Dates to Remember!!
Dear Parents & Carers,
Welcome to Week 3, Term 3. I have commented previously that I feel very privileged to serve as the Principal of what I believe is an ‘excellent’ school. We have been on an improvement journey for a number of years now and I can confidently state that we have progressively transformed as a school, and teaching and learning organisation. I can state this claim because the data tells us that what we are doing is making a positive difference at Bakewell School, and most importantly to our students who are engaged in learning. There will be more to come on this but our student achievement data is definitely showing improvement. Furthermore I am pleased to advise that we have continued to see significant reductions in discipline referrals indicating that the majority of our students are following the Bakewell Code of Conduct and making ‘good’ choices. On Semester 2 start-up day I facilitated a group exercise with staff where we identified ‘what is working well at Bakewell’. This was linked to ‘celebrating the successes’ and the more specifically the concept of ‘Celebrating What’s Right with the World’. Too often as individuals and organisations it is easy to focus on what is not working or what is not right. At Bakewell we make a point to focus on what is working and what is going well. There is a lot to celebrate at Bakewell. There was also an invitation to staff to identify the things that are ‘not working’ so well and where there is opportunity for improvement. This process formed part of our continuous improvement agenda and drive to deliver ‘excellence in education’ and to be a high performing school. This is also about enhancing our ‘effectiveness and efficiency’ as a teaching and learning organisation and a ‘school of choice’. Part of our ongoing commitment to school improvement and excellence also necessitates the collation of parent input and feedback. At Bakewell we value the opinions and feedback that our parents and carers provide. Next week all Bakewell families will be receiving a very simple ‘paper’ based version of a Parent /Carer Perception Survey. The survey asks you to provide your opinion and perceptions on the educational service you believe Bakewell School delivers. The parent perception data will be used by this staff and the Bakewell School Board to determine further strategic improvement priorities. Thanks in advance for your participation in this survey which will be sent home with your eldest child and to all Preschool parents. Have a fantastic week and can I please encourage you to take a moment to ‘Celebrate What’s Right with the World’. Kind regards
Paul Nyhuis
