A bundle of items are open for closed bidding ahead of the pink fundraiser, which will be held once again at Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Resort on Saturday, July 23. An autobiography signed by Irish professional boxer Barry McGuigan is set to pack a punch on the night. Dubbed “The Clones Cyc- lone”, he became a world featherweight champion in 1985. Organiser Paul Hope said: “I’ve sorted out most of the table plans and a few tickets are still on sale. I’m giving people until the end of this week to book tickets. “If people want to come they will have a great night and the money goes to good local causes – McMillan Nurses, Ward 18 at Scunthorpe Gen- eral Hospital and Lindsey Lodge Hospice. “On the night we will have an auction, a raffle, stand-up bingo, plus another thing that remains a surprise. “We just hope to raise as much money as possible. To date, the Pink Ball has helped raise £23,675.” Paul Hope and his daughter Charlie set up the annual fun- draiser in 2007 in memory of Paul’s wife, Diane, who died aged 48 in November 2006 after a ten-year battle with breast cancer. Also in the auction is a Tottenham Hotspur shirt signed by Gareth Bale and a Spurs away shirt signed by the full Tottenham Hotspur team. And any football fan would love to get their hands on a World Cup football, signed by 2010 World Cup final referee Howard Webb, which comes complete with a signed photograph and signed red and yellow referee cards. For the younger audience, there is a tour programme signed by children’s TV stars The Chuckle Brothers, and for fans of ITV2’s award-win- ning show The Only Way Is Essex, bids can be placed on a picture of some of the cast, signed by Mark, Lauren, Lydia and Arg. Paul said: “It’s a good night. A special coffee morning will be held on Tuesday, July 5, for people whose children are in Years 7, 8 and 9 at the school. The event is also open to families whose children are in Year 6 at primary school and are set to attend Baysgarth in September. The event is aimed to encourage more parents to find out ways in which they can volunteer time to the school and build up relationships with teachers, staff and governors. The coffee morning will take place between 9.30am and 11.30am at the schools Learning Resource Centre. A SCUNTHORPE optician is launching its annual competition to find the Sound Barrier Star of 2011. The event, run by Specsavers in conjunction with charity partner Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, targets the one in seven people in the UK that have some form of hearing loss. Anyone can nominate themselves, a friend or family member by visiting the Scunthorpe store on High Street to collect an entry leaflet. The closing date for entries is Friday. For every entry to the awards, Specsavers will donate £5 to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. The charity helps transform the lives of its dog-owners by alerting them to sounds. Kev F Sutherland worked with two groups of 30 youngsters at Baysgarth School, in Barton-Upon-Humber. The artist lists providing work to a large number of world famous publications on his CV. This portfolio includes providing comic strips to The Beano, Doctor Who Adventures, Match and many more. Each student who took part in the sessions with Kev produced their own comic strip by the end of it and took them home. Kev also drew a caricature of every student taking part and presented them as a souvenir of the occasion. All students who attended the sessions enjoyed the activity and proved that each and every one of them could draw. A SPECTACULAR summer fair and car boot sale will take place next month in aid of the Breast Cancer Care Unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The event will be held on Sunday behind Blyton Ice-cream Parlour at Old Hall Farm in High Street, Blyton. The fair will include a whole host of trade stalls, a tombola, activities and games. Visitors can also rumble through the jumble at the car boot sale. Pitches are available and all pitch fees will be donated to the Breast Cancer Unit. Bag lots of bargains In the courts Benjamin Edward Curtis, 23, of St Paul’s Gardens, Ashby, was found guilty at North Lincolnshire Magistrates’ Court of failing to deliver to the Secretary of State part of the registration document containing details relating to the transfer of a vehicle. He was fined £175 and ordered to pay a victims’ surcharge of £15 and costs of £60. MACMILLAN Cancer Support has announced the date for this year’s “World’s Biggest Coffee Mor ning” fundraiser. The charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year will be held all across the UK on Friday, September 30. People from every corner of the country will hold a coffee morning on the same day, with donations going to Macmillan Cancer Support. With this year’s event just three months away, the charity is calling for local fundraisers to get involved. Last year, the event’s 43,000 coffee morning hosts helped to raise over £8 million for people living with cancer. This year Macmillan Cancer Support is hoping that even more money will be raised.
