01/31: John 1:43-51
In this week’s passage, and at the end of one week in this story, we see that Jesus has gathered a group of disciples that began with the simple statement from John the Baptist about Jesus being the Lamb of God. What were the circumstances around how Jesus called you to follow Him? Was it direct, through preaching, through a friend, or through some other encounter? What would you tell others about what God can do through the effective witness of one person? Read John 14:6. Jesus being the only way to God can be a big point of contention with many people. Why do you think that is? How does that fact impact the way you treat or speak with those who are not yet following Jesus? Take a moment to pray for your “Circle of Three” – three people with whom you frequently interact, regularly pray for, and who do not know the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to provide you opportunities to effectively witness to them this week.

Father, when I am confused, remind me that your ways are: GENEROUS
Read Isaiah 55:1
In the face of all that we don’t know, it’s wise to keep coming back to what we do: God is good. Thank him for his generosity, demonstrated most clearly in the gift of his Son, who declared, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink” (John 7:37. Praise him!
TAKING A CLOSER LOOK

Whatever impacts the most or draws attention.
2. What are 1-2 things that are difficult to understand in
the text, or a question that you would like to ask the
writer of the passage or the Lord?
3. What is the central idea of the passage?
4. What are 1-2 personal applications for your own life?
5. With a friend: Find out what is going on in each
other's lives. What has been their greatest joy this
week? Greatest challenge this week and how they've
handled it? What is one area each of you could pray
about for each other as it relates to growing with
your relationship with the Lord, a spouse, child or
friend?
?
Whether you are meeting with someone this week or you are
getting into the Word on your own, we encourage you to work
through these questions as you take a deeper look at the
sermon passage from this week, or as you dig deeper into the
"Read the Bible in Two Years" reading plan that we are currently
working through as a church.

John 1:43-51 (ESV) 43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
