Canada’s Landform Regions

The geologic evolution of Canada took place over millions of years and was marked by specific events across Canada. These events left unique landform regions that still exist today

Lets take a look…………..

Landforms – Canadian Shield

Between 4-1 billion years oldEroded roots of ancient mountains, appear now

as rolling hills of exposed rock.

Landforms – Appalachian Mountains

+300 million years old Eroded greatly forming large rolling hills.

Landforms – Great Lakes /St Lawrence Lowlands

Flat, low lying area created when land slipped between two faults.

Landforms – Arctic/ Hudson Bay Lowlands

Flat low-lying land in the arctic.

Composed of a layer of sedimentary rock resting on ancient rock of the Canadian shield.

Landforms – Interior Plains

Extremely flat region of central Canada Shallow inland seas created sedimentary rock by

compressing sediments over millions of years.

Landforms – Innuitian Mountains

Younger than the Appalachians. Located in the northern tip of Canada.

Created when North American plate moved northward

Landforms – Western Cordillera

Geologically young mountains with sharp peaks that have yet to be eroded. Created by the collision of the Pacific and North American Plates

Can you see the layers?
