New Community Needs – New Services of Library Branch #3

• By mid-August (start of library work with IDPs) 27 persons, including children, from Luhansk and Donetsk regions moved to Agrarian University dormitory located next to the library.

• Librarians visited the IDPs to find out their immediate needs and offer free services.

1. Organized donations collecting point for IDPs. Library users donate clothes, shoes, food, books, stationery, toys for children etc.

2. Books check-out, reference and information services

IDPs from Donbass reside in Kherson temporarily, nevertheless they can become library patrons and use the services for free

3. Free wi-fi

Free access to library wi-fi. During library work hours users can also charge their devices there. When the library is closed they can use wi-fi outside the building.

4. Internet servicesPossibility to connect with family and friends, chat

online, use social media, email, surf the Internet etc.

5. Watching movies for free on big screen

Movie show times are announced at the library and via theme groups in social media

6. Relaxing at the library and “library nanny” services.While parents are working or looking for a job, their children can spend leisure time at the library, play, read, watch cartoons etc.

Library Cooperation Projects Aimed at Helping IDPs

To provide help more effectively, the library actively cooperates with social media group «Біженці в Херсоні ***2014***» (IDPs in Kherson 2014)and “Sofia” charity foundation.

• In a while IPDs from other Kherson areas started using the new library services.

• The number of items donated by library patrons to IDPs also grows.
