Dear Families,
Hokey Pokey
As I walked into the staffroom yesterday morning with a little jig and a loud, “Welcome back”, someone said…
“It’s a little like the Hokey Pokey”. I giggled and continued on… “you put your whole self in, you put your whole
self out, you put your whole self in and shake it all about”. So… instead of Remote/Flexible Learning/Onsite
Learning, I’m terming the whole event as the Hokey Pokey and day by day we are told if we are putting our
whole self in or our whole self out. Humour aside, thank you to everyone who continues to walk with us
through this world changing event. It is becoming very clear that together is definitely better and whether we
are ‘in’ or we are ‘out’, encouraging everyone around us, being kind and following the current regulations is key
for our community to rise stronger.
Please remember that there are strict guidelines around access to the school grounds. Access is limited to only
essential visitors. If you need to collect anything from the school, you must call the office and we will make
arrangements for this to be sent home with your child. All payments and event consents can be done online or
via a quick call to the office. We are obviously being directed to have as few people as possible coming onsite.
Please help us by supporting this routine.
Parent Guardian Opinion Survey WE WANT OUR FAMILIES TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian
Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted
amongst a sample of randomly selected families. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of
families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and
flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and
improvement strategies.
The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any
convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
30 per cent of parents are invited to participate and this is open until Friday 3rd September. Please ensure
you action this asap if you have received this email.
REMINDER: Curriculum Day – Friday 20th
August
Term Three Curriculum Day – English and CUST (Cultural Understanding and Safety Training)
Last term school council ratified our Term Three Curriculum Day for Friday 20th August. We will be using this
day to continue our work in developing all staff in the area of reading which is underpinned by a strong
evidenced based approach. The second half of the day, all staff will complete the Cultural Understanding and
Safety Training to increase understanding of Koorie culture, history and experience to ensure a strong
foundation for culturally inclusive practices.
Our Koorie Education Support Officer has been booked since the beginning of July for this important training
which all Government schools must undertake. Our families have made early arrangements since this has been
on our calendar since the end of Term Two and despite the ‘Hokey Pokey’ as I alluded above, we are unable to
shift this date. This training has already been shifted from last year’s first lockdown period. Again, thank you
for your understanding in this crazy world that we work to operate in.
Child safety!
Children have the right to be safe and protected, including at school. Wandong Primary School is committed to
keeping children safe. Child abuse, and arrangements that allow it to occur, will not be tolerated at our school.
Please take the time to read our relevant policies and information surrounding Child Safe Standards, which
can be found on our public website. Please be aware that you can contact David Warren (Assistant Principal),
Jessica Woods (Coordinator in charge of Student Wellbeing) or me as Principal at any time through the office.
In our role as the schools Child Safety leaders, it is our responsibility to ensure that we provide authoritative
advice, raise awareness and ensure all staff have the relevant training.
Chocolates… HELP – can you please sell another box?
Please, please let the office know if you are able to take on another chocolate box to sell. We desperately need to
move these asap.
HEAD LICE
The school has been recently notified that a number of parents are having to treat their
children for head lice.
The Department of Education and Training regulations state that students should not re-
turn to school until after a recognised corrective treatment has been commenced.
Please check your children’s hair regularly.
