the ‘Silicon Fen’ near Cambridge, we’re proud to be part of the Cambridge technology scene.
About Softwerx
Headquartered in Cambridge, we have an office in
London an a total of approximately 25 employees. The
company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Clearsprings
Management Group (circa £50m business). Company
growing at approximately 20% per annum across past
three years. Our vision is to grow the business to £10m
within five years.
Our culture is dynamic, supportive, challenging, friendly
and rewarding. We’re very familiar with Apprenticeship
model. We have employed a number of Apprentices
over the past 5 to 10 years- some now holding senior
positions within the company.

Q- What interested you about the Softwerx Apprenticeship initially?
Q- How has your role and responsibilities grown and changed over the years?
I already had an interest in the IT
sector from school. After touching on
IT whilst studying Business Studies
at West Suffolk college and working
part time at Currys PC World, I felt
myself gravitating towards this sector.
Softwerx was within the perfect
commuting distance, and is easy
to get to (much easier than other
Cambridge business parks).
I have gone from solely being
responsible for logging support
tickets, to managing other
apprentices, to- depending on staff
presence in the office- being the first
responder to new support tickets all
within 3.5 years.
Q- What is your current role now?
I am a Second Line Engineer which
means I deal with more advanced
support and networking issues.
Q- What do like most about working at Softwerx?
The fact that Helpdesk management
respects us and trusts us enough
to manage our own jobs and tickets
is empowering. Also, the flexibility
to be able to get stuck into a wide
varieties of IT Issues is enriching and
rewarding.
Q- How does the apprenticeship compare to alternative options (e.g. university, casual job, etc.)?
It gave me direct experience in the
job which no university degree could
have taught me and so helped me
fast track my career growth.
Q- Looking back, what advice would you give future apprenticees?
Keep a diary of notable information
and for assignments related all
answers back to your workplace
experiences.
