High reliability even under extreme conditionsFull-metal sensors are used wherever an application requires special resistance, e.g. when it comes to coping with important stress factors in industrial applications such as lathes or milling machines. Here, the sensorhousing has to reliably withstand rapid changes of temperature and aggressive media such as lubricants and coolants. Moreover, the robusthigh-grade stainless steel design offers optimum protection against abrasiveparts in metal-cutting machining.In the steel industry or in automotive industry, however, it is weld spatter,that presents a strain on the sensor housing. Process values of 0...100 % can continuously be transferred viaIO-Link over the entire length of 250 mm without dead band. 20 LEDs display the real level inside the vessel directly at the sensor. If several KQ10 unitsare combined, the detection zone can be increased accordingly.

Point level and continuous level monitoringAs opposed to the conventional solution with twopoint level sensors each at the lower (empty) and upperend (overflow) of the tank, one single KQ10 comeswith three switch points to indicate empty, full andoverflow condition. This reduces the number of sensorsand installation complexity. Moreover, it continuouslymeasures levels in ranges of 250 mm and provides these, in addition to the switching states, as a percentagevalue via IO-Link.Slight deposits on the inner walls of the tank do notimpair the level detection, and they can be signalled via the switching output or IO-Link if the threshold isexceeded. This permanent condition monitoring prevents unplanned production downtime.

Made for demanding environmentsThe new compact power pack from ifm is predestined for the rough environments in welding applications. Its non-stick coating prevents thesticking of weld slag, which simply rolls off the robust metal housing. The position sensor detects even tiny changes in the switching area as mayoccur due to dirt or wear, providing the user with additional information forcondition-based maintenance of his installation. The user thus gets additional information for condition-based maintenance of his installation. Even incases of heavy soiling and impact the sensor functions reliably and alwaysguarantees safe operation.
Non-contact sensing through coversThe sensor can detect objects through non-ferromagnetic covers, an additional protection. The low-cost cover can be exchanged easily withoutany technical staff.

Magnetic position sensor and condition monitoring in one housingThe new smart ifm sensor signals what would only become obvious whenit’s too late. Its high resolution allows the sensor to detect even tiny changes in the switching area. In addition to its position sensor functions, it alsoprovides additional information for condition-based maintenance in theuser’s installation. The MQ2 continuously detects ferromagnetic objects infront of its active face. It signals soiling via IO-Link when the current valueexceeds the set threshold so that cleaning can be arranged. The same applies to changes in the switching area, e.g. caused by mechanical wear. The integrated operating hours and switching cycles counter allows theprovision of a signal if the selected number of switching operations hasbeen reached, enabling targeted maintenance of tools.

Two IO-Link switch points can be easily set via the LRDevice software. The first switch point of the sensor becomes active and the orange LED lights when theworkpiece is at the selected distance (e.g. 300 digits). If the distance is smaller (e.g. 100 digits), that is theworkpiece comes unusually close, this implies wear inthe plant, e.g. bending of the spanner. In this case thesecond switch point becomes active and a signal is provided via IO-Link. This makes maintenance whenneeded possible for the user.

Reflectivity to differentiate between objectsThe OGD Reflectivity determines the reflectivity of objects in addition to providing distance information in order to increase the reliability of theprocess control. The reflectivity indicates how much of the emitted light isreflected by a body and varies according to the colour and the properties ofthe surface. This is why the sensor can, for example, distinguish betweenbeverage crates of different colours and detect the absence of print labelson packages to be shipped. Since the sensor provides the reflectivity in addition to the distance via a second switching output, automated sortingapplications can be easily implemented.With the OGD Reflectivity, all parameters can be set as usual using threepushbuttons and are clearly indicated on the two-colour display.

Precise object scan for quality controlIn assembly and handling applications, the profiler does not only verify thepresence of an object, but it checks whether the correct component hasbeen used and properly installed. A push of a button is all that is requiredto compare the contour of an object with the taught target contour storedin the profiler. The photoelectronic line scanner reliably detects tiny differences between nearly identical components. Since the distance is notrelevant, the PMD profiler does not require complicated positioning as isthe case with 1D sensors. Thanks to the insensitivity to extraneous light, no screening or external illumination is required as is the case with camerasystems performing to this high level of accuracy. With its user-friendly colour display and intuitive setting with only 3 pushbuttons, the sensor isready for use within a few minutes without requiring any software. It ispossible to either transmit information on the reject rate or the detectedobject profiles via IO-Link.

Region of Interest: high degree of accuracyTo make the determination of differences between nearly identical components even more reliable, theprofile evaluation can be narrowed down to the relevant object area with two markings by using the Region ofInterest function. The function can be used in the fixed mode to verifywhether the object is accurately positioned. In the floating mode, the contour comparison is variablealong the laser line. It is not necessary to position theparts to be tested in exactly the same way.
Quality assurance: definition of tolerancesThe similarity between the reference and the target object is provided as a value between 0 and 100 %.The threshold function can be used to define the valuefrom which the reference object is no longer acceptable. Advantages of 3D volume control The system is used to check the homogeneous filling of containers with viscous media, such as dough or pastes. An example is the detection ofdouble dough. Automated bread production is prone to errors during thesimultaneous filling of several baking tins (tin sets). Tins that remain unfilledcompromise efficiency. Overfilled tins on the other hand lead to reducedquality and increased soiling of the installation and may even elevate therisk of fire.
Versatile useThe application is an optimum choice for many different manufacturingprocesses. It can be used in food processing (production of bread, cheese,pasta and meat products), but also for the manufacture of consumer goodsbased on rubber, creams or waxes. The 3D volume control helps to reducewaste and downtime and to save costs.

Safety light grid with integrated muting functionThe new generation of light grids allows for the muting mode without anexternal junction box or a muting relay being required as they are alreadyintegrated into the receiving element. The supported muting versions are available as either crossbeam or parallelmuting. Both versions allow transported material to be safely passed in orout, via the protected area. A status light, integrated into the receiver, allows for indication of the operating status. The muting arms can easily be directly installed on the light grid and are available in two versions: either as muting arms with multi-beam sensors, similar to a miniature light grid,or as pre-mounted mounting set with single-beam sensors. Ideal solution for hygienic production plantsThe new PM15 pressure sensor has a unique flush sealing concept. Thisconcept allows hygienic integration of small ceramic-capacitive measuringcells in small pipes, for example, in dosing and filling systems, which wasnot possible before. Thanks to the G 1/2 thread, it can be installed withoutrequiring expensive adapters. Flush fitting makes it possible to use viscousmedia and guarantees optimum results for CIP processes. Maintenance-free and robustOn the process side, the sensor is maintenance-free because it has no elastomer seal. Fast and easy exchangeDespite numerous alternatives valve plugs are still used for the connectionof sensors in many plants. ifm’s PT50xx series now also includes compactpressure sensors with an integrated valve plug. This makes it easy to integrate the sensors into existing plants and to use the existing wiring, which savestime and money.
Tried-and-tested technology and high IP protection ratingThe PT50xx is based on the PT5 family which is perfectly tried and tested on the market. It features a robust thin-film measuring cell without a sealing ring in compact design with 19 mm across flats. With a suitable socket (e.g. E30447) the valve plug used here reaches IP 67 protection rating. Incontrast to the IP 65 sensors with valve plug which are common on themarket the operational reliability is higher.

Highest functionalityThe pressure sensors for homogenisers have been updated and now feature IO-Link, switching output, scalable analogue output, an additional pressurerange and better performance in addition to the new housing. In homogenisers you can often find very high pressurepeaks which can damage the pressure sensors. Improvement of energy efficiency due to the integrated leakage monitoring in the installation
Thanks to the integrated pressure measurement, boththe pressure drop on the polluted filter systems and thecompressed air system’s general operating pressure canbe optimally monitored which is quite important because if the installation comprises actuators that are operatedat 5 bar instead of the ideal 6.3 bar, load speed is already reduced by 25%, with productivity decreasing. On the other hand, an excessive operating pressure does not increase the performance but generates increasedconsumption of compressed air and increased wear ofthe unit.

Permanent status checkingThanks to the calibration check technology, the TCCpermanently checks its own drift behaviour. The sensorcompares the temperature value to the simultaneouslymeasured reference value. If the deviation is outside the tolerance range, which can be set between 0.5 and3 K, the TCC provides an optical signal and sends amessage to the central controller via IO-Link and thediagnostic output. The same applies to cases of seriousmalfunctions.
Quality assurance thanks to event-related measuresParticularly in production processes where exact temperature values are decisive for the product quality, it is important that the measured values are absolutely precise. The TCC allows plant operators totake event-related measures in case of drifts – insteadof waiting for the next planned calibration interval. This reduces the risk of losing entire production batches due to faulty production temperatures.
Transparent sensor communicationVisual and digital indication: The TCC provides the current status in a simple and clear way. If the LED on the sensor is green, the unit operates reliably. Blueindicates a temperature deviation outside the tolerancerange. Red indicates a serious malfunction, such as a failure of the main measuring element.Besides, the TCC automatically stores all the data required for consistent documentation via IO-Link:installation date, operating hours, temperature histogram as well as logbooks on event messages (operating hours and event number) and on the calibration check status(operating hours, temperature value, drift value, limitand status).
Simulation mode: guaranteed reliability even before installationThe value from which the TCC provides a message canbe defined via software. In the simulation mode, theprocess temperature and the reference temperature,among others, can be freely selected to verify whetherthe sensor has been correctly integrated into the controller. This process simulation completes the highlevel of reliability offered by the TCC.

Connection of 2A actuators requiring high voltageOptionally, a digital output mode can be set for pin 2 ofa B port. This makes it possible to switch large solenoidvalves and actuators with up to 2 A.

IO-Link sensors in the fieldIn many installations, sensors have to be installed far away from their connection point. Since IO-Link has only a guaranteed range of 20 m, highadditional costs can incur if longer ranges are required. Using the IO-Linkrepeater E30444, this distance can be increased*, which reduces costs significantly. To do so, the IO-Link repeaters are simply installed in seriesinto the cable, depending on the application and the requested range.The maximum range* depends on the type of transmission, the cable cross-section and the current consumption of the connected device. The IO-Linkrepeater is transparent to masters and functions manufacturer-independently on all certified IO-Link masters. SIO operation is not possible with the IO-Link repeater. The process data are delayed by up to one cycle, acyclic data aredelayed by up to two cycles per repeater.

Current status in the fieldIn older installations, analogue or digital output signals from sensors aremostly sent directly to standard input cards of controllers and processedfurther there. Also, today’s sensors are normally equipped with IO-Link. This means they also transmit relevant data that would be lost with conventional use.
Use the advantages of the future todayWith the IO-Link data splitter it is now possible to enable plant-independent monitoring in a conventional system previously operated in the SIO mode.The controller-related output signals are still sent in the SIO mode to the inputs of the controller. In addition, the process value and other sensor dataare measured and transmitted via IO-Link to higher-level systems (SmartObserver, cloud). Parameter setting of the sensor is possible e.g. with the LR device software and an appropriate IO-Link master.

Teach buttonOne of the sensor’s highlights is the simple teaching viaone button. After pressing the teach button, the useraligns the multicode reader to the code by means of alaser marking. Focusing, exposure setting and detectionof the code type are automatically carried out by thesensor. A few seconds later, the sensor is ready for use.
Configuration via smartphone appA smartphone app (iOS, Android) is available for basicconfiguration of the device. The user can e.g. use it todefine the trigger or IP address. Based on these settings, a Data Matrix code is generated on the smart phone’sdisplay. When this code is held into the multicode reader’s field of view, the configuration is automaticallyadopted.

Three operating modesThe highlight of this signal lamp are the three differentoperating modes offering maximum versatility. IO-Linkoffers the highest degree of flexibility for operation andconfiguration, but using the three digital inputs, the colours can also be selected without using IO-Link. Possible colours are red, green, blue, cyan, magenta,yellow and white.
IO-Link modeIn this mode, the seven colours, the buzzer and thepushbutton can be controlled and configured. The parameter setting (blinking modes, melody, etc.)can be adjusted via the controller at any time. This provides maximum flexibility.
SIO mode RGBThis mode works without IO-Link. The seven colourscan be controlled via three digital inputs (RGB) that canbe triggered individually or in combination. The buzzerand the pushbutton can be addressed and queried via a further pin of the 5-pole M12 socket.
SIO mode on / offIn this mode, three colours can each be selected via aseparate pin. This makes it possible to easily replaceconventional lamps that have more than one lightingsegment. The buzzer and the pushbutton can be addressed and queried via a further pin of the 5-poleM12 socket.
Parameter setting via IO-LinkIf the lamp is operated in the SIO mode, it is possible tooperate the lamp without IO-Link. IO-Link is necessary,for example, to configure the required light signal colours. Using ifm’s PC software, LR DEVICE, it is easyto configure IO-Link devices and to load and store parameter sets. Moreover, measured values can be clearly visualised and device settings can be conveniently tested.

That is why the new TÜV certified ecomatController was developed. It has two independent, internal PLCs, one of which can be used as a safetycontroller.In addition to its multifunctional inputs and outputs with diagnostic capabilities, the unit features two Ethernet ports as well as four CAN inter-faces. The latter support all important bus protocols (CANopen, CANopenSafety and J1939) as well as the transparent and preprocessed data exchange. The control functions are easily integrated into the applicationprogram thanks to CODESYS programming (version 3.5).

The highly elasticmaterial prevents cable sheath deformation and reliably seals even in caseof intense cable movement.
