GRAND DONATION: A $15,000 cheque was hand-ed over to the Angelman Society from Kelsey's at the newBurloak location. On Saturday, April 26 several hundredpeople attended the VIP Grand Opening party for the newBurloak Kelsey’s restaurant, all in aid of the CanadianAngelman Syndrome Society (CASS). CASS is the nationalcharity that provides a support network for families learn-ing to cope with Angelman Syndrome — a genetic disor-der caused by an abnormality of the 15th chromosome.The condition causes a significant physical and cognitivedevelopmental delay which is very severe making inde-pendent life impossible. Angelman syndrome is not wellknown due to two main factors: (1) the syndrome is a newgenetically diagnosed syndrome and (2) the low occur-rence rate. CASS is a very small charity that receives min-imal funding, but serves many families across Canada.TheAngelman network is headed by Heidi Blackburn ofOakville and several "angels" live in the Oakville-Burlington area. Red Cross merges in Halton The Canadian Red Cross Oakville,

Burlington and North Haltonbranch councils have merged, creat-ing one council for Halton Region.

“We are excited about the oppor-tunity to work together as one strongand viable Red Cross in Halton,” saidCouncil President Pat Gaudet.

The community branch officeslocated in Oakville, Milton andBurlington will remain unchanged.

The move will allow the councilto serve the entire region with effi-ciency and combined skills, experi-ence and knowledge.

Red Cross branch council mem-bers play an advisory role to branchstaff and volunteers in assessing com-munity needs, monitoring servicedelivery and supporting local fundrais-ing and public relations activities.
