KITCHEN ISLAND DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND INSTALLATIONPortfolio for Stanley T Sutton

This project was for Wood B65B Advanced Cabinet course at Bakersfield College, Spring 2010.

The design and sizing was for my kitchen remodel at home.

Due to entry door sizes, it was designed in two parts to allow passage into the house for final assembly.

My Learning Process

•Professor Hageman provided me with the education, training, and guidance necessary for me to achieve my Kitchen Island Cabinet, always with safety in mind.

• I have designed, manufactured, and assembled this Island with quality techniques learned.

• I would equate what I have learned and done as a real life, on-the-job experience, in a classroom environment.

The Design Phase•I drew up rough sketches of my design

with a clean “Mission” look, but with a rustic Alder wood.

•Then translated the sketches into detailed drawings with sizes and joinery corresponding to my needs.

•Finally transformed the sketches and drawings into a story pole, providing me with exact dimensional size and fit of the

kitchen island into my home.
