Module One: The Subconscious Mind
Welcome to the program that's going to teach you about something very powerful, something
very important: habits of enhancing your mind power. And I'm going to share eight of them
with you. Eight habits of enhancing your mind power, and let's just jump right in.
This is module one, as you know, and it's about the subconscious mind -- probably my favorite
topic in the entire world, the subconscious mind, because that's where you can get access to
your true power, and as a hypnotherapist I'm always interested in ways of helping people
enhance their lives by learning more about the power of their subconscious minds and by
harnessing that power.
So first of all: what is the subconscious mind? Well, according to psychologist Pierre Janet, the
subconscious mind is a powerful awareness that lies under layers of critical thought, functions.
So it's not a person's current focal awareness, and there is a limit to what can be stored in an
individual's conscious focal awareness.
So the brain stores that knowledge and previous experiences in the subconscious mind. The
subconscious mind holds details that the conscious mind forgot long ago. So the subconscious
mind or the subconscious -- same thing -- is a repository for everything a person sees, hears,
and any other information the mind collects but is not able to consciously process into
something meaningful.
The subconscious mind is like the bottom of the iceberg. You know we always say, "Well,
that's just the tip of the iceberg." Well, the subconscious mind is the bottom of the iceberg.
It's like the part below the surface of the water. The bigger part, the majority of the iceberg
that you don't see when you look at it from the surface. The surface part that you see would
be the conscious mind.
If we're looking at an analogy, we would say that the iceberg is an analogy for the mind. The
tip of it is the conscious mind -- a very small part of it, but it's very obvious. The bottom of the
iceberg, the bigger part of it, the part that's affected by the current, the part that's actually
allowing it to move around, is the subconscious mind.
Now, there are four classic ways to retrieve information from the subconscious mind. First,
auto-suggestion. Auto-suggestion is the practice of giving your subconscious mind information
to help you develop specific beliefs, and this includes speaking or writing acclimations and
using hypnosis to suggest thoughts and beliefs.
However, the primary reason auto-suggestion fails for people who practice it is lack of
emotion. In order for the suggestion to override previous programming, it must be strong. I
say strong. I mean, very direct and full of emotion. So use your conscious mind to decide what
your goals are and then choose emotionally-powerful affirmations. In other words, not
something that you're not really excited about.
Choose something that you want to work on. Why would you want an affirmation that you're
not excited about? Why would you want to move towards something that doesn't get you
really into it? So sit in a comfortable chair or just a place that's comfortable and meditate until
you're in a trance-like state. If you've listened to my programs before you understand how to
meditate, or perhaps you have your own way to meditate.
From that trance-like state you can repeat your affirmations several times. Now, don't do this
now. Do this some other time when you have time available and you're not listening to a
program. I want you to take this information and use it later when you have time and you're
not paying careful attention, because that's what you should be doing right now: paying
careful attention to what I'm saying. Over time, your subconscious mind will absorb the
affirmations as true, and it's going to work to make your reality match your belief.
You see, the subconscious mind at the conscious mind don't want to have a disconnect. So if
you hold something as true, if your conscious mind is saying, "It's true, it's true, it's true," your
subconscious mind is going to find a way to make it true. Keep saying, "I'm rich, I'm rich, I'm
rich," and your subconscious mind is going to find a way to make you rich because it doesn't
want that disconnect.
Now, this step is what many consider an important part of manifesting. However, it often
takes time to overcome limiting beliefs, negative thoughts, years of self-doubt. So don't
expect things to just change overnight. You've got to keep working on it.
I told you there are four classic ways to retrieve information from your subconscious mind.
The next is auto-inquisition. Auto-inquisition is similar to auto-suggestion, except that you use
your subconscious mind to give it questions, rather than giving it information.
So, the best way to use this technique is during the hypnagogia state, or the state between
awareness and sleep. Now, during this state, lucid dreaming, astral projection, and hypnotic
suggestions are possible. However, some people have used this state to access information in
their subconscious minds.
These are all uses of that state. I'm simply talking about the time between the time you're
awake and the time you're asleep. These are coming or going; either you're falling asleep or
just waking up and you're in that in-between zone. You're not quite awake, not quite asleep.
It's all I'm taking about with that big word, "hypnagogia". Some people have used this state to
access information from their subconscious minds. Now, notable people who have used this
technique include, of course, Napoleon Hill.
When I said "auto-suggestion", if you've read his book Think and Grow Rich, that may have
rung a bell for you because he talks a lot about the power of auto-suggestion. Also, Deepak
Chopra, Beethoven, Bach, Thomas Edison, and a lot of people have used this technique.
In order to keep himself in this state, Edison sat in his favorite chair holding a brass ball over a
brass bowl, and as he started to doze off, his hand would relax and drop the ball into the bowl.
The sound would wake him up, but he wouldn't be fully conscious. In that state that he was in,
he could ask him subconscious brain questions about his current situation and the
subconscious mind could reveal information to him.
So whatever he was working on, he could sit with a brass ball in a chair and he would start to
doze off and it would slip out of his hand because his hand would open a little bit. It would fall
into the brass bowl and he would wake up just enough to realize, "Hey, I'm conscious, but I've
also got access to my subconscious mind." That was very resourceful for him. He was able to
then work on things that he wanted to work on -- we all know how successful Thomas Edison
was.
Now, the next way to retrieve information from your subconscious mind is visualization.
Visualization is the process of seeing images in your conscious mind in order to influence your
subconscious mind. In that sense it's like auto-suggestion, except that you're using images
rather than words. Visualization is more complex because than auto-suggestion because in
order for it to be effective, you have to hold the image in your mind rather than repeating a
litany of words.
The images also have to be as detailed as possible. Over time you're going to want to imagine
a full experience, including sights, sounds, smells, sensations, colors, everything down to the
smallest detail. Just like auto-suggestion, though, visualization does not work overnight
usually. I like to say nothing's impossible, so it can happen, but it usually doesn't. It usually
gets practiced over time, and the visualization should become richer with detail at each
session.
Your visualization should also be attached to a strong emotion. Remember that -- it's a key
element in all of this. Now, if you have difficulty with visualization, start small and work your
way up. First start with shapes, then add letters, then words, then colors, and finally moving
into a full synthetic experience.
So I'm going to go ahead and walk you through a visualization so you can get the gist of this.
Now, if you were doing anything, such as operating a motor vehicle or running, biking,
anything like that, listen to this later. This is not something you want to listen to now because
it can cause you to get very relaxed.
Only continue with this module right now if you're sitting or lying down in a comfortable
position or you're stable. In other words, if you were to lean to the left or the right, you
wouldn't fall out of anything.
You're not doing anything; you're just sitting or lying down with nothing else to do. If you're
doing something else, then listen to the rest of this recording later, because I'm going to guide
you through a visualization before we go on with the rest of this module. Be sure to only be
sitting or lying down when you listen to the rest of this module.
So, if you still listening, my understanding is that you're sitting or lying down and we are ready
to continue. I'd like you to just close your eyes and relax and just focus on something that you
want to focus on. It doesn't have to be anything. It doesn't even have to be goal-oriented. I
just want you to get used to visualizing.
I want you to imagine something. Now, some people have difficulty seeing images in their
mind, and that's okay, because if you're one of those people then perhaps you can hear them,
or even taste something related to them, or smell something related to them. However you
related to your universe, I want you to use that right now. Perhaps you can hear the sounds.
Perhaps it's just a feeling, a physical sensation or an emotional feeling about what it is that
you want to visualize.
When I say "visualize", realize that you can use any of your senses or a combination of your
senses. Some people get really caught up when they hear "visualization". They think, "Oh my
goodness, I'm not seeing a picture. I'm not doing it right." That's not correct
What is correct is the way that you're doing it right that's fine for you. So just letting it clear.
It's going to be a short exercise. I just want you to get used to this. Just prime the pump.
If it has been a while since you've visualized then use this time to get re-introduced to it. If you
do it regularly, use this opportunity to take it up a notch, make it clearer, brighter, more crisp.
Make the sounds, smells, the tastes, whatever it is associated with it, make all that more clear
in your mind. Really enhance it right now.
If you're seeing something, make the colors crisp and sharp. If you're hearing something, make
it louder. If it's a taste or a smell or feeling on your body, or emotional feeling, enhance that
right now.
When I say a full synthetic experience, I mean that you're really not experiencing that right
now, are you? You're just imagining it. But make it full. Make this experience as close to reality
as possible.
Again, you don't have to imagine anything in particular. It doesn't have to be a new car, a new
house. We're just priming the pump. You can use this later for anything you want to use it for.
Imagining that new car or new house, that relationship, your life working better, whatever you
want to imagine.
Right now, at this moment, you're just using this technique to refine it, or, if it's your first time,
to get introduced to it. Just take a few moments to relax as I talk. Over time you're going to
want to get better at this, meaning you make it clearer, you make things more distinct, and
you also start focusing on things that you want to manifest in life. Things that you're working
on, goals that you have.
All right now, let's end this brief session. On the count of three you'll go back to full awakening
consciousness, remembering everything you've experienced in this visualization session. One -
- coming up, feeling very good. Two -- beginning to move now, beginning to stir, becoming
very aware of your surroundings and where you are. When I count to the next number, you'll
be wide awake, full of natural energy and ready for the rest of this module. All right now --
three.
Eyes open and wide awake. Take at least a half hour before doing anything, like driving a car
or jogging or riding a bike, or anything that involves you having to pay attention to what you're
doing. Let's continue with the module, because we've got more ground to cover.
The forth and final way to retrieve information from your subconscious mind is listening to
classical music. Now, I know. That's off the beaten path, isn't it? Classical music -- how could
that possibly be a technique? But it works for some people.
I'm giving you four possibilities here. Auto-suggestion was the first one, then auto-inquisition,
and then visualization -- we just finished that. Now, listening to classical music. There's
something about classical music. I was in a cab the other day and the cab driver had classical
music on, which is very unusual, but it reminded me of this technique that I discovered years
ago.
Music therapists have shown that listening to artists such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, awaken
higher brain functions, and they can also boost an individual's capacity for intelligent thought,
and increase creativity and intuition. This phenomenon is referred to as the Mozart effect.
Further studies found that listening to classical music increased children's scores on IQ tests.
Agriculturalists also found that classical music correlated with plants growing more quickly and
bearing more fruit.
So don't underestimate your ability to use classical music to enhance your ability to retrieve
information from your subconscious mind, and start that dialogue, open that door, so you can
get information from your subconscious minds. You can communicate with your subconscious
mind. Not just getting information, but also putting information in there. Positive information
that you want to have in there.
All right, so I don't need to give an example of classical music. I've named a few artists -- Bach,
Beethoven, Mozart -- and you can look into them, look into their music, and give it a shot. Play
classical music and focus on retrieving information from your subconscious mind and/or
putting information there.
Now, also realize that you can enhance your subconscious mind power by exercising it. A
morning session, for example, would consist of fifteen to twenty minutes of solo piano music,
such as Mozart or Beethoven, while visualizing your goal.
You can trade as much detail in the visualization as you want, and the music should not be too
loud, because this can distract your mind from the visualization. It should be just the right
volume. You'll learn this by experience, by what works for you.
Also, here's a suggested afternoon session that I think you might find very beneficial. As you
begin the process of enhancing your mind power, you may have to work in several sessions a
day. I know, I know, the whole "work" idea, but believe me: it pays off. As you become more
advanced, you may able to reduce the number of sessions and just increase the duration of
each one.
A fifteen- to twenty-minute string music session -- you're listening to string music such as Bach
or Handel, for example -- while you work with auto-inquisition. You're going to want to listen
to this module again to review what auto-inquisition is, but that can be very powerful.
With each auto-inquisition session, choose only one question that you want answered at the
time. Working with too many questions can overload the subconscious mind, causing it to
retreat and your conscious mind to come forward. That's not what you want during these
sessions.
Here's a suggested evening session: write two to three affirmations that you want to work on
and write them down or speak them out loud while looking in the mirror. Repeat those two,
three affirmations several times to help commit them to memory, and fall asleep repeating
those affirmations as you listen to soft classical music. Keep working with those affirmations
until you fully believe them, or until you've achieved your goal and you're ready to move on to
the next set of affirmations.
Speaking of moving on, the next module is conscious mind. We've covered the subconscious
mind. Next we're going to address the conscious mind, because so many programs like this
overlook the conscious minds. I mean the subconscious minds are the bottom of the iceberg,
isn't it? It's where all the action is. It's where everything's happening.
The conscious mind is very important too. You've got to get both in line with what you're
working on. So get ready to join me in module two as we talk about the conscious mind. I'm
Dr. Steve G. Jones, hoping you have an outstanding day.
Module Two: The Conscious Mind
Welcome back. Welcome to the module that’s going to teach you about the conscious mind, a
subject that is overlooked so much in programs like this because we usually focus on the
subconscious mind, but let’s take a look at the conscious mind because it’s a very valuable tool
once you understand how to harness its power.
So, first of all, what is the conscious mind? Well, the conscious mind is the part of the brain
that receives and interprets data received from the five senses. The conscious mind analyzes
the received data to form perceptions and beliefs. T
he conscious mind is responsible for the transportation of information from the conscious
mind itself to the subconscious mind or the unconscious mind, and there’s a disagreement,
I’ve got to tell you about this, there’s a disagreement among experts as to whether the
conscious mind allows the information to pass or not, and although some believe that the
conscious mind is the gatekeeper to stored information whether we remember it or not, there
are others who believe it is merely a filter for our perceptions.
Now, the conscious mind has the ability to train and control the subconscious mind to react in
a precise and controlled way. The conscious mind is also a tool for focused and effective mind
development. Combined with the subconscious mind, the conscious mind creates a force
known as mind power that is unlimited and can bring any circumstances or events into your
life. Now, the only force that limits your mind power would be your beliefs.
Now, when I work with someone hypnotically, I’m focusing on their subconscious mind. I’m
getting their conscious mind out of the way by putting them into hypnosis so I can just focus
on the subconscious mind, but hypnosis also affects the conscious mind/
Because after someone’s out of hypnosis then they start acting on things that come from their
subconscious mind and their conscious mind thinks that it’s just coming up with those ideas
right then and there, but actually it’s being fed from the subconscious mind, and that’s really
the way we do things anyway.
Whether they’re habits that help us like saving money or habits that hurt us like binge eating,
these usually come from the subconscious mind. They’re fed to the conscious mind. So that’s
how the conscious mind and the subconscious mind are both affected by hypnosis. The
subconscious mind or unconscious mind feeds information to conscious minds.
Now, how to you enhance your consciousness. The average person thinks 60,000 thoughts per
day. That’s a lot. You might think well, I just had five thoughts yesterday, but actually you had
about 60,000 thoughts. Most people have difficulty recalling 95% or more of what they think.
Could you imagine if you could remember every one of those 60,000 thoughts? It would be
overload and highly inefficient and also highly unnecessary.
So, this means that people who are not conscious of their consciousness are fine. They’re
normal. It’s okay. The majority of those 60,000 thoughts are mindless babble or internal self-
talk or just your mind doing things that take care of things, some housekeeping stuff that you
don’t really need to worry about. This is how information is transmitted from the conscious
mind to the subconscious mind and how empowering or limiting beliefs are formed.
Now, let’s talk about truth. The truth raises your consciousness while lies lower your
consciousness. Isn’t that interesting. Whatever you’re afraid to know lowers your
consciousness as well. Step on a scale to know how much you weigh or have a long talk with
your significant other about whether the relationship is working or not. Knowing exactly
where you stand makes it real and raises your consciousness.
You get to the truth of the matter. Also, how about connecting with nature. Now, I’m talking
about this under the idea of how you enhance your consciousness. One is getting to the truth.
That’s always good. Another is connecting to nature.
The first one I mentioned was understanding all these thoughts you have, these 60,000
thoughts you have, most of them being highly insignificant, or at least for your purposes they
are, but let’s get back to where we were, connecting with nature.
Go for a walk in the woods or on the beach. Connect with the elements. This brings awareness
to the moment. You may fall into a deep sense of peace and oneness with nature and if you
do that embrace it. It is your consciousness. How about meditation? When we talk about how
to enhance your consciousness, meditation is a great way.
Meditation is one of the best ways to enhance your conscious mind. Meditation teaches you
to stay in the moment by focusing on your breath and when you first begin it might be difficult
and that’s okay. Reigning in 60,000 or more thoughts is a large undertaking, after all, and as
your conscious awareness develops you’re going to feel more focused, disciplined and feelings
of joy.
Now, let’s go ahead and do a short guided mediation to enhance your conscious mind. Now,
you know that I don’t want you doing this if you’re operating a motor vehicle or jogging or
riding a bike or doing dishes or anything that requires you to focus on something.
I want you lying down or sitting down in a char that’s so safe that if you were to lean one way
or the other you wouldn’t fall out of it or lie down on the floor or on a bed or on a couch, but
never listen to any kind of meditation or hypnosis recordings while doing something that
requires your attention.
So, guess what, for the rest of this module once again, just like in the last module, if you are
doing something, listen to this module later when you’re not doing anything and you’re sitting
or lying down.
Okay, so my understanding is that if you’re still listening to me talking right now, you’re not
doing anything. You’re sitting or lying down because if you are doing something, you shouldn’t
be listening to this module right now. You should listen to it later.
So we’re going to do a short, guided meditation to enhance your conscious mind and then I’m
going to share with you the rest of this module, the rest of the information that I have to share
with you about the conscious mind, but first I’d like to help you enhance your conscious mind.
So sitting or lying down right now close your eyes and as you relax and unwind just take in a
deep breath. That’s right, just breathe in deeply through your nose, exhale through your,
another deep breath in through your nose.
Open your mouth slightly, exhale through your mouth, and then one more deep breath in
through your nose. Open your mouth slightly and when you’re ready exhale slowly and then
continue breathing easily, effortlessly and comfortably, and when you do these breathing
exercises it’s okay if you’re doing them at a different pace than I am.
Maybe you want to do them more slowly or more quickly and that’s fine, but right now you
should be breathing at your own normal pace, breathing in and you normal, automatically,
relaxing and as you relax I want you to focus on that idea of the iceberg.
The tip of the iceberg is above the water, the rest of it is below the water, below the surface of
the water and as you focus on this iceberg, realize that this represents your subconscious
mind, the bottom part does, and it also represents our conscious mind. That’s represented by
the top part. The part that you can see and you’re aware of all the time.
The bigger part is the subconscious mind, below the surface of your perception most of the
time. The smaller part that you’re always aware of when you’re awake is the conscious mind
and I’d like you to focus now on that top part of the iceberg, the part you can see. Just imagine
it, and if you don’t usually visualize, then perhaps you can just sense that it’s there. Focus on it
now and I want you to see both.
You’re able now to see below the water and see the entire iceberg and see above the water at
the same time, see the top of it, and I want you to see it all as one color. It’s your mind, it’s
your imagination, so choose a color. Any color you choose, but imagine it all one color. This
represents the oneness. This is all you. This is your mind. Together they make up you.
Your mind, conscious mind and subconscious mind, and I want you now to imagine that your
subconscious mind, the bottom of the iceberg is feeding energy up toward the top, toward the
conscious mind to enhance it, to make it more powerful, to give it more information, to
increase your memory, your ability to both recall information and to store it in the first place,
because this all has to do with retrieval. Your conscious mind retrieves information from your
subconscious mind.
So imagine the bottom of the iceberg sending up energy toward the top now to help it, to
enhance it, to improve it. That’s right, and as you continue relaxing, just imagine this process
continuing, your conscious mind being enhanced by your subconscious mind and realize the
connections between the two becoming more powerful so you’re able to retrieve information
more easily from your subconscious mind.
You’re also able to program your subconscious mind more easily with your conscious mind
cause they’re connected and the connection’s becoming more powerful now, much more
powerful with every word I speak that connection becomes more powerful and it stays that
way.
It stays that powerful and every day it becomes more powerful, and in just a few moments
you’re going to return from this brief meditation designed to enhance your conscious mind
and when you do you’ll be wide awake and full of natural energy, so coming up now to the
count of three, so that by the time I reach that final number you’ll be wide awake and full of
natural energy, ready to enjoy your day, the rest of your day.
It’s the end of your day, and you’re ready to unwind and relax, but either way you have a
renewed sense that you are a very powerful person and that your mind is very powerful and
works with itself to help you achieve your goals. You work with yourself. Alright, now coming
up very slowly so that by the time I reach the final number you’ll be wide awake and full of
natural energy.
One, coming up, feeling good. Full of natural energy. Feeling refreshed and rested. Two,
becoming more aware now. More aware of where you are, more aware of your surroundings,
beginning to move now, beginning to stir. At the count of the next number, you’ll be wide
awake, full of a natural energy, remembering everything that happened during this brief
session. Alright, now three, eyes open, wide awake.
Alright, now take about a half an hour before you do anything, before you drive a car, go for a
run or anything like that. Just relax for about a half an hour and as you do I’ve got some
information to share with you. We’re going to continue on now, module two, because I want
you to find and live your purpose.
That’s one of the things that’s really going to help enhancing your mind power pay off. When
you find your purpose and work toward it, you increase your happiness and as your happiness
increases, so does your consciousness. So I want you to realize that expressing gratitude is
very powerful. Expressing gratitude on a daily basis is a positive, fulfilling exercise and
practicing gratitude daily requires you to look at the things you’re grateful for.
We all have them, and after you state the obvious things, food, shelter, car, job, health,
whatever you have, then you have to think a little more about the things that you’re grateful
for, and these might include flowers, sunny days, the smell of freshly cut grass or the smile of
the stranger.
As you continue to practice gratitude you become more aware of things which you can be
grateful, things that are already happening that you can be grateful for, and the more aware
you are the more conscious you are, and this is why it’s important to enhance your
consciousness.
Now, realize that also along the lines of why it’s important to enhance your consciousness is
because you’ll have increased self-awareness. Enhancing your consciousness is a big step
toward enhancing your mind overall, and to enhance your mind you must become more self-
aware.
Your senses become more attuned and your intuition becomes sharper and human behavior,
yours included, tends to make more sense. Also, being aware of your own blind spots is
important to a personal growth.
The more self-aware you are the easier it is for you to manifest your goals and dreams
because your conscious mind and your subconscious mind start working together. So
enhanced mental clarity is also something that is important when it comes to enhancing your
consciousness.
That’s why it’s important because you can also get enhanced mental clarity. Everything in your
life starts to make sense on a whole new level. It’s almost as if someone turned a dial and
sharpened the focus on your life. Problem solving, or challenge resolution as I like to call it,
becomes easier, and the challenges you faced before seem trivial and easy to overcome.
Now, interestingly, as you continue to practice consciousness you may notice periods of
confusion followed by bouts of clarity and that’s okay. This is because each time you shift your
beliefs, there’s a period of confusion where the mind catches up to this new leap in reality and
the more conscious you become the less often this happens.
What else happens? Why else is it important to enhance your consciousness? Well, emotional
mastery. Consciousness and emotional intelligence are closely related and the more conscious
you become, the more you begin to understand why you feel the way you feel.
As you begin to understand your emotions, you find that you can control them and you start
to realize that with practice you can keep your mind focused on positive, happy thoughts and
as you focus you remain with positive and happiness and the thoughts that are positive and
the thoughts that are happy and the negative ones just slip away and your beliefs begin to
change, and as your limiting beliefs and negative beliefs fall away you make room for good
things and for joy to enter your life.
Starting to sound good, isn’t it? That’s right. That’s what you get when you start to work on
yourself. You also develop the ability to understand the emotions of others and you’re going
to develop a deep inner peace.
You’re going to feel centered, rooted, grounded, comfortable with yourself, comfortable with
others, comfortable with who you are, comfortable with who other people are, and although
meditation helps you feel this at first, without the practice of consciousness, the state is only
temporary. So consciousness and meditation work together to help you find this permanent
inner peace. Now there are other reasons also.
There are several more reasons to practice consciousness including improving your discipline,
improving your relationships, improving your health and fitness and determining your heart
centered powers such as courage and determination, also enhancing your consciousness helps
you manifest your dreams, so keep moving forward with this.
Now, in the next module, in module three, I’m going to share with you the idea that I have
about self awareness. This is something that’s become so powerful for me and I used to go to
meditation workshops and talk to yogis and gurus and so forth, and they would always talk
about self-awareness.
So I started to think, hmm, this must be really important if all of these spiritual people are
talking about self-awareness it must be really important. This was in the 1980s that IO really
go into this and it was.
It was tremendously important and it really paid off for me, so the next module I’m going to
share with you the ideas that I gathered since the 80s about self-awareness and how powerful
it can be for you in helping you design your life and gain mastery and enhance your mind
power.
So, join me in the next module as we talk about self-awareness, as you and I come to an
understanding together about how self-awareness, being aware of self-awareness can help
you. I’m Dr. Steve G. Jones, hoping you have an outstanding day.
Module Three: Self Awareness
Welcome back, welcome to the module that's going to teach you about self awareness,
something that I learned so long ago. It's been so powerful for me that I want to share with
you right now.
So, first of all, what does it mean to be self aware? Self awareness means that you have an
understanding of who you are and how you relate to the world, you understand your
emotions and why you feel the way you do, and you understand other people's emotions and
how your actions influence their emotions and you develop empathy.
Self awareness requires you to be mentally and emotionally present in all situations and with
conscious self awareness comes the ability to control your emotions. You can choose to
respond to outside stimuli or you can choose to keep your emotions in check.
You understand what you like and what you don't like, an aspect that greatly improves your
relationships being mentally and emotionally present in all situations means that you are
conscious of not only yourself, and what you want or need at that moment, but you're
conscious of how your circumstances affect the world around you.
So, what are some of the things that affect our ability to be self aware? First of all, our
upbringing, this is one of the most influential pieces to our self awareness and almost anything
else. Let's take a moment to look at it.
We are taught to behave in certain ways, we're giving an understanding of what is right and
wrong. Our beliefs about money, for example, stem from how we were raised. If your parents
believed that money was short and constantly told you that you couldn't do something
because there wasn't enough money in the budget, then you might develop limiting beliefs
and stop yourself from rising above what you know.
On the other hand, if you grew up with money, as they say, your perception may be that
money is always available and there's no need to stress or focus on lack. In either case the
emotional focus of your conscious mind feeds information to your subconscious mind, and
belief is developed.
Now, the belief that there is never enough money is constantly met by the consciousness and
subconscious mind because the subconscious mind works to make your reality match your
beliefs. It doesn't distinguish between positive and negative.
However, if you hold the belief in financial abundance, then you find it easier to come by
money than someone who constantly focuses on lack. You know my good friend Joe Vitale has
really helped me quite a bit with this and helped me clean up a lot of the language I use with
myself and a lot of the focus that I have in life.
You know you can always focus on this or that, on the "good", "bad", on how some things are
going to work out of how something's not going to work out and Joe has really helped shape
the way I talk to myself about what might happen or the future or what I look at or what I
don't look at because really, we don't know what's going to happen but we can create, in
some cases, what happens by focusing on it.
If you keep focusing on the gloom and doom, that can happen. If you keep focusing on what
might happen that's great, well that could happen. You can influence your environment
because the way you think is going to guide your actions in many cases. So becoming more
self aware in this regard has really helped me a lot.
Now I also want you to realize the media effects our self awareness. This one is perhaps one of
the most dangerous because we often tie our self worth to those images the media provides.
So, some of the things that effect our ability to be self aware, we've got to add in the media.
The media tells us what we should look like, what we should wear and what we either live up
to or don't live up to. How well we are doing in terms of looking like, what we're supposed to
look like and acting like what we are supposed to act like, whether we are attractive or not
and young people develop body issues because self esteem issues are tied into what the
media puts out there.
They lose their ability, young people lose their ability to fully understand their place in the
world because of these images they're seeing of how they should look, what they should be
like and lack of self awareness leads to low self esteem and often depression.
So how do you know if you have self awareness issue? Well, one of the best ways to tell if you
have an issue with this, yourself awareness, is to notice if others are always to blame for your
misfortunes. For example, do you blame your parents for a lack of money skills?
Do you blame your boss for passing you over for that promotion? Do you blame your spouse
when things go wrong at home or your significant other. Another trait those with self
awareness issues have is the inability to give and receive apologies.
Now, this isn't a permanent condition. If you notice this in yourself, realize that you can
change it in an instant just by desiring to change and doing things differently. Now, a person
who is unable to accept apologies will often believe the person apologizing isn't sincere and
they will expect that that person that continues apologizing and they will bring it up again and
again.
This person doesn't understand what is meant by accepting an apology and moving on. As a
result they damage relationships because of their need to rehash old arguments and these
individuals rarely apologize themselves, even when they should. If they do apologize, it's not a
real apology because they don't believe they have done anything wrong.
Now I'm talking about "them" as if it's "those" people, well, from time to time we can all fall
into that category. So if you find yourself in this category, the key to this module - the key to
life, is becoming self aware, realizing what's going on and taking steps to change it. So, how do
you become more self aware? "Hey Dr. Steve, the self awareness stuff sounds great, how do I
get more of it?"Let's go ahead and talk more about that. Well, self reflection is the first step to
becoming self aware.
You have to stop and really examine each situation for what it is, your behavior, their
behavior, what happened, you have to be willing to admit that you might have been wrong.
Some activities help with reflection, include meditation, yoga, qigong, or walking in nature.
Ask your friends to share their frustrations with you, you can learn a lot by just listening to
your friends and do your best to not interrupt while they are talking. Listen and take in
everything they say and then go back later and reflect on their comments. Over time you're
going to see how your behavior makes other people feel. Also, practice consciousness,
become more self aware.
The most effective way to become self aware is to practice consciousness because these two
go together hand in hand. There are many ways to practice consciousness, including
meditation, practicing gratitude, and connecting with nature. So, keep this in kind.
Now, how does being self aware help you enhance your mind power? Getting back to what
this program's all about. The more aware you are of what you want the more your mind
power can help you achieve it and one of the biggest reasons people struggle to manifest their
dreams is because they don't know what they want.
Let's face it, if you're looking for a house or a car or a significant other you don't really know
what you want. Well how is the universe supposed to provide anything? How is a Realtor, or a
car sales person, or your social groups supposed to provide anything if you're not clear about
what you want?
If you have a vague notion but not a specific enough emotion to know what you really want
then that's not really going to help you much. Through conscious self awareness you can
determine what you want so your subconscious has a clear goal to work toward. Realize that
self awareness helps you overcome limiting beliefs that hold you back.
Most people have had or still have a limiting belief in their life. Hey, they come up from time-
to-time, even for me, of course I'm not above any of this. From time-to-time that happens for
me, limiting beliefs are those beliefs that really aren't true but we still believe them despite
the fact that they are holding us back from our dreams.
Fear that there's not enough money to go around is a limiting belief, fear of success is a
limiting belief. The idea that people always cheat is a limiting belief. The idea that somehow
you aren't good enough is a limiting belief. None of these are true. You can make them true in
your mind, but they're not true in and of themselves. Once you are self aware enough to
figure out what your limiting beliefs are, well then you can start to overcome them.
So what I'd like to do right now is a meditation session with you just designed to make sure
you are on board with everything so far. We've talked about a lot of information so far. We've
talked about the subconscious mind, the conscious mind, and self awareness. I want to make
sure these ideas and concepts, that you really own them deep down inside. I'm talking about
in your subconscious mind.
So, let's go ahead and do a meditation session. You know the drill, if you're driving or
operating a bicycle or anything that requires you to be fully aware and doing things, don't
listen to the rest of this module now, listen to it later and move on to the next module for
now, because this is not something you listen to while you are doing things, for the rest of this
module.
The rest of this module is something you can listen to when you're relaxed, when you're
sitting in a chair where you're stable so if you were to lean to the left or the right you'd stay in
the chair or you're lying down on a bed or the floor or on the sofa, somewhere where you are
stable and no one's going to bother you.
So, this time we're going to do a little bit of a longer session. We've been doing about five
minutes or so, this one is going to be about ten minutes. So I want you to make sure you have
time to do this also.
So, my understanding is if you are still listening to this you are not doing anything else, except
sitting or lying down and listening to my voice, you have about ten minutes to do this where
no one is going to bother you. If you are doing anything else than please stop listening to this
recording, go on to the next module and come back to this one when you are sitting or lying
down.
There's not going to be any additional information at the end of this so you're not going to
miss anything if you skip to the next module, but it's just a meditation session designed to
really help you own the information so far about the conscious mind, the subconscious mind,
and self awareness.
All right, so what I'd like you to do is close your eyes if you're still listening, and just focus
inward. That's right, just relax your mind, focus inward, and as you do this I'm going to be
silent and every now and then I'm going to come back in and give you some words that are
going to guide you in this meditation. Guide you along the process of meditation on the
concepts you have learned so far.
So I want you now to focus on the information you've learned about the subconscious mind,
what your subconscious mind is. Remember auto suggestion? The idea of giving your subs
conscious mind information to help you develop specific beliefs. Remember auto inquisition?
Similar to auto-suggestion except that you ask your subconscious mind questions rather than
giving it information.
Visualization, the process of seeing images in your conscious mind. Remember the idea of
listening to classical music, that's right you can do this to enhance your ability to tap into the
power of your mind. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart.
Remember the idea of the morning session 15-20 minutes of listening to solo piano music
such as Mozart or Beethoven while visualizing your goal? Remember the idea of the suggested
afternoon session, 15-20 minutes of string music such as Bach or Handel while you work on
auto-inquisition.
Remember the idea of suggested evening sessions? Writing two to three affirmations that you
were to work on, write them down or speak them out loud while looking in a mirror and
repeating those two to three affirmations several times to help you commit them to memory.
Remember the idea of working on your conscious mind, the conscious mind analyzes the
received data from the perceptions and beliefs it has, the average person remember thinks
about 60 thousand thoughts per day.
Think about that, how powerful your mind is and remember you can enhance your
consciousness by focusing on truth, connecting with nature and meditating. Remember all the
things that you are working on developing, increased self awareness, increased mental clarity,
increased emotional mastery, inner-peace. Think about these things now and then remember
what we talked about self awareness, what it means to be self aware.
Self awareness means that you have an understanding about who you are and how you relate
to the world. Remember the things that affect your ability to be aware, things that you are
taught, things that you hold as beliefs. But all of these things can be changed, they're just
perceptions you received. Remember how important it is to understand what you have taken
into your mind, how the media can affect you. You need to be aware of what's going into your
mind.
Remember self reflection? It's the first step to becoming self aware. Remember you need to
start talking with your friends, practice consciousness, become self aware. Remember how
important it is to know what you want. Focus on that now. Remember to let go of limiting
beliefs.
That's right, focus on some limiting beliefs that you can let go of right now. You are going to
remember all of this information, all of this information will be readily available for you. You're
going to have access, full access to all of this information, all of this information is yours.
All right now, at the count of three you will come out of this meditation session and when you
do you'll be wide awake and full of natural energy, remembering everything that you have
absorbed during this program and everything you absorb during this meditation session.
Coming up very slowly to the count of three, so that by the time I reach that final number you
will be wide awake and full of natural energy.
One, coming up feeling very good, full of natural energy. Two, coming up even more now,
beginning to move, beginning to stir, becoming very aware of where you are, very aware of
your surroundings. When I count to the next number you'll be wide awake, completely out of
meditation and feeling wonderful. All right now and three, eyes open, wide awake and before
you do anything I want you to take about half an hour to just relax.
This would be a great time to write down some notes, we've covered so much material so far.
The subconscious mind, the conscious mind, and being self aware I want you to capture some
ideas. There must be some powerful ideas at this point that have come to your mind. Ways
that you can change your life and enhance it. I want you to write them down now.
So take this opportunity to either write them out long hand or type them or use voice
dictation, however you can capture them, get those ideas down because those ideas are very
precious.
They're golden, they're going to yield some very powerful results for you, emotionally,
spiritually, financially, every aspect of your life. So capture those ideas, those are ideas coming
from you, that you generated, based on the ideas that I gave you, but they are your ideas so
capture them.
In the next module we're going to talk about concentration. This has been very valuable for
me in separating myself from a lot of other people and I want you to have this skill, this
power. If you can concentrate you can get a lot done. By concentration I've created thousands
of hypnosis recordings.
By concentration, I've gotten through graduate school, by concentration I've built a business
that helps people by providing them with tools such as this program that enhance their lives.
So concentration has been very powerful for me and I want you to understand this so that's
what we'll talk about in the next module. I'm Doctor Steve G. Jones, hoping you have an
outstanding day.
Module Four: Concentration
Welcome back, welcome to the module that's going to teach you about something that has
been so powerful for me in so many areas of my life, concentration. So, let's jump right in with
a definition of what is concentration. Well, concentration refers to taking your mind off of
many things, focusing it on one thing.
So think about how children learn to use a magnifying glass to light up a piece of paper on fire,
the sun is powerful and on a hot, sunny day we can feel the warmth. But, if you concentrate
the sun's rays you can light a piece of paper, that's what concentration in our minds is like.
We pick one goal and we focus on it with precision. It is a skill that allows you to be able to
focus on one thing at a time, it teaches you to exclude everything else from your awareness.
Like all skills, concentration must be practiced.
So, how does concentration help you enhance your mind power? Well, when you focus your
mind you conserve your energy and you don't spread it around to things that don't matter. If
your goal is to earn an extra five thousand dollars per month, for example, you should focus
on things that will help you get there.
You should focus on gaining new clients, for example, if you are in business. Or updating your
website, if you have a web-based business or attending networking events if you want to get
more clients from people you're introduced to, or including advertising in your budget. You
shouldn't be thinking about the new car that you want to buy because that decreases your
income each month.
So, thinking about a car to buy is great but when you are focusing on that one thing of
increasing your monthly income without decreasing it you need to get focused. So pick one
goal to work on at a time so you can conserve your energy and manifest your goals more
quickly. So, let's get you clear right now.
We're not going to do a visualization for this. I'm just going to get you really clear or I should
say I'm going to assist you as you get yourself really clear. So, what are your goals? What are
your goals? Think about it right now, while you are doing something, as you listen to me, just
think about your goals. What are your goals? What do you want to work on?
Think about your top three goals. If you don't have any, just make some up right now. Make
some up. They can be short term or long term, maybe your goal is to walk across the street.
Maybe your goal is to graduate from college, maybe your goal is to start a business, they can
be anything, anything you want. Maybe your goal is just to get up tomorrow morning and get
dressed, it doesn't matter. We're just using this as an exercise.
So, think of three goals right now. Now I want you to let go of two of them, two of them
certainly are not as important as the other one, there's got to be one that really stands out,
one that gets you excited. One that you really want to work on, one that stands out at least
above the other two.
So think about that one right now. I want you to just think about the things related to it. Why
do you even want that goal? What is it about that goal that gets you excited? Is it because
somebody else wants you to do it? Well, that's really not compelling.
Hopefully it's because you want to do it or if it's because somebody else wants you to do it at
least hopefully you see the benefits of it. Think about that right now, what about that goal
gets you excited? Maybe just getting it over with gets you excited, and that's fine. What about
it really gets you excited, think about that.
All right, now as you're doing that, what are you doing? You're focusing, you're blocking out
things and this may seem like a very straight forward way to do things, but that's really what
concentration is all about. That has made the difference for me, that ability to pair down to
something I want to focus on right now.
Now, when you really do this, not just with little examples you are thinking of, maybe you
thought about getting up and getting dressed tomorrow, or getting across the street, just
picking little goals so you can go through the exercise.
When you really think about this, when you really think about your goals and the things you
are working on, picking one and focusing on that, well that can be challenging at first.
Because, let's face it, this is life, you can get all kinds of things done. You can make all kinds of
things happen. You have the freedom and the ability in your mind and in your actions to do
things, to get things done.
So, picking one of those things can be a bit challenging, but I want you to work on this, and the
best way to work on this is by picking little examples like I've shown you, just picking little
goals and you pick the best one, the one you want to focus on, the best one, meaning the one
you really like the most.
What you are going to find is that by doing this, by doing this, by doing this, you exercise,
exercise, exercise that muscle of focus and when you do that enough, then when it comes to
the big things that really matter you are able to focus.
This is what allows you to do things like pick a house or pick a car or pick a major in college, or
pick the type of person you want to be with. You are able to do this because of that power of
concentration.
Now, I want you to realize that focusing your energies makes you more efficient, it allows you
to be proactive rather than reactive. Or worse, inactive. Now, if your energies are scattered
around several goals or even several challenges then you are constantly reacting to the latest
thing that's happening. You're not in control of your life or your goals in that situation.
You're also not handling things efficiently because you're jumping around from one
emergency to the next rather than focusing on the most efficient way to handle each
situation. So take one goal or challenge at a time, and focus your energy on that first.
Now, I'm not saying make the challenges in your life all disappear except for one because I
realize that you may be facing a few things that are really important, I understand that. What
I'm talking about is taking a few moments to focus on just one, getting some kind of action
plan together or taking some action toward resolving it or pushing it further along before you
focus on something else.
So even if you've got a few things going on simultaneously, which most of us do, you can still
use this, because if you take a few moments and focus on just one thing and work out a plan
to get it to the next level and then focus on the next thing, you become far more efficient.
Now you are using your energy in a productive way.
Now I want you to realize that concentration has many positive benefits which also attribute
to enhancing your mind power. First of all your ability to comprehend things increases. Your
memory can significantly improve.
Your listening skills can improve and when these skills are strong, these concentration skills
you are developing, your mind obeys you more readily. So enhancing your mind power
requires over-coming limiting beliefs and when the conscious and the subconscious mind are
on the same page the mind power increases. Y
ou see how important it is that we talk about the conscious mind and the subconscious mind
already so we've laid some groundwork for you to do this and when you can fully concentrate
on one thing at a time with no outside thoughts intruding in then you are in control of your
mind, and when you're in control of your mind it's easier to get your conscious mind and your
subconscious mind on the same page.
So, how do you improve your concentration? Well, meditation is one of the best ways for
improving concentration and fortunately I've been taking you through several meditation
exercises so you know how it's done. You know how easy and straight forward it is. Proper
meditation requires you to focus on your breathing.
So when you do it yourself I want you to focus on your breathing. When you're really getting
into meditation I want you to focus on your breathing. Now when you're just starting out
random thoughts are going to pop into your mind. Perhaps in the meditation exercises if you
did them in the previous modules, perhaps random thoughts were popping in your mind and
that's okay, that's normal.
Because when you're first starting out with meditation, especially if you're doing it yourself
and you don't have a guide like myself guiding you through it, random thoughts can pop into
your mind and that's okay, that's going to happen.
When I sit down to meditate random thoughts pop in my mind because I'm going from living
my life to sitting down and meditating, so I've got some random thoughts, some residual
thoughts, things that I was working on, it takes a while for those to calm down.
It just takes a few moments for me, when you first start meditation it may take a little longer,
and that's okay. You simply acknowledge the thoughts and gently pull your focus back to your
breath and over time the random thoughts stop coming. They will stop come in the beginning
but they will taper off more quickly, stop coming more quickly and then you can be in full
control of your mind.
So rather than walking you through a meditation session where you clear your mind I want
you to do that for your homework. I want you to do that all by yourself. Remember, focus on
your breathing. It can be something as simple as what I taught you. Breathing in through your
nose, holding it, opening your mouth slightly and exhaling slowly. Or you can get into rhythmic
breathing.
For example, breathing in to the count of three, hold to the count of three, and exhaling to the
count of three, using your own number that works there. Maybe you breathe in more slowly
so you want to increase that number. Maybe you breathe in more quickly so you want to
decrease that number. It's okay however you do it.
Just make sure you're allowing yourself enough oxygen and not rushing yourself and not
holding it too long. Doing something that's natural for you and then once you're in the that
focused state, once those thoughts, those random thoughts that play out, and you're relaxed,
then you can work on whatever it is that you want to work on.
But in this homework I want you to work on is getting to that point where you've cleared your
mind out. How do you do that? By forcing thoughts out? No. By thinking, "When are these
thoughts going to calm down?" No, but by just letting them play out. It's that simple. So again,
sitting down, eyes closed, make sure you're not doing anything else at the time.
Sitting or lying down in a safe, comfortable position, breathing in either rhythmically or just
deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth without any counting if you
want. Then allowing those thoughts to play out in your mind, whatever they may be.
Whatever thought may be going though your head, "
Oh I should do this, I didn't do that I wish I hadn't said that, I wish I had said this.", whatever
thoughts you have in your mind, let them play out and then you're going to find yourself in a
clear space in your mind, that's where I want you to get and that's all the homework is.
Then, if you want to focus on something while you're there, go ahead. That would be extra
credit if you want to do that. Feel free. But I want you to avoid distractions while you are
concentrating.
Constant sensory input is one of the top reasons people struggle with concentration. Cell
phones, televisions, music, anything that can pull your focus away from your goal is
considered distracting sensory input. So minimize these distractions to improve your
concentration. Now at the same time I want to tell you some people really thrive on that, they
really like that. They like having the TV on and the music on, and doing a few things at once.
If that's what helps you, that's fine. This isn't the 1950s, I'm not going to sit there with a ruler
and hit your hand every time you do things the "wrong way". We're far more advanced now,
we realize now that some people have a way of concentrating and relaxing that's unique and
that's okay.
So if you're one of those people it's fine, embrace yourself, embrace your uniqueness. If you're
able to concentrate by having a lot of things going on, now if you can block them out and
focus on that one thing, even though they are playing in the background, then by all means,
do that. But the majority of people would really benefit from turning off the TV, turning off
the music, and just focusing on what's going on in their minds.
So, whatever works for you, do it. Also, taking breaks is very powerful. You know, corporate
America is inadvertently frying the attention spans, if you will, of people with productivity
goals that often keep employees chained to their desks.
But, studies show that when you take a break and move around a little you improve your
productivity after 20 minutes of sitting still your brain actually doesn't really shut off, but it
really starts to not focus the way it should, the way you want it to.
So, with that in mind, move around every 20 minutes or so. Work for 60 minutes for example,
and then take about 20 to 30 minutes break, if you can. Now if you can just get away for a
little while, it's fine. Any little break is better than nothing and if you're required to sit in a
chair, just looking around, spacing out a little bit can be very beneficial, believe it or not.
Now, I'm not encouraging you to do anything that's against any employee manual, you should
always follow the rules if you're working somewhere. But if you have the flexibility to do this,
then by all means do it. Because you are actually benefiting your employer as well and during
your break, however long it may be, go for a walk, if you have time to do that. Take deep
breaths.
Drink some water. Do something other than focusing, focusing, focusing. Because we are not
machines, we're human and humans require a break every now and then. We require sleep,
computers don't require that, they can focus, focus, focus. They don't have to take breaks.
I heard about a computer recently that can process about two billion sets of information every
second which is more than any human has processed ever up to this point, couldn't process in
their entire lives and the realm in which this computer operates is poker playing actually.
So this computer is analyzing poker playing and can analyze two billion possible scenarios
every second which is more scenarios than a poker player encounters in their entire life. So,
we are not computers and that's okay. We're not attempting to be computers. If you push,
push, push, push, push yourself, you're not going to get up to the speed of a computer.
What you're going to do is burn yourself out and that's not what you want, so take breaks. Get
away, go for a walk, take deep breaths, drink some water, that actually improves your
concentration and when you take breaks you're going to feel recharged and more productive.
Also, learn techniques to increase your energy. While there are a few techniques, probably
countless techniques in fact, one that is easy for most people and very effective is double
breathing. Now if this doesn't work for you, that's fine, but I want to present it to you so you
can at least have a shot at it.
This technique was developed by Paramhansa Yogananda. Now you inhale a short, sharp
breath through your nose followed by a longer inhale through your nose that completely fills
your lungs. You notice that at first I took a short breath and then a longer breathe, filled my
lungs. Then, you exhale a short sharp breath through your mouth followed by a longer exhale
through your mouth, that releases the breath completely so it's like this.
Now this is designed to help oxygenate the blood to increase your energy. But, if you're new
to it take it slowly so you don't get dizzy and I want you to discuss this with your doctor before
doing this at all by the way.
All right so now you have my techniques for enhancing your concentration, use them, put
them to use. Make them work for you. Now in the next module we're going to talk about goal
setting because think about it, what good is concentration if you're not setting goals?
You've got to keep moving forward, you've got to keep thinking about the future, what's next,
what's next, what's next, so you can keep pulling yourself in the direction of success and this is
especially important after you have an initial success in something and you want to use the
momentum to keep moving forward. So join me in the next module as we talk about the all
important idea of goal setting. I'm Doctor Steve G. Jones, hoping you have an outstanding day.
Module Five: Goal Setting
Welcome back. Welcome to the module that is going to teach you about goal setting. Hey, if
you don't have goals where are you going, and when are you going to get there? A goal is just
a really good idea of something you want to achieve, but it's got a deadline on it. It's got some
kind of time stamp on it so you know when you're supposed to finish it.
I'll tell you what. I've motivated many people who have worked for me just by coming up with
when it's due, or when the deadline is, because oftentimes there is no deadline. It doesn't
really matter when it's done. But if you want to get something done you've got to put a
deadline on it.
I do that for myself too. I create sometimes arbitrary deadlines because let's face it when
you're self-employed a lot of projects really don't ever have to get done. You can just do them
if you want to, or not do them. It's up to you.
So you really have to get very clear when you become self-employed about deadlines and goal
setting. So this module is not just for those who are self-employed. It's for everyone like
yourself who wants to get things done. Goal setting. Let's jump in.
Why is goal setting important? Well goals are what you use to move forward in life. They give
you purpose when all else seems meaningless. What are we doing in this situation? Why are
we doing it? Why are we putting up with this? Because we've got a goal. We've got some sort
of deadline. We've got some kind of reward we're working toward. Goals give you hope.
Setting goals provides you with focus also. We talked about concentration, same thing.
Goals give you concentration and focus when you set them. So in order to enhance your mind
power you have to develop your focus. One of the best ways to develop focus is to set goals.
You learn to focus on one goal at a time until you complete it, and then you can move onto
the next one.
Now as I've said before, that doesn't hold true for everyone. Some people like to have a lot of
things going on. So if you're a variation of what I'm saying and you know that, and you know
how to get things done a different way, by all means do that.
I say do what works. But for most people it's really helpful to focus on one thing, get it done,
and then move on. This focus of one thing at a time strengthens your concentration, which is
an important part of enhancing your mind power.
Goals also allow you to measure your progress. Measuring your progress is necessary to keep
you motivated. Most people give up when they're not able to see results. It's one of the
biggest reasons people trying, I don't like that word, trying to lose weight get hung up on the
scale. The falling numbers represent progress.
So you're trying to do something [inaudible 2:37] of trying to do it for goodness sake. Just do
it. Let go of the idea of trying. If you're trying to do something you're kind of setting yourself
up for failure, aren't you? You know I could do it. Maybe I'll do it. Maybe I won't do it.
Maybe it will work out. Maybe it won't. But I'm just trying. No, that's an excuse word. You're
either doing something, or you're not doing something. But that's why people who are in the
process of losing weight get into the scale, because it's a number. That's why people who are
saving money get caught up in looking at numbers.
Now this is not a bad thing. When I say hung up and caught up, in these cases these are not
negative things. These are helpful things because they help you mark off little goals. I've lost X
amount of weight. Or I've gained X amount of money. But it is important that you look at
progress as a whole rather than just as bite size chunks. And we call this chunking down and
chunking up.
If you have a goal for the day, let's say your goal for the day is going to the mall. That's fine,
maybe there's something going on there. Well you can chunk it down by saying I've got to
wake up. I've got to put on clothes. I've got to eat breakfast. I've got to get in my car. I've got
to drive. I've got to find a parking spot. I've got to get out of my car. I've got to go into the
mall. That's chunking down into those bite size chunks.
Chunking up would be, perhaps I've got to prepare myself and I've got to go to the mall. So
we've chunked up. Now we've got two steps. So we can look at it any way we want. Whatever
works for us. But it's important that you look at the progress as a whole rather than just those
small chunks of each individual step.
Because what happens is if you're just looking at each individual step, and there happens to be
a step that you don't really like, that you find distasteful, maybe for example, you're going to
law school and you look at the step of preparing for a certain exam as a real pain, well if you
get caught up in looking at that and zooming in on it, what happens?
Well you lose sight of the whole thing. The whole thing is you're going to law school. You're
going to graduate. You're going to have a career as a lawyer. Perhaps go into politics. Who
knows what will happen. Maybe you'll work for some very powerful wonderful corporations
that create wonderful amazing things.
But if you get hung up in thinking, oh I've got to do this thing right now, well that can take you
right out of the game. Right out of the big picture. So really both are important, but my advise
to you is when you find yourself down in the minute details and you're not really liking them,
which is going to happen from time to time, remember what's really going on. Remember how
this fits into a much bigger picture.
That's what really going to keep you motivated overall. So in the weight loss example, a
person relying on the scale to show a weekly decrease in weight, and hopefully there is overall
a decrease, they get frustrated when they hit a plateau for a couple weeks. What you have to
look at is the overall trend.
Same thing with investments. If you look at the stock market well any given week, or any given
day, or any given second, the stock market may be down. Maybe the stocks that you bought
are down. But overall if you look at time, overall you look at ten years, twenty years, thirty
years, overall the stock market does pretty well. So if you get caught up in oh my goodness
what's going on right this second, or right this week, you can lose track of the goal.
The overall goal in that sense being to outpace inflation. To make money overall so your
money retains its value and actually stays more valuable than it would be if it just sat
somewhere in a bank. Same thing goes for the highs. You know we're looking at the stock
market, or housing values, or anything like that, there are going to be spikes.
There are going to be times in your career when you're doing really well. There are going to be
times when your investments are doing well. There are going to be times when your weight
loss is doing well, really well. And there are going to be times when it's not.
But you have to look at overall trends. So let go of getting caught up in the highs and lows, and
look at what's really going on. What's the overall trend? That's what looking at goals in the big
picture way, chunking up, that's what that's all about. So I've learned this over the years, that
when I set my goals I really need to pay attention to what's going on. You know if you just look
at what's going on day to day, or week to week, you really lose track.
You can really get caught up in thinking you know I do really well financially, when really I've
only looked at December sales. Well December sales are usually pretty good unless you're
selling houses. December sales are usually pretty good in retail, and that's usually where I find
myself looking when I'm talking about selling things.
When I'm talking about my programs, and my hypnosis CDs, and so forth. So usually we're
analyzing a retail type market. So if I just looked at December I'd think, oh my goodness I'm
doing really well. But if just looked at January for example, where sales are not so high, I might
think, oh I'm not doing so well. You have to look at an overall picture. Not only that, but you
have to look at how the trend is going over time, overall.
Are you making more money? In my case am I helping more people? Because the money I
make is a direct reflection of how many people I'm helping. So realize that goals hold you
accountable, even if only to yourself. They force you to take action, which is an important part
of enhancing your mind power. Also they force you to make choices, which test how much you
really want to achieve your goal.
So when given a choice between a healthy salad, or a piece of fried chicken, a clear goal to
lose weight will remind you why you should choose the salad. So although your goals make
you accountable only to yourself sometimes, you might find it helpful to tell your friends and
family and ask them to help hold you accountable. Hey if you have a goal and you state it to
yourself that's nice, but isn't that the easy way out? I mean if it doesn't work out, aren't you
really just trying?
But if you announce it to a few friends they might check on you in a few weeks. Hey how's that
goal going? You were going to buy that house. How's that going? You were going to get into
that school. How's that going? You were going to quit smoking. How's that going? They're
going to check in because they care about you. Not because they want to harp on you, but
because they care about you. So you can use that as leverage.
Take the risk, tell some people what you're working on. Unless it's a big secret, tell them what
you're working on. Allow them to do their job as friends and hold you accountable just as you
would do for them. You know think of it this way, when someone else is watching the clock for
you it creates a sense of urgency and need to make sure you get it done.
So you know that time is running out on your goal. You don't have forever. You have X amount
of time to do your goal, whatever it is. Even if you don't set an arbitrary goal, you have a
certain amount of time during which you can achieve that goal.
Afterwards it's not going to be appropriate. It's not going to count. For example, if you were
going to go to a certain school, well you have your lifetime in which to do that. But that's still a
finite amount of time.
Usually goals are much shorter than that in the duration in which they have to be achieved. So
if you have someone helping you watch that clock, and say hey time is running out here, how's
that goal going? That creates the urgency that you need to drive yourself forward.
Subconsciously you don't want to let them down so you work hard to make sure you meet
that goal.
Now how can goal setting help enhance your mind power? That's what this program is about,
mind power. Well goals have a way of giving you a measure way to get your conscious mind,
and your subconscious mind, on the same page. They help reveal any limiting beliefs holding
you back. This helps you better understand your subconscious mind. So goals provide
motivation when you feel like giving up, which is going to happen from time to time.
You're going to wake up and say, well I just don't know. Well, you've got a goal. You do know.
It's time to get up and make it happen because you've got this overall goal. And enhancing
your mind power isn't always easy. Especially when you have years of limiting beliefs to
overcome.
So having goals that mean something to you, really mean something to you, is going to ensure
that you keep going and you stay focused. So setting positive goals and working toward them
is going to increase your conscious. Since mind power is the conscious mind and the
subconscious mind working together as you've already learned in this program, being aware of
your consciousness is part of enhancing your mind power.
Now to help develop your conscious you must be present in the moment, every moment. So
setting goals keeps you focused on the moment and it heightens your self awareness. So what
are the best ways to set goals?
Well first of all, how about making a linear list. Grab a paper and pen if you are able to right
now. If not then do this later. Now nobody uses a typewriter anymore, but you can use one if
you have one. Actually I heard Woody Allen used one well into his career.
You can get a computer and start typing in. You can dictate into something. It doesn't really
matter what you do, but they way I like to do it is grab a paper and pen, because for me that's
the most real. I know it's old school, but it's also the most real for me. It also gets all of my
senses moving.
Because I've got kinesthetic, actually moving, my hand is moving. I can feel the paper and the
pen. I've got sight. I can see the words being written. I've got sound. I can say the words in my
mind and hear them back. So it really drills them in for me.
But however you want to record things, go ahead and do that if you're able to now. If not,
then do this later. And decide what you want your goals to be. Achievable goals are those that
are specific, simple, and easily measureable. So write those down.
What are some specific, simple, and easily measurable goals that you have? Once you've got
them written down, don't take too long on this just write down what comes to mind, you can
always do this later, you can always be more elaborate with your goals, once they're written
how about prioritizing them?
Deciding which one you want to work on first? That's easy. I want you to just give a first one a
number one next to it. The other ones get other numbers. So again, you're not deliberating
over this. You're just getting down some goals. Certainly you've got some things you want to
work on.
Write them down. Put the number one next to the top priority, and then they go downward in
priority from there. The second priority gets a two next to it, the third one in priority gets a
three next to it, and so forth.
Then what I want you to do, now if you can, later if you're busy now, if you're doing something
else that's fine, but I want you to mind map your goals. You know setting goals activate areas
of the brain associated with positive thinking and action. Mind mapping taps into your
creativity, gives you a visual of your goals.
So mind maps allow you to break your goals down into manageable goals and that stands as a
constant reminder. So, the center circle of a mind map is the goal that you're working toward.
For example, how about earning $5,000 per month. That would be in the center circle of your
mind map. So if you're drawing now, which hopefully you are or you will, you'd draw a circle
and put earning $5,000 a month. If that's your goal is.
Whatever your goal is. Your top goal. The outside circles are all the steps that you need to take
in order to reach that goal. But we're just dealing with your top goal right now. We can treat
each of them individually by going through a mind map for each. So the outside circles are the
steps that you'll need to take in order to reach the goal. Get more clients, advertise, update
your website if you're a freelancer.
Whatever you do, whatever your goal is, these things matter because they're going to
determine your steps when you put those in the rings, in the circles, around that center circle.
So as you go out, they go backwards in time. For example, the furthest one out is going to be
the one you do first, and as you get closer to the goal those are going to be the ones you do
later. So closer to the center means they happen later on, they happen closer to achieving the
goal.
You can also have subcategories for each of those if you like. So for example, perhaps your
steps along the way have sub-steps in them. So they can each get their own mind map, each
of those steps. For example, if your goal is to make $5,000 a month and one of your steps
along the way is to get more advertisers, well maybe if you need more people advertising for
you, you've got to go out and find them, and you've got to talk to them about advertising for
you.
Then you've got to make sure that they're doing that. So that becomes a mind map of its own.
That's a sub-mind map, and you do it the same way. The center becomes getting more
advertisers. The steps away from it, the circles going out from it, are going backwards in time.
Where as they get closer to the center they're going forward in time as you get closer to that
goal of getting them on board and getting them to do what they need to do.
So the key is to put in color once you've got this. Break them down into images and words.
Then you can put it where you can see it. So the reason I say the key is to do that is because
you can see the progress. If you're visual at least, you can see the progress.
So you put in color and break them down with images and words. In other words, you can
make this as elaborate as you want. You can put in different colors, for example maybe the
outside ring is purple, and the next ring is green, and so forth. Put in colors. You can also use
those colors to link certain parts of the mind map that are related in a certain way.
You can use these colors however you want. You can also put in images and words in the
circles. Perhaps getting advertisers is a billboard, a picture of a billboard you found it in a
magazine. You cut it out and put it on there.
In this case you of course you need the rings to be wide enough to put that on there, and you
would need to put it on some kind of paper that's big enough, or a poster board that's big
enough, so that you can actually paste things to it. So you can elaborate with it if you want. Or
if you want to be concise you can just use the words themselves, or the sentences.
You can do it however you want. Now for me the key is the colors. I like the colors because
you can go from one to the other, and you can feel like you graduated. Sort of like going
through karate for example, or any other martial arts.
You graduate by going through different belts. You work your way up a graduated scale, and
as you do that you feel good about yourself. So that's why I say that's the key because for me
that is the key. The different colors represent moving forward. But for you it may be
something different.
Maybe pictures, or maybe just the words, and that's fine. The key is you want to get these
down, and you want to start using the mind map. A lot of people make it very difficult to use a
mind map when they're actually very easy and you can customize them. So go ahead and
create your own, and enjoy it, and use it, and use them over and over.
When I say over and over I mean once you achieve that goal move onto the next goal. Keep
using mind maps. Not that you're continuing to achieve the same goal, but that you're
continuing to use mind maps to achieve all of your goals.
Because what happens after you achieve goal number one on your list? Well you move on to
goal number two and keep moving forward. Hey, some of them are going to take longer to
achieve than others and that's fine. You give them the time they now.
All right. So now you understand goals. In the next module we're going to talk about enhanced
creativity. Something that's very powerful, but again often overlooked. Because if you're
getting into all this goal setting and conscious mind working together, subconscious mind
working together, and you're getting into moving forward and tapping at your mind power,
something that's going to be very powerful for you is enhancing your creativity.
So we're going to talk about that in the next module. So get excited and get ready to join me
in that module. I'm Dr. Steve G. Jones. Hoping you have an outstanding day.
Module Six: Enhanced Creativity
Welcome back, welcome to the module that’s going to teach you how to enhance your
creativity. Let’s jump right in! First of all, what is creativity? Well creativity is characterized by
an individual’s ability to perceive the world in new ways!
Some definitions of the world insists that only individuals with original ideas are creative. Truly
not true. Everyone is creative. Even people who take existing ideas and make them different!
Creativity sprints far and wide in this artistic community world that we live in. Artist and
writers create images and stories from their imaginations. They look at the world in different
ways and they ask “what if we present the world with options?”
But creativity is not limited to just the artistic world. Creativity is important in all areas!
Businesses uses creativity to find new ways of drawing an audience in. Truck drivers use
creativity to keep themselves entertained on the road. Children use creativity to play with one
another. Creativity can happen at anytime, anywhere, and with anyone.
I use creativity in my business. We've always got to find new ways to help people. You know
it’s interesting. When I was a kid the educational system was a certain way. Now it’s different.
When I was a kid the workforce was a certain way. When I was a young kid, say my early teens
and just starting to work. The workforce was one way, now it’s different.
Now we have people who are going into work spaces that are open. No more cubicles,
everything’s open. Sometimes flexible hours. People can work at home. Back in my day when I
first started working.
Working at home didn't really work unless you had a telemarketing job because there was no
internet vastly available to everyone. Now there is. People can work from home. They can
work remotely. They can work from just about anywhere.
So things have changed quite a bit. That brings up the idea of marketing. You know
marketing’s changed quite a bit. The way we have to creative in getting our ideas out there.
Also the way we have to be creative in delivering information to people.
When I started hypnotherapy there were just cassette tapes. You made a cassette tape and
you can deliver your information on a cassette tape. A hypnosis recording on a cassette tape.
Then came CDs and then Mp3s and who knows what’s next. Always changing. So that requires
us to be creative.
My sound engineers have to be creative in keeping up with technology because not only is it
that you had cassette and CDs and Mp3s and so forth but you also have different ways that
those are played by people.
Different ways that people get that information. Mp3 can be played in a variety of different
ways on different devices so there has to be some creativity in creating the recording so that
they look right on every possible player. For example the artwork that’s on them.
If it looks strange because it’s on a device we’re not aware of, that’s not good. We have to
step up, we have to be creative. We have to figure out how it’s going to look right on this new
device. So this is constantly changing which is actually very wonderful but I also have to use
this in my business life and my personal life as well. Think about entertainment.
Things that you do in your personal life, playing video games. Going to the movies. You know,
these things have changed over time. You have to understand the creativity even if you’re not
involved in producing it you have to understand it you have to understand there are ways to
play movies now that don’t involve going to the movie theater or getting a VHS tape or even a
DVD. You can play them on a computer, you can play them on smart phones. You can play
them any number of ways.
Keeping up with things is part of what having a creative mind is all about not only innovating
but also keeping up with what the world is doing and embracing that rather than shying away
from it. Rather than sticking to owning a cassette player and stepping up and owning what’s
the latest and greatest and most interesting.
That’s one of the things that I've noticed is that as I get older I have a tendency to think hmm
do I need that next thing. Do I need that new thing? Well guess what happens if I don’t get it. I
lose touch a little bit. I lose touch with consumers I lose touch with people in the world who
are using those things so I do my best to stay up to date with the latest technology to make
sure I’m getting the latest phone and the latest car and so forth.
That really helps me stay in touch with people and the way they’re thinking. The current
thinking of the day. That creative cutting edge really keeps me sharp because I’m in touch with
what’s going on and if you’re in touch with what’s going on, then you can apply that to your
life. I’m not saying always get the newest car or the newest phone, I’m not saying that.
I get a lease on a car every two years so I stay relatively up to date on that. So what I am
saying is that if you make an effort to understand the world around you and the way
technology is changing over time especially over time as you get older. Let’s face it. No matter
how old you are, you’re getting older. We all are and that’s okay. We’re all in this journey
together.
We’re all in this train together and that’s fine. But as we progress down the tracks we need to
realize that it really helps to stay up to date with what’s going on. So let’s talk about staying in
that zone and let’s talk about what people call staying in flow.
So what is flow and how does it relate to creativity? Well according to positive psychology
flow is an optimal state of consciousness in which you feel your best and perform at your best.
Typically occurs when you’re doing something you love and you’re in the zone.
So during flow ego and to an extent self-awareness melt away. You become focused on the
activity for its own sake. Flow has been linked to enhanced activity and performance across a
wide range of activities. So ego is a primary block of creativity. Many people second guess
themselves or second edit themselves or self-edit ideas.
They really get into this idea of oh I wrote that but I don’t know if that’s really what I want to
say. I could be pushing it a little bit. I don’t know if the world is ready for that. You know,
thoughts like that or I could have said that better or no I should redo that.
You can get caught up in that paralysis by analysis but when people go with the flow. When
they stay in that zone. You know, taking on creative ideas, staying up to date with things and
getting into things that they really enjoy, well inhibitions fall away and the ego dissolves itself
to the creative side that rises up from within.
I don’t want to get too carried away here, creatively if you will, but these are the kinds of
thoughts I get when I think about this. That ego just melting away and the creative spirit
coming, shining through, coming up from within.
You know you tend to bury that, don’t you? Sometimes in your day to day life? Well if you let
it shine through, that’s where flow really is. This is why artists sometimes seem so unfocused.
They can actually be very focused but seem unfocused because they’re focused on their own
work.
They may not be focused on what you’re saying or what the rest of the world is doing in that
moment but they get focused right then and there on what they’re doing. So flow has a
physical effect on people as well.
It causes a person to brainwaves that are brainwaves can shift from the rapid beta waves of
the waking consciousness to the slower alpha waves and then in some cases to theta waves
and this relaxed state opens up creativity and taps into the subconscious.
It’s in this state which lucid dreaming is possible and it’s where the conscious mind and
subconscious mind can meet! During that state of flow the prefrontal cortex becomes
deactivated. This is the area of the brain responsible for higher level cognition including
cognition that cultivates the ego. Shutting this part of the brain down temporarily allows
creativity to flow freely without the ego stepping in.
So flow states trigger the release of certain things in the body, they also trigger the release of
some chemicals. Some of which you may be interested in.
Flow state triggers the release of dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and endorphins,
things that make you feel good. Flow helps you enhance your mind power by engaging both
the conscious and subconscious mind flow actually allows the two to meet and work together.
When both parts of the mind are on the same page so to speak well your mind power
increases and that’s what this program is all about.
As your mind power increases, manifesting your goals becomes much easier so how do you
enhance a state of flow. Do something that interests you. Maybe your things isn’t keeping up
with latest technology. That’s okay.
Flow comes naturally out of things that you are intrinsically interested in. Naturally interested
in, things you gravitate towards, things that get you pumped up. If the task is work-related and
not really part of your passion than how about finding elements of the work that excites you.
In other words you can get into the flow state even doing something that you don’t
necessarily think you enjoy.
Achieving a state of flow requires an interest in the topic at some level. At some point there
has to be some interest. So set aside time when it’s quiet where you can be productive. Some
people prefer peace and quiet so that they can get into their own minds.
Some people prefer music while working. We’ve discussed this in previous modules, that’s
fine. Either is fine. As long as you’re not distracted by what’s going on and choose a time
when you’re most productive. Perhaps in the morning or late at night when everyone’s asleep.
Whenever it is for you. And schedule your flow time around your most productive time.
Whatever time that happens to be for you.
Avoid interruptions and distractions. Turn off your phone, your television and any other
electronic equipment you don’t need. You know humans are creatures of habit and you
condition your mind to start thinking creatively the minute you step into your space so set up
a space that’s used only for your creative work and over time just entering that space is going
to trigger your brain and get it ready to move in to the flow state and when you’re doing this
focus as long as you can.
Getting in to a state of flow requires losing yourself into the world. So in order to get lost you
have to focus. Isn’t that interesting? Just like the artist. When you’re focusing starting out
focusing you may only be able to focus for five or ten minutes.
Its fine, Keep practicing. Keep moving forward. Remember that finding the flow is about the
process not the outcome and although the flow does lead to creativity you can block yourself
if you focus on that alone so flow is about feeling good in the process.
Focus on the moment and not on what you hope to accomplish from it. Don’t get all caught up
in oh I’m working on this I’ve got to do this, I’ve got to do that. Kind of like meditation people
think I’ve got to meditate to try and relax. Got to relax. Got to relax. What happens? They get
themselves out of relaxation when they do that.
Flow is about the feeling. Feeling good in the process. Focus on the moment. Not on your
goals in that moment. The process of unlocking your creativity is all tied up in enhancing your
mind power so tap into that and as they say, go with the flow.
Alright now that we’ve talked about creativity and mind power lets really understand and I
want to make sure you understand how important creativity is. Think about people like
Einstein using his creativity.
He was the first to admit that he is a creative person he’s tapping into his creativity. He’s the
type of person who would use his creativity to bring forth his ideas rather than getting caught
up in the nuts and bolts of things, he understood the importance of his creative side.
Look at all the great artist who ever existed and ever will exist there are clearly creative but it’s
interesting when we compare the sciences to the art. Those who really stand head and
shoulders above their peers are the ones who use their creativity such as Einstein.
Not just the ones who showed up and did what they were supposed to do which is always
wonderful, but the ones who stood above that. The ones who are outstanding. The ones who
moved beyond that. The ones who stepped out of the box. I know that’s cliché but they really
did they moved out of the confinements of the day.
That’s what allows us to be discovered. That’s what allowed relativity special relativity and
after the work of Einstein came the quantum theory and who knows what will be next as we
continue to move forward but these required people who would think about the next step
Einstein didn’t like quantum theory because as he said god doesn’t play dice with the
universe.
Nowadays we really need to accept the idea that quantum theory, as random as it seems
really helps to get things done it really explains a lot of the universe. A lot of the things that we
think are set may actually be random and the numbers work out.
This all required people to think outside of their normal thinking the way that everyone is
thinking. They stepped outside of that so I really encourage you as you look into enhancing
your mind power that you look into other program’s products, activities, groups, etc. that will
help you enhance your creativity.
Creativity is one of the most essential components, the most powerful components of
enhancing your mind power. With it you can move mountains. Without it, well you have kind
of become stuck where you are and that’s not what I want for you. What I want for you is for
you to move forward to move mountains and do what you want to do and share your gifts
with the world so really look into that. I really want you to work on enhancing your creativity.
Alright, well you have been a trooper. You are moving forward. I’m very proud of you. You just
finished module 6 and you've got seven and eight to go. So guess that that means? That
means you’re three quarters of the way through this program. So keep moving forward.
In the next module, module seven, I’m going to talk about the power of your thoughts. Your
thoughts are so powerful. They’re something you can take control of. They’re not something
that you have to wait for, something you have to hope someone else will do for you, or give to
you or find you worthy of doing for you or any of that.
Thoughts are within your control no matter who you are, you have control of your thoughts.
That’s great news. I’m going to share with you in the next module how you can enhance your
mind power through the power of your own thought. Something you already have. A tool that
you have that perhaps you didn't even know you have that you can use.
I’m going to teach you how to use them in the next module so join me for module seven that
will talk about the power of your thoughts. I’m Doctor Steve G Jones, hoping you have an
outstanding day.
Module Seven: The Power of Your Thoughts
Welcome back. Welcome to the module that's going to teach you about something you
already have though you may not know it: the power of your thoughts. That's right, your very
own thoughts. Take the thoughts you're already thinking and learn how to harness that
power.
Mind power is one of the strongest, most useful powers that you possess and this power
consists of your thoughts, actions, and words. Your thoughts become words, words become
actions, and your actions become habits. Positive thoughts become positive habits while
negative thoughts become negative habits, so your predominant thoughts control the
outcome of your life.
These thoughts influence your behavior and attitude. They control your actions and your
reactions. They develop and shape your belief system. Your thoughts pass from your conscious
mind to your subconscious mind. You can either enhance your mind power with positive
thoughts, or you can limit your power with negative thoughts.
Thoughts are like seeds; they're going to grow and manifest in your life if you feed them with
attention, interest, and enthusiasm. Of course, you choose whether you want to grow flowers
or weeds. Let's talk about how negative thoughts increase your mind power.
You've got to realize that thoughts have power over your moods, your body, and your
emotions. Doctors now acknowledge this. If you wake up in a bad mood, take stock of how
you feel because you'll probably -- because of tiredness and grogginess -- notice aches and
pains, or you may just feel angry for no reason at all.
By the way, negative emotions and positive emotions are all part of life, so don't get down on
yourself for having negative thoughts every now and then. That's just part of the deal.
Negative emotions over time -- if you focus on them and they're your predominant thoughts --
can set your conscious mind and your subconscious mind against one another, which
decreases your mind power and that's not what this program is about.
Negative thoughts decrease your self-awareness. If all you focus on is how bad things are,
then you're missing out on the good things that happen to you. Your self-awareness goes
down. As it goes down, so does your confidence. When your confidence dwindles, you may fall
into being very sad or develop self-esteem issues.
All of these lower your mind power and that's not what you want! Negative thoughts decrease
your concentration. One of the most important aspects of enhancing your mind power is the
ability to concentrate and to focus. That single-minded focus is necessary to advance your
goals and expand both your conscious and your subconscious mind.
But when you focus on negative thoughts, your mind wanders to all the instances in which you
had been wronged, for example. Your energy scatters and you become less effective. As you
realize a decrease in your concentration, your mind power can decrease, too. Negative
thoughts can inhibit you in a number of ways.
One of the things they can do is inhibit your creativity. Creativity, as I've said, is very important
and very powerful. It can set you apart from other people, but negative thoughts are centered
on your ego and your ego likes to censor creativity. When you spend all your time focusing on
the negative, you don't give yourself a chance to brainstorm new ideas. When you focus on
the outcome instead of the process, you're not going to be able to get into the creative flow.
As your creativity decreases, so does your mind power. That's certainly not what this program
is about, so how can we counter that? Well, to help you understand how to do that, I want to
share with you a time when I had negative thoughts and a negative thought pattern and I
turned it around.
It was back in the year 2000 and I was in hypnotherapy. I had been in hypnotherapy for a
number of years, having gotten into it in high school in the 1980s. Having followed up with
that and jumping into helping people with hypnotherapy, at around the year 2000 I was
thinking, well, I don't know.
That was right when the Internet was kicking in. I didn't have much going on on the Internet
yet, but now I do. Now it's my primary source of revenue, but back then I didn't. I was starting
to get a little burnt out from office sessions.
I had my office in Beverly Hills back then and seeing a lot of high-powered clients, but they
were burning me out. To be honest, they were just really tapping me because I was dealing
with their situations and taking those things on. It was really a lot for me to deal with and I
was really getting bogged down with all of that. I was thinking, well, maybe I need to go into a
different profession.
Thank goodness the Internet kicked in! It allowed me to lighten my patient load and allowed
me to create more programs like this that reach thousands of people, making my life so much
better and so much easier and reaching more people and offering them the help that they
need and want.
But, back then, I was thinking very negatively and thinking I should probably get out of this. I
hired a coach -- someone who had worked for Tony Robbins -- and the coach was sharing with
me an idea about a person selling water and how he was selling bottles of water. Everyone
else quit selling bottles of water, but this guy kept selling bottles of water and then bottles of
water became popular. They kind of "kicked in" and people started buying them.
This person became wealthy because he stuck with it. He had the "stick-to-it-iveness", as we
call it, to stay with it and so he became wealthy. He shared this with me and I thought that's
kind of the way I'm thinking about hypnosis. A lot of my friends are actually getting out of it.
They're getting burnt out, too.
Maybe if I just stick with it a little bit longer it will turn out to be something that I really like.
Well, that's when the Internet was becoming popular. I got a website and the rest is history. I
developed that into the ability to sell a lot of products online and help a lot of people, and pull
myself out of that patient load and that burnt out state that I was in back then. Seeing
patients for eight hours a day and taking on all their challenges was really weighing me down.
That was a time when I realized I had a negative thought pattern. Thanks to the coaching I
received, now you are receiving that same coaching. Thanks to that coaching, I was able to
turn it around. A little positive thinking goes a long way and sticking with things also goes a
long way.
By the way, it's one of the things I've noticed that separates the people who are successful
from those who are not. People who are successful stick to things. They don't care how rainy
or stormy it gets. They just stick to it and keep moving forward toward the goal. I want you to
realize that.
Part of that is having a positive attitude and realizing that things are going to turn around, this
really is your passion, and this really is something you want to do. Let's talk about changing
your thoughts. I want you to, first of all, practice positive affirmations.
If your mind is full of negative thoughts, how about changing them? How about replacing
them? How about writing out powerful, positive affirmations that you can easily replay over
and over in your mind? These affirmations need to be things that your mind can grasp onto
and believe. Otherwise, they may not work as well.
Repeat them for at least five minutes twice a day until you feel a shift in your thoughts.
They're just like seeds. Plants take time to grow. It's not like a seed just becomes a plant
overnight. It takes time.
Also, how about learning how to stop? It's very easy to get wrapped up in your misfortunes,
but it's not as easy to stop talking about them. Whenever you feel yourself thinking about the
"bad things that have happened" or you catch yourself really complaining, just stop. It doesn't
mean you don't learn from your mistakes, it just means you stop going over and over what
you're really not going to change. Use your mistakes as steppingstones to the next lesson.
Also, practice gratitude. One of the best ways to change your thoughts is to focus on what you
have to be grateful for, even if it's just the little things. Keeping a daily gratitude journal gives
you a reason to look for good things in the world. The more you practice, the more natural it
becomes. At first, it may seem forced, but over time as you learn to be more grateful, more
often it's going to feel genuine and you're going to feel happy.
Let's take a moment and examine this idea of gratitude and being grateful. It's so easy to just
say, "Oh, yeah. I've got this and I've got that," and to really start feeling like you just should
have it. By all means, you probably should have whatever it is that you do have. But, if you feel
that sense of entitlement without being grateful for it, that's where you run into a little bit of a
situation with the law of attraction.
You see, being grateful for what you have allows you to get more of that. If you really want
more of that -- whatever it is -- you've got to learn this idea of gratitude. That's why it's so
popular. That's why you hear people talking about gratitude and gratitude meditation, being
grateful, being thankful, allowing the law of attraction to continue working, and allowing the
cycle to continue. Let's talk about this idea of gratitude.
Well, first of all, what are some things you're thankful for? You can just think as you're doing
whatever you're doing now. What are some things you're grateful for? The air that you
breathe, for example? Your job, if you have a job?
Gravity? That's always a good one, the fact that we're not floating around. You may think
that's ridiculous, but without gravity... think about it! Would there be life as we know it? No, it
would be different.
Even if it's just something simple like that: air, gravity, water, shelter, and the basics. Maslow's
hierarchy of needs talks about needing to check off the basics -- you need to have food,
shelter, water, and so forth -- before you can move up all the way to self-actualization. Those
basics are very important because they form the foundation of what we need as humans, so
don't over look them.
That's the essence of gratitude. Maybe you've been looking at things that you want that are
out there but you don't yet have, so you're thinking, "This universe hasn't given me anything.
What have I got to show for my effort?" When, really, you've a lot.
You're alive. You're breathing air. You're drinking water, water that's clean. You're eating food.
You've got things to show for your life. You've got things that you can be grateful for. We all
do. You can easily get caught up in this next level idea. "I'm not at the next level yet, so I'm not
thankful!"
"I'm working toward that next level, but I'm not there yet so I'm not grateful for what I do
have." You need to be grateful for what you do have right now if you want to see that next
level and if you want to get up to that next level, because that's the way the law of attraction
works.
Being thankful for it, accepting it, and acknowledging it. Wanting more not in a greedy way,
but just in a "I like that" type of way. "I like that and I'd like some more of that. I'd like to go in
that direction."
"I like warm water. I'd like to go in that pool of warm water." There's nothing wrong with that,
but when you accept it and you're grateful for it, that's when you open up the law of
attraction of working for you and giving you more of that. Think about those things you like.
Think about them right now.
Things that you have that you're thankful for that maybe you've been taking for granted. I'm
sure there are five things right now that you can think of, like maybe your family. Things even
beyond the air that you breathe and the food that you eat. Family, friends, or perhaps a job.
Perhaps there's a nice park by where you live. Perhaps you have a bicycle or perhaps your
have a car, or maybe you have an airplane. Who knows! These are things that you can be
thankful for. That's all it is: being grateful and being thankful.
It comes down to thinking like a child. Children believe that they will get everything they want
just because they ask for it. That's why they get so upset when you tell them no. But, you can
learn a thing or two from children.
Believe it, but don't force it. Don't hold on to that which doesn't serve you. Understand that
whatever you ask for is on its way, so there's no use in wasting energy worrying about it. If
action is required, take action and move on!
You can home for things all you want, but if there's something you can do to get it, how about
doing that? How about taking that action? Also, let go of getting caught up in the idea of
holding grudges. Forgive and move on.
I want you to master self-awareness and learn to control your moods. Once you understand
your emotions and why you feel them, then you can learn to control them and you realize that
happiness is a choice. You choose to be happy or unhappy. It's your choice. How about
choosing to be happy?
You can either make the best of a tough situation and laugh along the way, or you can be a
grouch about everything and be miserable. It's your choice. I'd rather see you laugh, though.
Let go of letting other people or circumstances steel your happiness. If those circumstances or
those people have that much power over you, is that something you want?
Remember that you, with your own thoughts, have the power. That's what this module is
about, so how about meditating on a daily basis to get the full benefits of this. Changing your
thoughts can be challenging and I understand that. But, with the right tools, it can be done
easily.
Meditation can flood your system with inner peace and endorphins. These things make you
feel better and happier. Meditation is a practice of consciousness, which moves your mind
from problems to the present moment. From focusing on those challenges you have that
people call problems to the here and now. The present moment.
When you work meditation and consciousness together, then you can sustain a feeling of
inner peace as a permanent state rather than a temporary one. All right, you've got one more
module to go! You can do it! Module eight is just around the corner. Stick with it!
In module eight, we're going to talk about the universal mind. The universal mind refers to the
fact that you have the power to create anything, so not only do you have power of creativity
and not only do you have the power of your own mind in general, but now you're going to
learn that you have access to the universal mind.
With that, your power increases exponentially. I want you to have that knowledge and I want
you to have that power, because it's really going to help you enhance your mind power. I save
the best for last.
In the next module -- the final module, module eight -- we're going to talk about the universal
mind and how you can use it to your advantage in a good way, in a powerful way, in a
wonderful way, and in a beneficial way to help yourself and others. I'm Dr. Steve G. Jones,
hoping you have an outstanding day.
Module Eight: The Universal Mind
Welcome, welcome back. You made it, you made it to the final module, to module eight, The
Eight Habits of Enhancing Your Mind's Power. This is the ultimate habit. Understanding and
using methods in this module concerning the universal mind. What does the universal mind
refer to? The universal mind refers to the fact that you have the power to create anything. You
can create any form of self expression that you want.
You are in flow with energy and you have the answers you need within yourself. When you
realize that, your mind power increases exponentially. The thought, “whatever you can
conceive you can achieve” is true. Whatever exists in your thoughts can manifest in the
physical realm. You have to be open to receiving it and you have to get out of your own way.
Through the universal mind, you have access to the limitless creativity of the one.
Everyone has access to all knowledge known. This information is empowered and stored in the
subconscious mind – in your subconscious mind, in my subconscious mind, in everyone's
subconscious mind where it can be accessed at any time.
How can we use the universal mind to enhance our mind power? Accessing the universal
mind, wiretapping into your subconscious, tapping into your subconscious brings your
conscious and subconscious mind in close proximity and when worked toward a common goal,
the two parts of the mind together make a mind power.
When I say in proximity, I don't mean they're going to move. They are going to work together
and what you do with your mind power is limited only by your beliefs. In order to tap into your
unlimited power which you're already a part of, by the way, you have to have an open mind
and be willing to look deeply inside yourself. Self awareness is there for an important part of
the universal mind. To access the universal mind you must be aware of the difference
between that higher connection and your ego.
In general, connection with your true higher self causes peace, clarity and mindfulness. Your
ego will leave you with feelings of anxiety and lack, on the other hand. For me personally, as a
hypnotherapist, I like to use hypnosis to tap into the universal mind.
This helps me enhance my mind power, but you can use any method that you'd like, but first
of all you must recognize abundance and the idea of the universal mind is that there is an
abundance of everything, whether it's financial abundance, spiritual abundance or any other
type of abundance there's enough to go around.
Focusing on lack can cut you off from the universal mind so you have to open yourself to
receiving that which you have asked. Understand, we're not physical beings but spiritual ones.
We're like drivers in a car. The driver is the spirit, the car is the body. We are spiritual beings.
The universe was created from consciousness and it's an expression of thought. Through the
course of history we have come to identify with ourselves separately from the universal mind.
We consider ourselves solo players rather than part of the universal dance of life. Every
thought that brought us into the universal mind is heard and it does affect the whole. Doubt
can lead to a feeling of separation but if you're on that right path you're going to feel that
oneness in thought and action.
How do you manifest using the universal mind? First of all, manifestation is based on principle
of belief and an important step to manifesting your desires is to understand you are not
separate from the universe.
The ability to achieve your goals has been in you the whole time. By accepting this is truth you
open yourself and your consciousness to the idea that you are the creator of your life and your
desires. Keep in mind that all thought exists within the universal mind.
If there's doubt or negativity, you'll not manifest your desires. You can use meditation and
small requests to build your confidence. Practice meditation every day to connect with higher
self and the universal mind.
That connection is going to reinforce your belief and your openness to receive more from the
universal mind. As with any form of meditation, make your initial requests and build your
confidence. In this way your testing your power and it increases over time. I want to share
with you the three step process to manifesting. Step one is to request what you want. When
you do this make sure you're specific and clear about what you want.
Although the universal mind has access to all thoughts, if those thoughts are contradictory
your not going to manifest what you want, so write it down if it helps. You gather your
thoughts in detail when you do this so write it down if that's what is going to help you focus.
Step two is to believe, which we've talked about in detail before. Step three is to take inspired
action. Action for the sake of action is not going to get you where you want to be.
Inspired action from the knowledge of the universal mind is going to lead you directly to your
goal. Realize that connecting with the universal mind not only enhances your own mind
power, it is the driving force behind manifestation and you are provided with the knowledge
necessary to manifest your desires. This idea of tapping into the universal mind and using it in
a good way to enhance your life and your mind power is something that can really be helped a
lot with meditation and hypnosis.
For the rest of this module I want to share with you a hypnosis session that's designed to help
you enhance your mental power by tapping into the universal mind. The rest of this module is
a hypnosis session.
If you have anything you're doing now such as riding a bike, jogging, driving a car, doing
housework, doing anything other than sitting or laying down in a comfortable position and a
safe position I want you to listen to this later because the hypnosis session I'm about to share
with you is going to be so powerful it's going to cause you to relax.
I only want you to do that when you're sitting or laying down in a comfortable position so if
you were to lean to the left or the right you wouldn't fall out of anything. Laying down on a
floor or a bed or a sofa so that you're safe and comfortable and making sure no one is going to
disturb you during the duration of this hypnosis session because this hypnosis session is going
to allow you to tap into the idea of the universal mind.
That's where I want you to be. That's where I want you to focus as you take in this
information. I'm going to share that session with you. What I suggest you do is listen to the
rest of this module when you're about to go to sleep because I'm not going to come back on at
the end of the module and say anything. I'm just going to allow you to drift into a gentle sleep
at the end of the module. The rest of this module is very special.
It's going to program you to tap into the universal mind. It's also going to tell you to drift off
into a peaceful sleep at the end of the module. I'm going to say goodbye for now. I'm going to
wrap up the program for now because the rest of the module is going to be a hypnosis
session. I'm not going to come back on and say I hope you enjoyed that session because I'm
hoping you use this, you go to sleep with it.
If you want to listen to this during the daytime, fine. You never use hypnosis while operating a
motor vehicle, you realize that, or doing anything. You only use it when sitting or laying down.
This hypnosis session is going to be fairly lengthy. You can look at the length of this recording
and realize how long this hypnosis session is going to be and you can set an alarm for the end
of the session if you need to wake up after the hypnosis session.
If you want to listen to it during the day while you're sitting or laying down and you need to
get up to do something afterward, set an alarm for yourself for the end of this module or you
could just listen to at night as you go to bed, which is what I recommend.
Play the rest of this module as you're going to sleep. Let it just put you into a soft, gentle
sleep. You'll still get all the programming even if you slip into a sleep because the stages of
hypnosis are not different than the stages of sleep.
There's not a different scale. You go to sleep, you're just going to hypnosis and that's ok
because they're one and the same. You're still able to take in the information. Alright, my
understanding is if you're still listening to this you're only sitting or laying down, preferably at
bed time but if not, you've set an alarm if you need to get up at the end of this and you're
never listening to this while operating a motor vehicle or doing anything other than sitting or
laying down.
I'm going to say goodbye to you now for this program because our time together, me teaching
you has come to an end. The rest of the program is going to be at a subconscious level. The
rest of this program is just going to be a hypnosis session so I'm going to say goodbye. I've
enjoyed working with you. I've enjoyed helping you.
Congratulations for sticking with it to the end of this module. After you finish this I encourage
you to go through this program again because the second time you go through something, just
like the second time you watch that movie, you pick up on a lot more because you know what
to look for.
You've seen the movie. You know what you've learned and you also know what you missed.
You're thinking I didn't really pay attention during that part. That's OK because that's what
watching it again is for and that's what listening to this program is for also.
Learn quite a bit and there may be also be some things you missed or some things you weren't
clear on. Go back and listen to them. I encourage you to do that. Alright so the rest of this
module is just hypnosis. I'm Doctor Steve G. Jones, hoping you have an outstanding life.
As you now continue to relax, you imagine yourself walking into a room, and this is a very
special room. You are alone and protected and safe. The floors of this room are wooden and
there is a very large comfortable cushion in the center of the room. You walk over to this
cushion now and you sit down on the cushion. You realize now this room is decorated with
objects which you have chosen, objects which relax you and allow you to focus.
You sit in a meditative position with your legs folded, your wrists resting gently on your knees,
your palms facing upward, your back upright, your chin parallel to the floor, your eyes closed
and you're making the ok sign with each hand so the tip of your right thumb touches the tip of
your right index finger and the tip of your left thumb touches the tip of your left index finger.
You now imagine that directly over your head is a very powerful, cleansing, healing light.
You bring a ray of this light down, down, down to the top of your head where it illuminates
your crown chakra. Your crown chakra gives off a purple light, relaxing you, opening your mind
to the possibility of relaxing even more and the light moves down, down, down through your
body, just a little lower now down to the level of your eyebrows where it illuminates your
brow chakra, giving off a blue light, allowing you to drift and float even deeper now.
Light continues to move down through your body. The healing and powerful cleansing light
moves down to the level of your throat where it illuminates your throat chakra, giving off a
silvery blue light. The light continues to move down now, down, down, down to the level of
your heart, illuminating your heart chakra, opening your heart to the idea of giving and
receiving love and your heart chakra gives off a golden glow and the light moves down, down
just a little lower now.
Down to the level of your solar plexus, where it illuminates your solar plexus chakra, giving off
a red glow, relaxing you even more. As the light continues to move down now, down to the
level of your spleen where it illuminates your spleen chakra, giving off a rainbow of colors. The
light moves down a little lower now, down, down to the base of your spine where it
illuminates your root chakra, giving off a red and orange glow, relaxing you even more as now
all the colors swirl together, allowing you to drift and float and relax.
You now imagine that in your private meditation room there is a stairway leading down. You
very slowly walk over to the stairway and you begin to walk down the steps and as I count
backwards from ten to one you will take each step down, one step for each number. Ten,
taking the first safe and gentle and easy step down. Nine, relaxing ten times more deeply with
each step. Eight, seven, down, down, six, five, down, down.
Four, three, way down now, two. You are relaxed as you go and at the count of the next
number, you will be completely relaxed. Your mind will be completely open and you will be at
the bottom of the stairs.
One. You are safe and protected, protected by the light that is inside you as you drift and float
deeper and deeper. You find it is easy to harness the power of the universal mind to enhance
your mind power and you are becoming more and more relaxed day by day and able to relax
and focus.
You are open to receiving that for which you have asked, and you are very powerful. You are a
very powerful person when you work toward a goal and your conscious and subconscious
mind work together and you are able to relax through meditation, whether listening to this
recording or meditating on your own. You are one with the flow of energy and you have all the
answers that you need within yourself. You are able to relax through meditation.
Relax and focus now and let go of your concerns. Let them go, clearing your mind, letting go of
those things which have happened to you recently, things you need to let go of. Let them go
now, feeling them drift from you, you realize that your mind power increases exponentially
day by day.
Letting go of negativity, letting go of envy, letting go of stress. Breathing in relaxation.
Breathing in abundance. Letting to of negativity and stress. Whatever exists in your thoughts
can manifest in the physical realm through the universal mind breathing in possibility.
Breathing in positive change, positive change. Exhaling stress, just let it go, let it go. You have
access to unlimited creativity and day by day, as you become more relaxed you realize you are
becoming a more and more confident person and you are able to drift and relax easily. You
understand that you are a spiritual being and meditation is easy for you. You keep your
thoughts positive. You can if you choose.
Use the meditation exercise you have done on this recording in your everyday life. You
practice meditation regularly to connect with yourself and the universal mind. Perhaps you
can develop an exercise routine in which you devote a certain amount of your time during the
day to meditation. Connecting with the universal mind enhances your own mind power. For
right now, just relax and realize how powerful you are.
You are provided with the knowledge necessary to manifest your desires and as you continue
to relax every breath you take is soothing, soothing you. Focus now on your breathing. I
wonder how much attention you have paid to the many different thoughts floating through
your mind. Your mind is so active, even while it relaxes.
Then you can become aware of how difficult it is to remember what I was talking about
exactly seven minutes ago and you can try to remember what I was saying nine minutes ago or
what you were thinking four minutes ago.
Doesn't it seem like too much work to try to remember all of that. It takes more effort than it's
worth, so relax. Relax comfortably and understand that you don't have to remember what I
was saying when it's too much work to do. You can choose to remember to forget what I said
or to forget to remember what I said. The choice is yours.
Alright now, if you should be listening to this recording at night, you will fall into a very deep
and peaceful sleep and while you're asleep and dreaming understand that your subconscious
mind will be processing every word I have said and each time you hear these words, these
suggestions become more and more powerful for you. Each and every time you listen to these
words, these suggestions become more and more a part of your being.
Each and every time you listen to this recording, you become more and more the person of
your choosing – a relaxed, comfortable, confident person and that feels wonderful. When you
awaken in the morning you will be well rested, refreshed, revitalized and ready for a new day
and that feels wonderful.
