12/06: John 1:4-5
In this week’s passage, John moves from who Jesus is to why he came.
Light is technically defined as "the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible." In what way is light vital to our everyday lives?
Why do you think that John and many others throughout Scripture use the word “light” to describe Jesus?
What are ways you have experienced Jesus' light in your life?
Read aloud 1 John 1:5-7.
What does it look to be walking in darkness? What is different between walking in darkness, and being a believer who is going through a rough time wrestling with sin?

Father, when I am lonely, help me to remember: YOUR HOPE
Read Psalm 139:12
Loneliness can make us feel very low. Ask God to help you to hold on to the gospel hope – that Jesus, the light of the world, has come and is coming again soon.
TAKING A CLOSER LOOK
1. What are 1-2 things that "shine" from this passage?
Whatever impacts the most or draws attention.
2. What are 1-2 things that are difficult to understand in
the text, or a question that you would like to ask the
writer of the passage or the Lord?
3. What is the central idea of the passage?
4. What are 1-2 personal applications for your own life?
5. With a friend: Find out what is going on in each
other's lives. What has been their greatest joy this
week? Greatest challenge this week and how they've
handled it? What is one area each of you could pray
about for each other as it relates to growing with
your relationship with the Lord, a spouse, child or
friend?
?
Whether you are meeting with someone this week or you are
getting into the Word on your own, we encourage you to work
through these questions as you take a deeper look at the
sermon passage from this week, or as you dig deeper into the
"Read the Bible in Two Years" reading plan that we are currently
working through as a church.
