Tottenham shirts up for grabs at Pink Ball fundraiser

Signed sportingmemorabilia goesunder the hammerSIGNED sporting memor-abilia from a boxingchamp, a Premier Leaguefootball team and a WorldCup referee are just someof the items to go underthe hammer at the fifthannual Pink Ball.

A bundle of items are openfor closed bidding ahead ofthe pink fundraiser, whichwill be held once again atForest Pines Hotel and GolfResort on Saturday, July 23.

An autobiography signedby Irish professional boxerBarry McGuigan is set topack a punch on the night.

Dubbed “The Clones Cyc-lone”, he became a worldfeatherweight champion in1985.

Organiser Paul Hope said:“I’ve sorted out most of thetable plans and a few ticketsare still on sale. I’m givingpeople until the end of thisweek to book tickets.

“If people want to come theywill have a great night andthe money goes to good local

causes – McMillan Nurses,Ward 18 at Scunthorpe Gen-eral Hospital and LindseyLodge Hospice.

“On the night we will havean auction, a raffle, stand-upbingo, plus another thing thatremains a surprise.

“We just hope to raise asmuch money as possible. Todate, the Pink Ball has helpedraise £23,675.”

Paul Hope and his daughterCharlie set up the annual fun-draiser in 2007 in memory ofPa u l ’s wife, Diane, who diedaged 48 in November 2006after a ten-year battle withbreast cancer.

Paul said: “It’s a good night.It’s nice to see people enjoy-ing themselves.

“I’ve already had a £50 start-ing bid for the Gareth Baleshirt and I am acceptingclosed bids on any of the auc-tion items.”

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning aiming to top £8m total

Get involved in yourlocal school’s activitiesBAYSGARTH Secondary School is invitingparents and carers to get involved in theirch i l d re n’s education.

A special coffee morning will be held onTuesday, July 5, for people whose children are inYears 7, 8 and 9 at the school.

The event is also open to families whosechildren are in Year 6 at primary school and areset to attend Baysgarth in September.

The event is aimed to encourage more parentsto find out ways in which they can volunteertime to the school and build up relationshipswith teachers, staff and governors.

The coffee morning will take place between9.30am and 11.30am at the schools LearningResource Centre.

Are you the next star?A SCUNTHORPE optician is launching itsannual competition to find the Sound BarrierStar of 2011.

The event, run by Specsavers in conjunctionwith charity partner Hearing Dogs for DeafPeople, targets the one in seven people in theUK that have some form of hearing loss.

Anyone can nominate themselves, a friend orfamily member by visiting the Scunthorpe storeon High Street to collect an entry leaflet.

The closing date for entries is Friday.For every entry to the awards, Specsavers

will donate £5 to Hearing Dogs for DeafPe o p l e.

The charity helps transform the lives of itsdog-owners by alerting them to sounds.

Each student whotook part in thesessions with Kevproduced their owncomic strip by the endof it and took themh o m e.

Kev also drew acaricature of everystudent taking partand presented them asa souvenir of theoccasion.

All students whoattended the sessionsenjoyed the activityand proved that eachand every one of themcould draw.

The charity’s biggestfundraiser of the yearwill be held all acrossthe UK on Friday,September 30.

People from everycorner of the countrywill hold a coffeemorning on the sameday, with donationsgoing to MacmillanCancer Support.

With this year’sevent just threemonths away, thecharity is calling for

Last year, the event’s43,000 coffee morninghosts helped to raiseover £8 million forpeople living withc a n c e r.
