THE ball is now rolling to reviveplans for a pink charity fun-draiser after a North Lin-colnshire hotel stepped in tosave the event with an offer of avenue. The fourth annual Pink Ball has beengranted kick-off on August 7 afterbosses at The Forest Pines Golf andHotel Resort, near Broughton, pledgedto stage this year’s fundraiser. As reported, the fundraiser, whichhas helped raise £19,625 for Scunthorpecancer patients, faced the axe unless analternative venue could be found. After a change in owners at the Lin-colnshire Golf Club at Hirst Priory, thefundraisers lost free use of the mar-quee. Forest Pines was warmed by thePink Ball organiser’s heartfelt appealpublished in the Telegraph on Mondayand was the first of a handful of busi-nesses to make an offer.Serena Walters, sales manager atForest Pines, said: “Forest Pines likesto be involved in the local community,so when we saw the plea for help wewanted to assist. I’mdelighted theHopefamily are happy with the venue.”Ball organiser Paul Hope, 54, wasoverwhelmed with the response fromall the local businesseswhich offered tocome to his aid. He said: “I feel reallyexcited that we can do the Pink Ballagain this year and it’s a beautiful

location. The response has been un-believable. I will be writing to the othercompanies and thanking them for com-ing forward.”Speaking about the plans, he added:“We are looking to have up to 270guests, with tickets priced at £26 each –to enable the cost of balloons. ForestPines is sponsoring the serviettes andproviding the nice three-course menuwhich features a Caesar salad starter, abeef main and a lemon tart dessert.“People who are involved in setting

up the ball get such a buzz and I enjoyseeing smiling faces on the night. Ican’t wait – it’s going to be great.”Now the heat is on for the retainedfirefighter and watch manager to rallyround raffle prizes and spread thewordto would-be ticket holders to dust downtheir pink attire for the occasion.MrHope andhis daughter Charlie, 24,set up the annual fundraiser in 2007in memory of his wife, 48-year-oldDiane,who died inNovember 2006 aftera 10-year battle with breast cancer.

Charlie said: “I’m really pleased thatwe can continue with it. We have somuch fun on the night and the amountof people from last year’s event whowanted tickets for this year wasunbelievable – everybodyknowswhat agreat cause the event is for.“We were all devastated when wethought it wouldn’t go ahead but nowwe are over the moon, we really are.”For the past three years the Hopefamily have worked tirelessly to stagethe sell-out event in aid of Ward

18 at Scunthorpe General Hospital.A hospital spokeswoman said: “It isfantastic news that Forest Pines hasoffered a lifeline to the annual PinkCharity Ball. Wewish Paul and CharlieHope all the very best in organisingthis year’s fundraising event.
