Is Your Classroom ready for ICT?

Many of us do not have access to computer labs, so are limited to our classrooms.

In your classroom, you will need:• Computer• broadband, • speakers, • projector, • screen • curtains.

But you can do it with less….

What you need from your IT guru

o Broadband that works

o Unblocked access to you tube etc

o VLC media player (free) instead of Windows Media Player (Shift ‘s’ for still image)

Reasons for using it

1. source of free texts2. short and sharp

snippets3. student engagement4. focus on the thinking,

not the texts 5. enrichment of the

learning experience6. to raise achievement

and understanding

Ideas for learning activitiesThese are basic (and possibly familiar) ideas that can be

adapted easily for class work using ICTo Graphic organisers o Critical Literacy and other thinking questions o Online puzzles

As Text

o For film and visual language you-tube is a great source of texts.

o Students do not realise that texts have complex messages

Advantages of You-tubeo You-tube works better as they hear it from

‘experts’o Focused on purpose rather than techniques

or story (Critical Literacy)o Allows close reading of textso non-verbal storytellingo Audience and manipulation by creators

easier to identify and discuss
