1. Feature Description, lntegrity, El igibility:The feature is a large one room prairie school sitting on a foundation of concrete blocks on a concreteslab. The school was moved into Medina in 1988 as a centennial project to create a museum. Thescfrool came from St- PaulTownship, southeast of Medina, where the building was being used as atownhall. The hip roof of the school is finished with wood shakes. There is metal capping at the peakalong with finials as well as metal capping on allthe hips. The sofiits are closed with beadboard. Thebuilding measures 20 feet north to south and 34 feet east to west with a 12toot by 4 foot addition onthe north skle. There is a portico at the front enfy porch, this is overed with asphalt shingles. A large,concreb blockchimney is on thewest slope of the roof of the scfiml.
A frieze board runs under the eaves on all four sides of the school. The nicely painted siding is 4 inchwood lap with metal @mer trim. At the bottom of the siding is skirting board with water board. Thereis a wood porch under the portico on the south side that leads to a 5 panel wood door- 5 largemultipane, double hung windorrs face south, all glass intad. 5 double hung, vnaller multipanewindows face west. There is one smallwindow and a double hung, multipane window in the northaddition. The school was locked. ln visiting with a person connected to the school I learned that theinterior walls and ceiling are finished with lathe and plaster. The floor is tongue and groove hardwood.There are blackboards on the north wall, east of the library enfy, and entire south wall. There iselectrity in the buiHing bday. There is a coat room imrnediafly inside the scfrool, to the left- Two rnorerooms are also located along this west wall. Today they have museum artifacts, in the past they wereperhaps bathrooms.
