Impact of Tempus and Erasmus+/ CBHE in Palestine

3

Palestine

• Since its inception, old Tempus and Erasmus+ now have played an important role in thePalestinian higher education sector. Most academic institutions have successfully benefited andare participating in implementing Tempus and E+ projects. Since 2002, Palestine hasparticipated in Tempus and E+ with 41 CBHE projects. Erasmus+ is viewed as a mechanismfor modernizing higher education in Palestine.

• The Tempus and Erasmus programme have contributed as well to overcome the existingfragmentation between the Palestinian institutions themselves, creating a strong inter‐universitynetwork. As a result, several Tempus projects include institutions both from the West Bank andfrom Gaza.

• Palestinian HEIs have also seized the opportunity to work together with other higher educationinstitutions in the region, in areas of common interest such as reforming higher educationstructures and systems, student services, internationalization strategies, service learning andinstitutional autonomy.
