Learning Project WEEK 4 – Science 27.4.20
Year 4
Maths Tasks Reading Tasks
Rolling maths activities:
Times Table Rockstars , try Soundcheck
regularly.
● Alternatively, pick a times table to practise and
roll a dice (or two!) to decide what to multiply it
by.
● Hit the Button - focus on number bonds,
halves, doubles and times tables.
● Practise telling the
time. Can you convert
analogue to digital
time?
New activities:
● Get a piece of paper and show everything you
know about Division. This could be pictures,
diagrams, explanations, methods etc. You can
be as creative as you want to be.
● Grab a handful of small objects (lego, beads,
buttons, smarties). Is your original number
divisible by 4, 6 or 8? Are there any
remainders? Can you illustrate this visually?
● Can you add up the items of the weekly
shopping list? How much change would you
get from £100? £250?
● White Rose home learning for Year 4. Summer
week 2 (or dip into any previous lessons)
Watch the video clips and read the sheet. (You
don’t need to print anything off, but you can if
you wish).

● BBC Bitesize daily lessons:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons
● How close are you to completing your
Bronze/Silver reading challenge? Can you
complete it this week?
● Build a reading den and choose a more
challenging book with an adult to read at
bedtime. Can you read a page each?
● Read a book/text of your choice
independently (magazine, chapter book,
non-fiction, poetry, newspaper etc.).
● Jot down 5 exciting green words from the
text you are reading.
● Can you find any synonyms or antonyms
for your chosen words? Use a dictionary,
thesaurus, or dictionary.com or
vocabulary.com to help.
● Read aloud (to sibling, pet, adult) with
expression.
● Jot down a summary/share with an adult
over a mealtime what has happened in the
story/text you are reading. Can you answer
questions about what you have read?
● Log into Bug Club and read one of the
books set and answer any questions (bug
icons).

Spelling and Grammar Tasks Writing Tasks
Spell words where the sh sound is spelt ch (French
origin)
Practise spelling the words using any of our spelling
games; pyramid write, rainbow write, boxing around
letters, missing vowels, opposite hand etc.
Practise writing your spellings in sentences (writing
task). This is an opportunity to take your time and
practise neat, cursive handwriting
Choose at least 3 of the words. Create a Frayer
Model to explore the word. Remember to create a
definition that you will understand for words you
find tricky to explain. Non-examples can be the
opposite or something unrelated! Look up words
you are unsure of https://www.vocabulary.com/
Frayer Model
Write an email to a family member telling
them all about how your week has been.
● Design an information leaflet about an
animal/animals of your choice. Remember
to use headings and subheadings. You
could create a leaflet about a real or
fictitious zoo.
● Write a description of a fictional animal
that has just been discovered. Think about
what it looks like, where it lives and what it
eats. Draw a picture to show what this new
creature is like.
● Write a set of instructions for how to look
after a pet. Remember to include what you
need and what you do. This could be for a
real pet or a pet of your own imagination.
Can you add a rhetorical question?
● Can you write a kenning or haiku poem
about a favourite animal?

Science
We have signed up to ‘Developing experts’. You will have access to a lesson and activities per day for 6 days from 27.4.20. If we had been at school we would have covered similar objectives. You should have received an email with your child’s individual login for the site. The lesson headings are as follows:
If you are finding it difficult to access these lessons here are some other ideas for things to do at home as well or instead. DIGESTION Watch or carry out the digestive system experiment below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7av19YhNkhE This is another brilliant clip about How the Digestive system works – one of our favourites!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwrsL-lCZYo Can you draw an outline of the human body (you could even draw round a grown up) and draw the organs involved in the digestive system? Can you write down their functions? TEETH A teeth song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DstSL3I--9I Explore the function of the teeth using this clip. Can you use a mirror to spot the types of teeth in your mouth?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zsp76yc#z99vrwx Tooth Decay Experiment
Have a go at organising your own experiment about tooth decay. Use eggshells to represent teeth and place them in cups with different drinks. What do you predict will happen to the eggshells after a week? Can you carry out a fair test?
Themed Learning – Animals If you have any other time you may like to try some of these, please remember we are not
expecting you to do everything – we’d rather give lots of choice of what may appeal to your
child
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about key
animals they are interested in. Learning may focus on exploring the physical aspects of an
animal, their habitat, categorising animals etc.
● Let’s Wonder:
Create fact files about deadly predators. Draw pictures of the predators
and label them with information you find out. Where does the predator live? Why does it
live there? What does it eat? How does it capture its prey? What special qualities do these
predators have? Make a food chain to demonstrate why a predator is at the top of the chain.
You could make a set of top trump cards using the information you found out.
● Let’s Create: Explore the artist Franz Marc. Find out who he was and what type of artist
he was. What did he like to create pictures? Look at some of his paintings
online. Then choose an animal to draw and add colour to, in a similar style
to his. What do you think of his paintings? Do you like your finished piece of artwork?
Why?/Why not?
● Be Active: Get out into the garden and make a bug hotel. Go on a mini beast hunt and record
what you find. If you find any minibeasts you haven’t seen before you could
always look them up online. What can you find out about these amazing
creatures?
Recommendation at least 2 hours of exercise a week.
● Time to Talk:
Find out which animals are your family members' favourites and why.
Have a family debate about whether zoos should exist? Discuss whether you
agree/disagree and why? Do your family members have a different opinion
to you? Why not debate whether animals should be kept as pets?
● Understanding Others and Appreciating Differences: Which are considered to be Sacred Animals around the world
and why? Who admires cows? Lions? Wolves? Which animals
were important to the Egyptians and why?
