Presentations of Protest: Twitter Images and Activism during Ukraine's Euromaidan

Using a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative analytics and qualita-tive analysis, this presentation examines how Ukrainians used the Twitter hashtag #Euromaidan (Ukrainian: #Євромайдан; Russian: #Eвромайдан) to protest their government’s November 2013 suspension of negotiations to �nalize the European Union—Ukraine Association Agreement. In addition to providing documentary evidence and commentary about protest events, Twitter shaped the information strategies employed by di�erent types of social media actors to engage in a form of “transpolitics” in which domestic politics and policy debates are conducted beyond the con�nes of the traditional nation-state.
