding of your Zgemma box, how to copy theimageontoaUSBandhowtouseFTP(suchasFilezilla).Please take the time to read this Guide. The steps here are important. The vastmajority ofrequestsforhelparefrompeoplethathaven’treadorfollowedthisguidethrough.This guide now features 4 different options for settings up your channels – Please read thePreparationsectionbelowbeforefollowingtheoptionrelatingtoyourparticularsetup(Sky;Sky&Virgin;Virgin;orVirgin&Sky).Oncecompleteyourchannelsetup,youshouldcontinuingreadingtheguidefordetailsonhowtoaddyourlineandsomefinalsuggestedtasks.Everyoneshouldreadandfollowsections1through4.Thendependingonhowyouwantyourboxsetup and which providers (Sky/Virgin) you connect to, follow the appropriate section, beforecontinuingtothefinalsections.STOP–Thereare4waysinwhichyoucanrunyourZgemma.

2. RedButtonWith the launch of iPab v1.3, all of themost used functions, information, setup and just abouteverything else cannowbe access bypressing theRedButton. Thiswill launch the IPabmenu.Within thismenu you can performQuick Start (for both Virgin and Sky), Correctly switch skins,including adding picons if youwish, Install IPTV subscriptions, run system and iPab updates, getinformationonNetworksettings,Drivemounts,swapfiles,importand/orbackupyourLineandjustabouteveryfixwe’veeverbeenaskedfor.Thisguidecoversalot,buthavealookaroundintheiPab.PresstheRedButton!

3. PreparationTheseinstructionsarebasedonWindows7–Yourexperiencemaydifferslightly.

PreparingyourUSBdriveThekeythingtoknowaboutflashingtheseboxesisthattheyareVERYsensitivetoUSBdrives.AUSBdrivethatworksflawlessonaPC,maynotworkwhenflashingyourbox.Forthebestchanceofthiswork,ensureyouuseaqualitybrandedUSBdriveandwherepossible,keepitlessthan32gbsothatyoucanformatitasFAT32.

• InsertyourUSBintoaspareUSBportonyourPC• ClickStartandselectComputer• FindyourUSBdriveinthelistofdrives.Makesureyouselecttherightone• RightclickonthedriveandselectFormat

• Ensuretheformat isFAT32(ifyoudouseadrive largerthan32gbyouwillhavetoselect

exFAT)• It’salwaysbesttoremovethecheckfromQuickFormatandletthedriveformatfully• ClickStart

• Acceptthewarningmessagethatconfirmsyourdrivewillbeerased

IfyouhaveuncheckedQuickFormat,expecttheformattotakeawhile,howlongdependsonthesizeofyourdrive,buta4gbdrivewilltakeabout5-10mins

DownloadtheiPab.tvImageWhilearewaitingfortheformattofinishyoucandownloadtheimage.

• Visithttp://iPab.tv• Click‘DownloadImage’fromthetopmenubar• Click‘Download’

MAKESUREyouknowwhereyousavethedownloadto–Ifyouarepromptedtosavethefile,youwillknowwhereyouhaveputit–Ifyourbrowserdoesn’tpromptyouforalocation,itmostlikelyputitintotheDownloadsfolderonyourPC.NOTE-ThefilethatyoudownloadisaZIPfile,whichcontainstheimageaswellastheQuickStartandUserGuide.ButyoumustfirstUNZIPtheZIPfile.

• Makesureyou’vegivethefileenoughtimetodownload–Don’ttryanunzipthefileswhilstitisstilldownloading

• FindthedownloadedimageZIPfile(Ifindoubt,checkthedownloadsfolder)• RightclickontheZIPfileandselectExtractAll

• ThefilewillUNZIPinthesamefolder• Dragthezgemma(OrvuplusifyouhaveaVu+box)folderanddropitontoyourUSBdrive–

Youmayneedtoexpand‘Computer’toseethedrive-Itwilltakeaminuteortwotocopythefolderacross

NOTE–TakeamomenttocheckthatthezgemmafolderisontheUSBdriveandnotinasub-folderoftheUSBdrive

• Whenthefolderhascompletelycopied,rightclickonyourUSBdriveandselectEject• RemoveyourUSBdrive

ConnectyourZgemmabox• ConnectyourZgemmaboxtoyourTV,connect theSatellite feedcable(s),Ethernetcable,

HDMIcableandpowercable–EnsurethatatthispointyouDONOThaveanyUSBdrivesconnectedtotheboxatall.

4. FlashyourZgemmaboxSTOP – Before you proceed, it is assumed you know how to backup your line, OR that you areinstallingthisimageontoanewbox.Detailsareincludedattheendofthisguideonhowtobackupyourline.

• TurnyourZgemmaboxOFFusingthewhiteswitchontherearofthebox• InserttheUSBthumbdrivecontainingtheiPad.tvimageintotherearUSBport(Onthenew

ZgemmamodelsyoucanusethefrontUSBport,butforeasewewillusetherearporthere)• TurnyourZgemmaboxONusingthewhiteswitchontherearofthebox• ThedisplayonthefrontofyourZgemmaboxshouldsayBOOT,thenFLSH–Ifyoudonot

seeFLSHpleaserefertotheseeTroubleshootingsectionforassistance–Flashingtheimagewilltake5-10minutesdependingonyourbox.Pleasebepatient.

• Onceflashinghascompletedtheboxwillbegintoload.ItisVERYimportantthatASSOONASyourboxchangesfromFLSHtoBOOTthatyouremovetheUSBThumbDriveandswitchoffyourZgemmaboxusingthewhiteswitchattherearofthebox.

STOP–DonotproceedtothenextstepsuntilyouhaveremovedtheUSBThumbDriveandswitchedoffyourZgemmaboxusingthewhiteswitchattherear.

5. FirstTimeBoot• ConnectanyUSBdriveyouwillbeusingforrecordings,timeshiftandEPGstorageintothe

rearUSBport.• SwitchyourZgemmaboxONusingthewhitepowerswitchattherear• WaitforyourZgemmaboxto load(Thiswill takebetween1and2minutesdependingon

yourmodel)WhentheZgemmaboxhasbootedfullythefirsttime,youwillseetheVideoWizard,afterwhichitwilltunetoChannel4HD.IfyourboxdoesnotshowyouaworkingTVstation,pleasecheckyourcablesandrefertotheFullSetupGuidefortroubleshooting

UpdateToensureyoustartwiththemostuptodatesoftwareandplugins, it ishighlyrecommendedthatyoucompleteallofthefollowingupdatesteps

• RedButton>1>YellowButton–Thiswill run theemergency fixes toensureanycriticalissuesarepatched–Theboxwillrestartoncecomplete

• RedButton>1>BlueButton–Thiswill runthesystemupdatetoensurethemostuptodateunderlyingoperatingsystemisrunning–Theboxwillrestartoncecomplete

• RedButton>4>1–ThiswillruntheIPTVPlayerupdatetoensureyouhavethemostuptodateIPTVplayer–Theboxwillrestartoncecomplete

SetCorrectTVResolutionTo ensure thewidest possibly compatibilitywithALL devices, theVIDEOWIZARDwill runon firstbootNOTE–Withanyofthesesettings intheVIDEOWIZARD, ifyousetasettingthat is incompatiblewith your TV, the screen will go blank, but will revert to the last good settings after about 30seconds

• SelectHDMIorRCA(DefaultHDMI)• Select the maximum screen resolution your TV will support. 1080p is the Maximum

supportedbyyourZgemmabox,trythisthenworkdownthrough1080i,720pandsoon.• SelecttherefreshrateyourTVwillsupport.UKstandardis50hzandit’sbesttochosethis• PressOKtoexitthewizard

InitialiseyourUSBdriveSTOP–ThiswillcompletelyeraseyourUSBdrive.IfyouareupgradingyourboxtousetheiPab.tvcustomimageandhavealreadyinitialisedadiskthathassomecontenton,youcanskipthispart.

• 2(HardDiskInitialisation)• SelectyourdriveandpressOKButton• RedButton(Initialise)->OKButton• Your USB Drivewill now be formatted (Initialised). Thismay take anything from a few

secondstoafewminutesdependingonthesizeofthedriveyouhaveconnectedNOTE–Ifyouseeanerrormessageaboutbeingunabletounmountyourdrive,followthesestepsandthengobacktothe‘InitialiseyourUSBdrive’section.

swapfile...”-Thisshouldtakenomorethanafewminutes.• Oncethetextatthetopofthescreenhaschangedto‘EnableSwapatstartup’youshould

thenpressRedButton(Activate)>YellowButton(Autostart)• ExitButton>ExitButton>ExitButton-ThiswillreturnyoutoTV

STOP–YouMUSTnowrebootyourboxforthedrivetoberegisteredcorrectlyandfortheswapfiletowork.Thecorrectwaytorebootis:Menu>Standby/Restart>Restart(DonotselectRestartGUIaswewantafullreboot).

Oncetheboxhasrebootedyoucancontinue.

CheckthelocationforRecordingandTimeshift• RedButton>7(QuickStartSetup)>4(Recordingssettings)• Check the ‘Defaultmovie location’which shouldbe /media/hdd/movie/ - This shouldbe

thedefaultandaslongasyou’vefollowedthestepsabovethisshouldn’trequirechanging• ExitButton• 5(TimeshiftSettings)• Checkthe‘Timeshiftlocation’whichshouldbe/media/hdd/timeshift/–Thisshouldbethe

defaultandaslongasyou’vefollowedthestepsabovethisshouldn’trequirechanging.

6. SkyOnlySetupUsethissetupifyouareONLYconnectedtoSatellite(Sky)Feed.

SetyourlocalTVregiontoensurecorrectSkyTVchannelsSTOP–YoumightbeusedtousingAutoBouquetsMaker,buttheiPab.tvCustomImageworksverydifferently.Bouquetsandchannelsaremanagedbycustomplugins–TheiPab.TVCustomImageisconfiguredinaveryuniqueway.Pleasefollowthesestepscarefully.Youshouldonlyneedtomakeachangetoyourregiononce–TheiPab.TVCustomImagewilltakecareofautomaticallyupdatingyourchannellineuponanightlybasis.

• Change the ‘BBC/ITVRegion’ tomatch your local area (Press left or right to select anewregion)

• IfyouwishtohaveBBCOneandBBCTwoinHD,selectYesonthissetting.NOTE–Duringregionalprogrammingsuchasnews,BBCOneHDdoesnotbroadcast.YoushouldconsiderwhetheryouwantBBCOneHDaschannel101.Itisrecommendthissettingissettono).

EPG(ProgramGuide)ProblemsOnoccasionsyoumayfindthattheEPGshowsthesameprogrammeinfoforsomeorallchannels.This is usually a result of a corrupt epg.dat file thatmay have been causedby power outage orgeneral issuewritingtoyourUSBdrive. Thefixdescribedhereshouldresult intheepg.datbeingdeleted(whichwill initiallyleaveyouwithablankEPG)andfreshEPGdatabeingdownloaded.Ifyoufindthiskeepshappening, it’smost likelyaproblemwithyourUSBdriveandI’drecommendreplacingthat–Seethelistofrecommendedequipmentattheendofthisguide.

Thiswill look likethebox is frozenonthebootscreen(orablankscreen).Thisistobeexpected.AfterthistimeyouwillneedtoRescanforchannelsfollowingtherelevantpartoftheguideabove.
