Southern Indiana• 2 daughters Averie & Aubrie

• 1st year at CKS, taught 1st grade at IPS #55

• Hometown: Valparaiso, IN• Graduated from Indiana University

Take Home Craft• Please let your child decorate the

bear and write name on back• Color, paint, glue beads, cheerios,

lace, etc.

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early

Literacy Skills)• No regular classes Sept. 17 & 18• Screening assesses

– Initial Sound Fluency, Letter Naming Fluency, Word Use Fluency

– Oral Counting, Number Identify, Missing Number, Quantity Discrimination, Next Number, Number Facts

– Personal information• Benchmark assessments Dec. & May

– Phoneme Segmentation Fluency, Nonsense Word Fluency

• Progress Monitoring throughout the year

Handwriting-D’Nealian• Best handwriting method to ease

them into cursive for the upper grades.

• Handouts on letter formation in packets

Language Arts and Alphatime

• Scott Foresman Series-phonological awareness, high frequency words, writing, grammar

• Alphatime-letter people, letter recognition and phonics

Math and Manipulatives

• Saxon math series-very hands on• Work with math manipulatives in

the classroom• Number recognition, patterns, +/-,

measuring, graphing…much more!

Religion and Mass• Faith First Series-cover a chapter a

week• Mass-attend the first Wednesday

each month, beginning in September, and holy days.

Homework• Beginning- Oct. 5• Packet sent home Mondays return

Friday • One activity/worksheet per night• Scholastic-order forms go home

once a month

Field Trips• 2 Per Year• Children’s Museum (Feb.)• Indianapolis Zoo (May)• Please join us if possible!

Arrival and Dismissal• Half Day Students- pick up on

Crittenden at 10:50• Full Day Students-car rider,

aftercare, walker (please note on sign in sheet)

• Friday 8-21-09-stand in line with child until pick up

Let’s meet!• You are invited to bring your child

to meet his/her teacher tomorrow morning 8-20-09 from 8-10am.

• They may bring their supplies and backpack and meet for about 10 minutes.
