Two air shows are set for Ocean City in September. The
country’s leading stunt plane pilots and sky divers will
perform an exciting two hour Aerobatic Air Show over the
beach on Sun., Sept. 16. The display will be visible from 6th
to 14th Sts. on the boardwalk and may be viewed from that
location or the beach starting 1 p.m.
In addition to the amazing stunt maneuvers, there will
be military demonstrations.
On Sat., Sept. 15th, the Ocean City Airport Assn. holds
its 21st annual Air Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the
Municipal Air Port, 26th and Bay Ave.
The Airport grounds will be packed with unusual air-
planes. There will be an exciting model airplane demon-
stration, banner pick-up, exhibit of World War ll airplanes
and other aeronautic displays. There will be a paper
airplane contest for children and crafts and food booths.

January 1st, a quiet time in most com-
munities, is a busy day for this family

patronize the City’s First Night New
Year’s Eve Celebration and stay over
night in accommodations are looking for
something to do.
First Day at the Beach and First Day
in the Downtown fill the void for them
and area residents.
Activities begin at 11 a.m. January 1
with entertainment in front of the Music
Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace.
A 5K Boardwalk Run starts 1 p.m. at the
Music Pier. Entry fee is $20. All runners
receive a T Shirt while they last. Registra-
tion begins at noon the day of the race at

First Night Long Sleeved Shirts will be
on sale for $20 in front of the Music Pier.
The shirts will feature a replica of every
First Night Admission button since the
event started 20 years ago. Proceeds
benefit First Night programs.
A First Dip in the Ocean is set for 2
p.m. at the 9th St. Beach. About 3,000
enthusiastic bathers usually show up
for the spirited and brief encounter
with the ocean.
All bathers receive a “Beach Nut”
Certificate signifying they have braved
the chill waters.
Shoppers will be able to kick off the
New Year with First Day In the Down-
town along the center-city Asbury Av-
enue business district. Most stores will
open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., some earlier
at 10 a.m. Asbury Avenue is noted for its
many, unusual specialty stores, galleries
and restaurants.

First Night, Ocean City’s New Year’s Eve celebration,
offers a variety of entertainment for families and indi-
viduals at just $14 a person.
The holiday gala features 70 entertainment programs at
central locations from 4 p.m. till midnight. There are fire-
works at midnight, weather permitting.
“Where else can you find such varied and enjoyable
entertainment for just $14? The only place to enjoy such
an event at the New Jersey shore is Ocean City,” says
First Night chair person, Michele Gillian. “Ocean City is
the place to be on New Year’s Eve.”
Opening ceremonies will be held 4 p.m. at the Music
Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. It will include a
ribbon cutting and greeting by City officials, entertain-
ment by a lively youth ensemble and more.
A First Night admission button will entitle bearer ac-
cess to Wonderland Amusement Park from 5 to 9 p.m. and
Gillian’s Miniature Golf from 4 to 9 p.m.
The entertainment program features events for every age
group. For a complete program and information on sales lo-

Refreshment will be available at the Civic Center, 6th and
Boardwalk; High School Cafeteria, 6th and Atlantic Ave.,
featuring a Taste of Ocean City ; Ocean City Senior Cen-
ter, 17th and Simpson Ave., with specialties by Yanni; the
Primary School, 6th and West Ave., and St. Peter’s Church,
8th and Central Ave., featuring Boardwalk fare. Numerous
Ocean City restaurants will be open New Year’s Eve.
Parking will be free in all Ocean City Municipal lots.
Jitney Service will be provided from 5 p.m. until mid-
night for button holders, operating continuously between
sites starting at the Transportation Center, 9th and
Haven Ave., 7th St. Parking Lot and 17th and Central Ave.
All who buy First Night admissions buttons will be given
a program book with details about site locations, parking
and the jitney service.
First Night has an Angel Fund for those who can’t

Over 150 Street Rods will be exhibit-
ed in Ocean City Sept. 7-9. An array of col-
orful vehicles from throughout the East
Coast will be displayed on the Boardwalk
and at the 5th Street Parking Lot during
the 38th Annual Shore Rod Run.
Cars will be parked at the 5th Street
Sports and Civic Center parking lot from
noon Fri., Sept. 7 till noon Sun., Sept.9.
There will be a boardwalk display of ve-
hicles on Sat., Sept. 8 from noon till 4 p.m.
A street rod is any car manufactured
prior to 1964 that’s been modified
with more modern parts. Owners are
creative about how they enhance their
vehicles and often decorate with color-
ful, painted designs.
There will be a craft show at the Music
Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, on
Sat., Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admis-
sion is free. A fashion show is set for
Saturday at 1:30 p.m. inside the Music
Pier auditorium, featuring clothing from
Gabrielle’s of Ocean City. Admission is
free and the event is open to all.
The Van-Dells will entertain at the
Music Pier on Saturday at 8 p.m. The
Band specializes in the hits of the 50’s
and 60’s. Admission is $20, the public

The 17th Trail of Two CitiesRun/Walk between Ocean City
and Somers Point will “break
new ground” this year.
The race/walk will be over
the new, $400 million causeway
recently completed between the
two Cities. Participants will be
able to get a good look at the
Bay and a good look back at
Ocean City as they negotiate
the new super span on their
way to Somers Point.
The event begins 8 a.m., Nov.
3rd at the Ocean City Transpor-
tation Center, 10th and Haven
Ave. and concludes at JFK Park
in Somers Point. The Causeway
will be closed to vehicles from 8
a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Runners will compete in vari-
ous age groups from 9 years to
70 plus, male and female. Medals
will be awarded to the top three
finishers in each age group.
There will be special awards to
the male and female with the
best over-all times.
Walkers will participate for
the opportunity to take in the
sights, snap photos and enjoy a
relaxed workout. No pets, skate
boards, bikes or roller blades
will be allowed because of insur-
ance restrictions.
Pre-registration rates for 2011
were $25 if received by Oct. 28
and $30 the day of the race. No
mail-ins were accepted after
Oct. 28. Immediate families of
up to four registered for a dis-
counted price of $60. The com-
mittee is currently determining
rates for this year which may be
slightly increased.
Same day registration
starts 7 a.m. at the Ocean City
Transportation Center, 10th
and Haven Ave. Packet pick-up
and late entry will also be con-
ducted at the Transportation
Center. Buses will be available
at the finish line at JFK Park
in Somers Point to transport
runners to the start before the
race from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Buses will also transport run-
ners back to Ocean City at the
conclusion of the race.
The finish and awards ceremo-
ny will be held at JFK Park after
all participants have completed
the course. Shirts are guaran-
teed to first 300 pre-registrants or
while supplies last. Free refresh-
ments will be available at the
conclusion of the event.

Ocean City celebrates one of its
most popular events, the Indian Summer
Weekend, for the 38th time Oct. 6-8.
Centerpiece of the event is the mile-long
Fall Block Party that extends from 5th to
14th Sts. on Asbury Ave. on Sat., Oct. 6. and
attracts more than 40,000 visitors.
Over 350 juried crafters from through-
out the east coast participate in the block
party. An array of hand made products are
featured. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A huge fireworks display is scheduled
following the block party. The fireworks
are fired from a barge off the 9th St.
Beach at 9:30 p.m.
Block party events include a variety
of foods. There is a popular Greek Food
Festival that has been featured at the
event every year since it began 38 years
ago. Seafood, ribs, hot dogs, pizza, soft
pretzels, bagels, baked goods and funnel
cakes are offered and more.
Bands, clowns and others entertainers
are featured along the block party route.
There are free pony rides for children
at the Tabernacle grounds 6th and As-
bury Ave. from 1 to 4 p.m.
Public Service displays for non-profit
organizations are set up on 9th St. be-
tween Asbury and Central Avenues.
In addition to the block party, there is a
popular seafood center at the Music Pier,
Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, Oct. 6-8,
featuring local vendors. Ocean City mer-
chants hold table sales on the Boardwalk
and along Asbury Ave. between 6th and
13th Sts. during the weekend.
The second Annual Ocean City Board-
walk Music Festival at the Ocean City
Music Pier and on the Boardwalk is set
for Sat., Oct.6.
Live music starts at 4 p.m. with two
stages of continuous music on the
Boardwalk and inside the Music Pier.
The band pauses for the fireworks dis-
play and afterwards returns to the Mu-
sic Pier stage for a Bubba Mac Reunion
Jam until 11 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 7, the festival features
live Reggae music with local and
regional bands from 1 to 9 p.m. at the
historic Music Pier.

OVER 400 CORVETTE CARS will be
displayed on the Ocean City Boardwalk on
Sunday, Sept. 23 starting at 11:30 a.m. The au-
tos will date back to the Corvette’s first model
in 1953 and extend to the present.
The show is one of the largest in the East
with Corvette owners from Pennsylvania,
Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey partici-
pating plus scattered entries from as far away
as Ohio and Indiana and Florida. The show is
held rain or shine.
Registration is held from 8 a.m. till 10 a.m.
at the Ocean City Airport, 26th and Bay Ave.,
on Sunday morning. The Ocean City Humane
Society and Food Cupboard will be accepting
donations at that location.
Cars depart for the Boardwalk at approxi-
mately 11 a.m. and park there till 4 p.m. The
line of Corvettes extends from 7th to 10th
Streets and beyond on the Boardwalk.
There will be a special themed display in
front of the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moor-
lyn Terrace, featuring Corvettes. The Corvette
Club will be headquartered at that location
and offer T Shirts for sale.
The Ocean City Humane Society will also
have a display in front of the Music Pier.
Volunteers will be selling items and collect-
ing donations to support the award winning,
“no-kill” shelter. All animals brought to the
facility are either found a home or given one
at the Humane Society.
There will be an awards ceremony at 3:30
p.m. in front of the Music Pier. The cars will
be on the boardwalk until 4 p.m.
Proceeds from registration fees benefit
local charities. The show is sponsored by the
Boardwalk Corvettes. For more information
