Puzzle 1• There is a horse.

A says, “It is not black". B says, "It is either brown, or gray".Charlie says "I know it is brown".

At least one is right and at least one is wrong. What is the color of the horse if the color is one of the above?

Solution to Puzzle 1• Gray, B’s statement is the only statement that meets the

requirements.

Puzzle 2• There are two towns, A and B.• A guard sits on the bridge between A and B (the only

connection point)• It takes 10 minutes to cross the bridge, but the guard sleeps

in 5 minute intervals.• You try to cross, but halfway over he wakes, and yells:

“Where are you going?”. You say: “I’m from town A, can I get to town B?” but he refuses.

• How can you cross?

Solution to Puzzle 2• Lie: Say I’m from town B, can I get to town A. He will send you

to town A.

Puzzle 3• In a race, if you overtake the second position driver before

the race is over, where will you place?

Puzzle 4• Mr Red, Mr Blue and Mr White meet up, all wearing ties that

are red, blue and white.• Mr Red says: “We’re all wearing ties that do not correspond

with our names!”• The person wearing the blue tie says: You’re right!• Who is wearing what colour tie?

Solution to Puzzle 4• Mr Red: White Tie• Mr Blue: Red Tie• Mr White: Blue Tie• Since Mr Red is not the one with the blue tie.

Puzzle 8• You have a 5 gallon jug and a 3 gallon jug. How do you get

four gallons of water using these jugs?

Solution to Puzzle 8• Fill the 5 gallon jug and pour it into the 3 gallon jug• Now there are 2 gallons remaining in the 5 gallon jug• Pour out the 3 gallon jug and fill it with the 2 gallons in the 5

gallon jug.• Refill the 5 gallon jug.• Use the 5 gallon jug to fill the 3 gallon jug (which already has 2

gallons in it) to the brim. Now there are 4 gallons of water in the 5 gallon jug.

Puzzle 9• There is a barn facing NorthEast. The wind is blowing from

the SouthWest and West. A cock is standing on top of the barn. If it lays an egg, which side of the barn will it roll down?

Solution to Puzzle 9• Cock(erel)s don’t lay eggs.

Puzzle 10• You have two candles. Both take exactly an hour to burn.

HOWEVER they do not burn at a consistent rate, (i.e. a candle could burn halfway through in 5 minutes and take 55 minutes to burn out.)

• How do you use these two candles to measure 45 minutes exactly?

Solution to Puzzle 10• Light both ends of candle A and one end of candle B. It will

take half an hour for candle A to burn up.• Immediately as candle A burns out, light the other end of

candle B. This will now last 15 minutes.• 30+15 = 45 minutes.
