NEWS AT LOURDES
LOURDES BOOK CLUB join us for a book discussion on Saturday, June 24, at Panera,Emory Village at 7PM for dinner with the discussion to begin at 7:45PM. Our book selection is The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. Li-yan and her family align their lives around the seasons and the farming of tea. For the Akha people, ensconced in ritual and routine, life goes on as it has for generations—until a stranger appears at the village gate in a jeep, the first automobile any of the villagers has ever seen. She is one of the few educated girls on her mountain and translates for the stranger. Rejecting the rules of her village, Li-yan has a baby outside of wedlock. Rather than stand by tradition, she wraps her daughter in a blanket, with a tea cake hidden in her swaddling, and abandons her in the nearest city. Li-yan leaves her village for edu-cation and the city life. Her daughter Haley is raised in California by loving adoptive parents. Haley wonders about her origins at the same time that Li-yan longs for her lost daughter. Over the course of years, each searches for meaning in the study of Pu’er, the tea that has shaped their family’s destiny for centuries. A powerful story about two women sepa-rated by circumstance, culture, and distance, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane is an unforgettable portrait of a little known region and its people and a celebration of the bonds of family. Thoughts on Stewardship
In the second reading today, St. Paul reminds the Corinthians, “There are different gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different ministries, but the same Lord.” How am I using my gifts for the common good?

SECOND ANNUAL OLD FOURTH WARD 5K RACE: The race will take place at 8AM on
Saturday, June 17. The Old Fourth Ward 5K is the only road race run entirely in the
Old Fourth Ward. The course has been designed to include the best of both new
landmarks (Ponce City Market, Historic Fourth Ward Park) and old (MLK, Jr. Historic
District). All proceeds benefit Hope-Hill Elementary School where Our Lady of
Lourdes members help by mentoring students (It’s a great way to be of service if
interested). For information and to register for the race, visit: www.o4w5k.com .
2017 EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS: Each year the Eucharistic Congress brings together
Catholics from across the Archdiocese and the country to celebrate the visible, living
presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Archbishop Gregory and Bishop Zarama, ask that
you join them for this year’s Eucharistic Congress at the Georgia International Con-
vention Center, June 16 and 17. The theme of the 2017 Eucharistic Congress
comes from the Book of Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my house we will serve the
Lord.” Let’s welcome the Lord under our roof and into our hearts. Let’s allow Him to
transform us so we can become His hands and feet to go out into the world to serve
our brothers and sisters in Christ.
