Goals for 2014
• Continue to provide the students with challenging, engaging and exciting educational learning experiences.
• Ensure we are providing the necessary support for the students to progress and achieve

P.E-WILL NEED TO BE COVERED ONCE PER WEEK. THIS WILL EITHER BE CRT OR ROTATED AROUND THE CORE TEACHING BLOCKS ONCE PER WEEK.SPELLING-THREE TIMES PER WEEK FOR 10 MINUTESTHE KOHI WAY- FIRST MONDAY OF EVERY TERM FOR 30 MINUTES THEN ONCE A WEEK FOR 10 MINUTES. TE REO- AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK

• Term 1: Communication: Social Sciences: Formal groups and how you communicate.
• Term 2: Communication: Life processes-recognise that there are life processes common to all living things and that these occur in different ways.

• School wide assessments 2-3 times a year- Probe reading / Number Knowledge tests IKAN/ Gloss Math's – 2 times a year / Personal Experience Writing –twice a year

• These will be happening this year- Math’s intervention and Literacy interventions will start week 2.

Homework • Year 7: 45 minutes Year 8: 50 minutes

• This daily time is expected to include the following:
• Year 6, 7, 8
• Spelling: At least 5 minutes practising their weekly spelling words either by being tested, writing the words out or by completing a short
activity
• Reading: At least 15 minutes independent reading or reading to someone. Year 6- to write comments each night in their reading log.
• Year 7/8- to record books read in a chart in their homework book.
• Mathematics: At least 10 minutes on Mathletics

Specialisation
• Been a Snell team programme since 2008
• There are 5 cycles throughout the year including blocks for the production.
• Happens in 4 week blocks happens 2 x per week on Tuesday & Thursdays.
• At the beginning of each cycle a blurb will go home.
• Year 6: Robotics, elite P.E, Visual Arts, Productions & Processes and Media Studies
• Year 7 & 8 Careers, Food Technology, structures and Mechanisms, Visual Arts and Mandarin.
• Everyone: Performing Arts- During term 3 when the production is on.
Communication / Parent involvement
• When it’s a good time to meet- after school is usually best (Wednesdays/Thursdays)
• Class blog-Friday-Sunday
• Newsletters (Tuesdays) / email mainly for information / major issues to be sorted by phone or in person
• School works on a policy of ‘no surprises’ so parents will be told early if there are any concerns with behaviour or learning.

• Yr. 7- Mountain biking / Tree Adventures / different activities from Year 6

• 1 week’s excursion to Tongariro National Park
• Cost – Year 8 – 480-$500
Absentees
• Being onto time to school is really important otherwise marked Late on the electronic roll
• Please remember to the inform office when going away so it can be signed off by the Principal so the absentee is recorded correctly
• If you are going away on holiday please send me/Diane Manners a email/Letter stating when and where you will be going and for how long.
Other Information
• Uniform- wearing black shoes, P.E gear
• Cell Phones- All students must have permission from Diane Manners
