Nanotechnology Foretold

Concept first introduced by

American physicist Richard P. Feynman (1918-1988).

What is Nanotechnology ??

Nanotechnology is basically a science of materials which has the following features:

i. Research and development at molecular

or atomic levels, with bond lengths ranging between 1 to 100 nanometres.

ii. Invention of devices, and products which have special functions or properties because of their small size.

iii. Ability to control or manipulate the matter on molecular or atomic scale.

iv. Nanomaterials promise to revolutionize medicine and are increasingly used in drug delivery or tissue engineering applications.

v. Nanotechnology is also used to make the changes in different species , whether it is a living or non living .

vi. These changes make them different from their actual behavior.

vii. Some bring positive changes in the species, which increases their efficiency.

viii.Basically, nanotechnology the ‘nano’ refers not to a thing but to the scale at which the technology takes place

Tools in nanotechnology

The main tools used in nanotechnology are three main microscopes :

Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)Atomic Force Microscope (AFM)Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM)

Why do some people think it’s bad ?

Many nano particles show unique chemical, electrical, optical, and physical properties. The great diversity of nano particles types have made it difficult for scientists to make general statements about the potential safety hazards that nano particles might show towards living organisms.

Ms. McCann tried this, and found the skin around her eyes felt soft and looked shiny at first but no lasting effects. She did not find it comfortable.

L’Oreal RevitaLift EyeThe benefits in this product is supported by the

nanotechnology so it helps the skin and gives vitamin D.

What are nanotechnology Socks ?

Nanotechnology socks contain

nano particles of silver. These

particles help kill the bacteria that makes our feet

smell. Many people with

smelly feet will benefit from this

technology.

Tissue Engineering

Nanotechnology can help reproduce or repair damaged tissue. “Tissue engineering” makes use of artificially stimulated cell proliferation by using suitable nanomaterial-based scaffolds and growth factors. It combines biology, medicine, engineering and materials science to develop tissues that restore, maintain or enhance tissue function.
