Claude Levi-Strauss
His Theory• Narratives are arranged around the conflict of binary opposites
• Examples:
• Good VS Evil Boy VS Girl • Peace VS War Man VS Woman • Humanity VS Technology Young VS Old
Tzventan Todorov • The idea that plot lines follow the same pattern or path
• Example would be the ‘Hunger Games’
1) Equilibrium• It displays the character(s) as happy and content.• Living her normal, everyday life.
2) A disruption • Features a problem that disrupts the happiness.• Katniss’s sister is chosen to participate in the Hunger Games and Katniss
volunteers as tribute, makes the ultimate sacrifice. • Has to say goodbye to friends and family knowing she may never see them
again.
3) Realization • The problem is realized and everything turns to chaos. • Katniss enters the games.
4) Restored Order• The character(s) attempts to repair the damage, wants to restore the
problem. • The death of Rue makes Katniss want to win the games more.
5) Equilibrium again• Normality resumes.• Peeta and Katniss win the games
