There is a place for you. A church is not just a build-
ing, but it is the people of the congregation. Please

If you believe God is calling you to join our church as
your place of worship and service, please see Reverend
Halley after worship service on Sunday or give him a
call during the week. The office number is (757)

We welcome you!
July Patriotic
Cookout Planned
for Saints Alive Tuesday, July 21, at 1:00 pm will be a
special day for Saints Alive. Invite a
friend and come and join us for a patriotic celebration and cookout.
Rev. Halley will fire up the grill on the north lawn and cook hotdogs. It is more than
likely going to be a really hot day outside but don’t worry about being too warm because the food will be eaten inside where it will be nice and cool. The only person
who will be outside will be our cook. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided but we are
asking that you bring your favorite side dish to share with others.
Saints Alive is a fun group who loves to eat, fellowship with one another, and play
games. They meet each Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Saints
Alive Center. On the third Tuesday of each month, the group meets at 1:00 p.m. for a potluck lunch. Come and join us for a fun filled three hours.
Friday Night Book Club
The Friday Night Book Club along with Josh and
Jennifer Worrell invite you to attend an informa-
tional meeting social to receive information on our twice a month book club and to discuss the for-
mation of a once a month parent group. Children
are welcome to attend. Friday, July 10th at 6:30
pm at the home of Josh and Jennifer Worrell, 5925 Trumpet Drive, Suffolk. Please RSVP to
Jennifer Worrell at 636-0945.
My Dear Friends,
As you are very much aware, our deacons are
making 2015 a year of
prayer at our church. One
of our Core Values is We are Committed to Prayer.
Each board and committee
meeting begins with prayer and we meet together
monthly in The Praying
Church, at which time we read aloud and pray for
every person on our printed
prayer list (which is eighty
people!).
In studying prayer I discovered an ancient prayer
practice which comes from the Roman Catholic Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). It is called "Examen", a
word which means simply to examine. The Examen is
a method of reviewing the day in the presence of God. Rather than a set prayer, The Examen is more an
attitude of prayer. There are five steps, which may be
taken in any order:
First, ask God for Light. Pray: "I want to look at my
day with God’s eyes, and not merely my own."
Second, give thanks. Pray: "The day I have just lived
is a gift from God, and I am very grateful for it."
Third, review the day. Pray, "O Holy Spirit, help me look back over this day under your helpful guidance."
Fourth, face your shortcomings. Pray, "O God, help me to face up to what is wrong . . . in my life and in
me."
Fifth, look toward the day to come. Pray, "Heavenly
Father, help me tomorrow to be aware of all the ways
I need You to be in my life."
And, of course, all our prayers are made in the name
of our Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen!
Love,
Michael
