Why Is Mindset Important?
Thoughts
Beliefs

Actions
•By analysis is an anti-pattern, the state of overanalyzing (or overthinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome. A decision can be treated as overcomplicated with too many detailed options so that a choice is never made rather than trying something and changing if a major problem arises. A person might be seeking the optimal or “perfect” solution up front and fear making any decision that could lead to erroneous results while on the way to a better solution. (Wiki)

Support
What does ‘real’ support look like?
Ever shared your dreams, hopes, goals and heard:
Non-Support
“You can’t do that”
“What makes you think you can do _______?”
Watch out for Haters!
The closer people are to you, the longer they have known you…
Support Proximity
Alan &
Peter Lets try my T-shirt idea. What can be worse! Lets be confident and try! I hope it
will work out.
Be careful, Especially at first,
Who you share with
Don’t assume others will want you to succeed
Find the RIGHT support!
Support
Should
Won’t ever get banned
Obligation
Guilt Negative
Yes everyone uses it…
Worst….Word….Ever!!
“You should go to college”
“You should clean your room”
“You should read a book instead of watching TV”
“You should take the dog for a walk”
“You should go outside and do something fun instead of sitting there playing video games. It’s a nice day outside!”
Should
You should eat better.
You should exercise.
You should read more self-help books.
You should read the Bible every day.
You should visit your parents/grandparents/family.
Should Sucks
Use language driven by your BIG WHY
Turn Should into Want
“I should eat healthier and exercise” (said while putting another donut into your mouth)
“I want to eat healthy and exercise so that I can be there for my family and watch my kids grow up.” Or (expert level) “I will eat healthy and exercise so that I can be an example of a healthy lifestyle to my family and others.”
Social Pressure
Fears
Doubts
Why Do We Should On Ourselves?
Instead…use language that is supportive of your BIG WHY
Don’t ‘should’ on other people either!
No such thing as a permanent, perfect mindset
Action Time
Admit you have a
(negative/mediocre mindset)
problem
Action Step: #1
Identify Fears & Doubts
Action Step: #2

Action Step: #5 Must have both parts of the
formula!

Find A Mindset Accountability Partner
Here are some basic steps to
help you develop this habit:
• Stop what you are doing and/or thinking about • Ask yourself questions like these: • “Is what I am doing right now the best thing for me to do?” • “Why am I doing this if it’s not getting me where I want to be?”
• Take time out to identify mindset issue – journaling, meditating, going for a walk – whatever will help you dive into what you are thinking and where it came from (just make sure that this task isn’t one of your procrastination symptoms)
