Watch the clip and think about how you would define the term
‘love’.
Love is…
What do you love?
Draw a heart in your books and write inside it all of the things you love in life.
Do we love things in the same way?
Different Types of Love
Eros
Romantic love, e.g. boyfriend/girlfriend.
Philia
Love for friends and family.
Storge
Love for objects.
Agape
Compassionate/ selfless love.
Now go back and colour code the
things you love with the different types
of love.
Agape Love
Keyword: Agape
Showing compassionate and selfless love to someone. Showing compassion is about wanting to remove someone’s
suffering, even a total stranger. You expect nothing in return.

Some people didn’t understand what Jesus
meant by agape love. So, Jesus taught his followers by telling them the Parable of the Good Samaritan to help
them understand.
Agape Love
What did Jesus mean when he said:
‘Love your neighbour as yourself’
What type of love is Jesus referring to?
Who showed agape love in the parable?

How confident out of 5 do you
feel in explaining agape love and
the parable?
Jesus’ Teaching in the Modern Day
Jesus taught his commandment of ‘love your neighbour as yourself’ 2000 years ago, so how is it still being used in
the modern day?
Each group is going to be given a modern day Good Samaritan story.
You need to read through your story as a group and be ready to
summarise your story and explain how it is an example of agape love.
Rainbow Groups
Each person in your group is now going to be given a different colour
card.
You now need to join up with all of the people in the room who have
the same colour card as you.
You will then feedback your story to your new group – remember they won’t have heard your story yet so your explanations need to be clear!
Rainbow Groups
Now you have heard all of the stories, discuss as
a group which one in your favourite and why.
Reflection Time
Whatever our own personal beliefs we can all try to be more compassionate in our daily lives.
Watch the trailer for the film ‘Pay it Forward’.

Reflection Time
On your post it note, write down three things you are going to try to do more often to show kindness and compassion to the
people around you.
Put your post it note in your planner or pencil case to keep reminding yourself.
We will be feeding back your progress next lesson!
