Noise level A-weighted Leq,24h (dBA) (L = Level and eq = equivalent) Indicator that cumulates all noise variations over a 24-hour period

Why use an indicator: • Mathematical expression used to represent a complex situation that varies in

time and space • Makes it possible to measure and compare the sound environment at different

geographical points, at different times of the day or year • Represents the impact of noise on a person’s health and discomfort

2017: Noise impacts (study area at more than 300 metres from autoroute 20)

Area delimited by Brock, Carnavon, Ballantyne and Avon: • Noise from trains passing on CN railways is not the main source of noise • Passenger trains are barely or not audible • Freight trains are audible but noise is similar to ambient noise • Night: freight trains are more easily audible at night since noise levels from

roads are reduced

increased since before the project • Assess the effectiveness of mitigation measures (noise barriers)
