Tamaqua Has Heart Auction and Gala On Thursday, Sept. 28, the Tamaqua Community Art Center will showcase “The Heart Of The Community” project’s

hearts for auction and bidding. LCCC’s sponsored heart was designed by LCCC assistant professor of nursing Karen Clark and her sister, Kimberlee, who teaches visual arts at Panther Valley Junior and Senior High Schools. The design adheres to an educational theme that reflects the mission and vision of LCCC, the two women’s professions as educators and the legacy of their father, the late Dr. Robert A. Arner, who was a dentist in Summit Hill, Carbon County and the Panther Valley schools. Dr. Arner served on the Panther Valley School Board and the LCCC Board of Trustees.

The preview and registration for the event begins at 6 p.m., with the auction starting at 7 p.m. at Scheid’s Building, 24 W. Broad St. in downtown Tamaqua. Tickets are available at https://tamaquaarts.thundertix.com.

Hockey Pre-Season Game to Raise Scholarship Funds

LCCC is teaming up with Penn State-Lehigh Valley for a Collective Impact Scholarship fundraising event at the Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders hockey pre-season exhibition game. Ticket-buyers have two options for the event on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7:05 p.m. at the PPL Center in downtown Allentown:

- A limited number of tickets are available for $43 per ticket, an $8 discount.

- The Exclusive Suite Experience, at $100 per ticket, includes special suite seating, food and soft drinks. Guests will also be entered into a raffle to win a one-of-a-kind experience at the game, watching warm-ups from the bench, riding the Fanboni and dropping the game puck.

Annual Foundation Scholarship Golf Classic and Dinner Reception Rescheduled

LCCC’s Foundation has rescheduled its 24th annual golf classic at Lehigh Country Club in Allentown for Monday, Sept. 25. The event, originally scheduled for Aug. 7, was postponed due to inclement weather. This year’s honorary chairs are the Rothrock Family, in memory of the late Bruce L. Rothrock, Sr. All proceeds will benefit the Bruce L. Rothrock Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund this year.

Golfers and teams can still register for the rescheduled tournament through Monday, Sept. 18. Registration fee is $350 for an individual golfer, which includes green fees, cart, box lunch, dinner and promotional gift for every golfer. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 25. Golfers will play a

scramble format with a shotgun start at noon and conclude with an evening dinner reception and awards.The dinner reception will begin at 5 p.m. with an elegant menu to include an iced seafood table, prime rib beef, chicken

piccata and salmon. For those interested in attending dinner only, the cost is $100 per person, and reservations must be made by Monday, Sept. 18.

Sponsorships, advertising opportunities and raffle item donations are still being accepted through Sept. 15. Raffle tickets for a one-week stay at a beautiful vacation home in Pinehurst, NC, providing unlimited access to courses 1-6 including the famous #2 course, are still available and can be purchased in the college’s Foundation Office or College Relations office at main campus.

New Recognition Program Launched

The Innovative Teaching Practices committee together with the iCARE team have launched a program aimed at recognizing

the classroom and academic-related achievements of faculty, staff and students.

The recognition program can be facilitated from any one of several different perspectives:

LCCC Will Kick Off New Emerging Leader Program

LCCC’s new Emerging Leader Program is a professional development opportunity that addresses the knowledge, skills and ability to support succession planning at the college. The program will take place during the upcoming academic year and will provide practical concepts that participants can apply to their daily work.

The eight-month program will be held for a half-day, one Friday per month, and will cover the following topics: Role of the Leader, Personal Leadership, Delivering Results at the Leadership Level, Managing Performance, Leading Your Team to Excellence, Effective Communication for Leaders, Resolving Conflict and Execution.

New Employee Orientation“Learning LCCC” is a new, year-long employee

Honors Scholars Induction CeremonyForty new students participated in the Honors Scholars Induction Ceremony on Aug. 14. This entering class joins

a community of more than 200 Honors Scholars who have taken their education around the globe in a multitude of professions. The keynote speaker was Rick Peifly, ‘06, the first graduate of the LCCC Honors Scholars program. Rick, who holds a BS and MS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, is an engineering manager for the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, where he leads a team of engineers designing equipment to support the U.S. Navy in Pittsburgh.

President Dr. Ann Bieber welcomed and congratulated the students. Also participating were faculty members Christine Bowditch, Creed Hyatt, Maureen Maikner, Ginny Mihalik, Holly Morris, Jennifer Myskowski, Rachel Plaksa and Susan Fread. Each new scholar received a special Honors Scholars pin from a returning second-year scholar during the ceremony in front of a full house of family and friends.

Lehigh Valley Business Profiles Mobile Manufacturing Lab

LCCC launched a program on-site at ATAS International, Inc., on Snowdrift Lane, Allentown, on Aug. 15 using its new Mobile Manufacturing Lab. Students can take classes in electrical processes, mechanical processes, pneumatics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). At the conclusion of the program, students will receive an industrial automation certificate from LCCC and will be able to move into more advanced positions such as maintenance technicians and industrial automation technicians, as well as supervision and management positions.

The program at ATAS is being offered as a partnership between LCCC and the Manufacturers Resource Center in Allentown to address the pressing need for skilled individuals in the manufacturing trades. Future uses of the mobile lab include use as outreach tool for promoting manufacturing careers. The unit can also be taken directly to companies in locations where sending students to campus would be burdensome.
