DESCRIPTION/INTEGRITY/ELIGIBILITY
This is a re-survey o f a site previously surveyed in 1996, Sunny Slope School. The findings in the current survey largely were very similar to those o f the previous survey, except that based on our examination o f the schoolhouse, we believe it should be assigned a feature date of 4 rather than 5, as it appears to date from about 1920. This is a wood frame building on a foundation of poured concrete. Its exterior is horizontal wood siding. Its hip roof has been covered with asphalt shingles. It has four tall, double-hung windows on the south wall and three tall, double-hung windows on the east wall. These are in fair condition. An addition to the original building is a shed-roofed extension on the west side of the building. This has a stucco exterior. It has a door opening south onto wooden steps, and this is the main entry to the school. Inside, a clue to the earlier-than-suspected feature date of the building is the stamped metal ceiling now visible under the drop ceiling that is collapsing.
This schoolhouse lacks associations or distinction sufficient for National Register consideration.

Description/Maps & Photo Field Code: MAC-RE-L7 Page 2
The Sunny Slope schoolhouse is a roughly square building with horizontal wood siding, a poured concrete foundation/basement, an asphalt shingle roof and a cement block chimney. A porch, possibly a later addition, has been built onto the eastern side of the building. The interior of the building is plaster over lathe. The school was retrofitted within the past circa thirty years, and where the recent acoustic ceiling tiles have fallen, one can see the original pressed tin ceiling. Both the main floor and the basement are filled with modern refuse. Integrity is fair. Schoolhouses such as these are common throughout rural North Dakota, and this one is in no way distinctive. In any event, when the telephone cable for which this was recorded is installed, it will not be impacting standing structures.
