Community&EnvironmentProgrammingElizabethKillingerpresentedanEmeraldAshBorerworkshoptoeighteenparticipantsinClayCounty.Sheprovidedidentificationtips,managementstrategiesandoptionsfortreereplacementformanagingashtrees. NicoleStoner,extensionhorticulturistpresentedonEmeraldAshBorerattheGenevaRuralLivingExpo.RachelandIhadanExtensionBoothteachingyouthandadultsaboutthesoilprofilethroughanedibleaquiferactivity.InadditionExtensionresourcesweregiventoparticipantsand4-Hinformationwasdispersedtothoseinterestedinthe4-Hprogram.Crops - Youth IhadaboothattheClayCounty4-HOpenHouseshowingyouththeendusesofcropsandinvitedthemtoparticipateinthecrops

projectsandupcomingworkshops.TwentyfiveyouthparticipatedanditwasgreatformetocontinuemeetingmoreClayCountyfamilies. 4-H Youth Development ACloverKidCluborganizationalmeetingwasheldatbothClayandFillmoreCounties.ThisisanewprogramIofferedwiththegoaltoprovidesupporttoparentswhoareeithernewtothe4-Hprogramorhavenotbeeninvolvedin4-Hforyears.FourteenyouthandtheirparentsattendedtheFillmoreCountyprogramandfouryouthparticipatedinClayCounty.Atthemeetings,thenewlydesigned4-HHandbookwasgiven,inadditiontoothermeetingdatesandhelpfulmaterialstogetthemstarted.Werecitedthe4-HPledgeandPledgeofAllegianceanddidanactivitywhichgotthemstartedonaexhibittheycanenteratthefair.Inaddition,snackswereprovidedandparentssigneduptoassistwithfuturemeetings. ImetwithMariaWalker,SoutheastDistrict4-HCoordinatortodiscusscurrentandfutureprogramminginyouthdevelopment.Wehadtheopportunitytobrainstormonfutureprogramsandwaystocontinuereachingouttodiverseaudiences. ImetwithotherextensioneducatorsfromPolk,York,ButlerandSewardcountiestosetplansinmotionfortheCitizenshipWashingtonFocustripin2018.Fallandspringprogrammingwasoutlined.Statewide Issue Teams STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) Careers AgroupofExtensionstaffcontinuestoplanforthesolareclipseeventthatwilloccuronAugust21,2017.IconnectedwithSaraCooperfromtheNebraskaDepartmentofEducationwhoisinchargeofthesciencestandardsandprofessionaldevelopment.IncollaborationwiththeHastingsMuseum,somegreatlessonplanideashavebeensetwhichourteamwilldevelopandaimtolaunchbyMay1st.Community, Organizational & Professional Development AstudentfromNorthwestMissourishadowedmeforaday;IsharedinformationaboutwhatacareerinExtensionoffersandshehelpedmewithagsafetydaypromotion.News Columns & Blog Posts March1st-InnovativeYouthCornChallenge March8th-ProgramOpportunitiesMarch15th-CloverChase March22nd-TractorSafetyTrainingsMarch29th–EABworkshops
